Singh Is King (2008)

Pure unadulterated fun !!
7 August 2008
Just came back from preview screening of this movie. Its a Hilarious Comedy, we were literally in fits due to laughter. Akshay Kumar steals the show, nothing unexpected. But from the time he makes an entry, you know this is going to be one roller coaster ride. And he is supported very well by rest of the cast, however Katrina Kaif is there doing what she does the best, look good. She has nothing much to do in the movie. But I feel that this could have been a much better movie, the title of the movie had lot more potential, however I was not expecting much from Anees Bazmee. But yes, if you love Akshay Kumar, and do not might couple of hours of side splitting comedy, then go for it..

Whats all the hoopla About
2 October 2007
Even though I am not a big fan of comic book adaptations, and I avoided to be taken in by the release of this movie for first few weeks, however later I decided to check it out, it had amazing ratings on IMDb and most of the times they are very accurate.

But I must tell you that I am not an American and hadn't heard about any comics that went by "Transformers" it was totally a new concept for me. And was I disappointed !! I simply failed to make any sense of the movie, then I thought it might a no brainer and decided to concentrate on action sequences and special effects, however I was not able to understand what exactly was happening. My mind simply went numb. The robots were so complicated in design that I was not able to make what they were trying to do. The scenes seemed to be too much crowded and complicated, it was difficult to comprehend who was doing what.

Maybe this movie is working because of the fans that it got from the comics and earlier adaptation, otherwise I don't see any other reason for it to be just any other movie on the block.

So for the sake for Die-hard fans, I sincerely hope that producers would put in more effort on story and screenplay rather than special effects, when they come out with the second installment, which I am sure that they will, given all the commercial success this one got.

True Blue Thriller
30 September 2007
There have been very few proper thrillers in Indian film industry, and counting few good ones in them is easy task. However here comes a movie that has the potential to redefine the genre. Most probably this movie will prove to be a dud at Box office, however it will sure go down as a cult for generations to come.

In most of the thrillers that I have seen, I am able to second guess the director on what he is going to show. However this movie is something that didn't let me do that. Even though the pacing seemed to be slow in parts, however it actually was never slow. Every few minutes the events took a dramatic change, and even though you realize that this could have been expected, however it was not.

This is type of cinema that I prefer to enjoy alone, not with friends Or with family. Simply go into the theater and immerse yourself.

My only regret is the way the music was used. Initially only the title track was released but later there was an elaborate album. And it was one of the best score to hit the shelves in a long time. The album gave an impression that it was not typical Bollywood fare, however would be used in background. It had some excellent themes and instrumental pieces and sometimes it gave an impression if modern day Hollywood themes were inspired from Bollywood of 70's, and one expected those pieces to play a pivotal role to elevate the movie. However they were hardly used in the movie, except for couple of occasions.

Since I have heard the original album, that is the reason my expectations were sky high from the background music and theme music of the music, but still its a rare masterpiece coming out of Bollywood. This one deserves an elaborate DVD version.

***** HIGHLY RECOMMENDED at ANY COST !! *****

Mind Blowing Mahiya !!
9 August 2007
It simply blew my mind off. What was Director thinking while directing this movie ? I am sure he must have shown it to others before it was released, did no one tell him how much he has goofed up.

It could have been an interesting plot, but thanks to direction, editing and screenplay it never blooms properly.

And as couple of posts earlier, the cartoons sucked, not sure what was the team thinking, but cartoons spoiled the show. Whenever it was time for real action, they threw in cartoons and killed the excitement, which anyways was hard to build.

**To be avoided at any cost**

Must Avoid - Unbearable
3 July 2007
Warning: Spoilers
First things first, how can someone with his creativity on the right side believe in a movie like this. I saw this movie and after end of couple of hours was left scratching my head, what exactly is director trying to say.

If its a thriller, there are no thrills, if its action, there is no action barring a chase sequence, there is no Drama, and the much touted love story, it actually never takes off. No passion, emotion nothing is there.

Actually I never expected wonders from the movie, however after the bumper opening it took, I thought of giving it a chance. I have no problems with Himesh Reshamiya whatsoever, and I am not one of the guys who will bash him at every given opportunity. I went in with an Open mind and came out with a closed one.

Let's not put the blame of Himesh Reshamiya, he is just a Debutant Actor. But direction, screenplay, writing, makeup, everything has gone for a toss.

Himesh is very stiff and would take a lot of time to come up the curve. He can do the don kind of roles. Hansika is just a kid, and it shows on screen with her baby fat and the way she walks.

The only actor who was good was the friend of Himesh in the movie, I don't know his name, but he looks promising.

Watch it at your own risk, not even good to watch it for a time pass viewing.

** Strongly recommend to avoid this Movie.**

Return of Brute Force
1 July 2007
I read a lot of awesome reviews about the movie and yesterday saw it in theater. And it made me jump several times in my seat, its so very power packed.

But alas that the movie has been released as PG 13 in US, so they have not used all those F words, which would have increased the impact for a viewer like me.

Its pure brute force, its end of all the terms like Metro sexual and retro sexual, now its again all about being a man, the hardcore way.

A lot has been written by other users, so there is not much to mention, but its action the good old fashioned way.

I would have given it 10 points, but for 1 over the top sequence involving a fighter plain.

Mahabharat (1988–1990)
10/10
The biggest epic the world has seen.
26 June 2007
I was too young at that time. Around 6-7 years. Live in a joint family of 7-8 people and shared a single TV at home.

I still remember 9 am on Sunday morning, it was a time when India became lifeless and explored its very own roots.

Mahabharata has always been the largest epic in the world. Converting the same into TV serial would have been some task and congratulations to Chopra's for doing such a wonderful job.

The other day I saw all three parts (extended editions) of Lord of the Rings Trilogy and thought how complicated it was. But when I actually started to compare it with Mahabharata I realized how simple LOTR was, how many complex characters, scenarios, emotions were portrayed in Mahabharata.

In fact the actors who portrayed those parts did such a wonderful job, and were so much convincing in their roles, that they were etched in public memory, that barring one or two, none of them have been successful in other ventures on Screen.

I must have watched it numerous times and end up enjoying the same every single time.

There are no words enough to describe the epic, but as someone else said earlier, make sure you watch it before you die, it will change your life.

Oh My My !!
26 April 2007
This is a movies which I have watched around 15-20 times in full and at least 50 times only the climax.

It has one of the best climax scenes I have ever scene, I cannot comment on the technical aspects, but every time you see it, there is a energy that pumps you up.

This is a movie that starred not so famous (at that time) Aamir Khan, he shows amply why he among the finest actors in the world.

So the bottom-line is its a must watch movie for all just for the spirit and joy it brings to your life !!

** Its not a Urdu Movie as mentioned on IMDb its a Hindi movie **
