Insanity ensues
27 April 2022
Hotel Poseidon seems almost like a theatre stage play - a movie focused on actors performing in the most grotesque ways. The film perfects the art of creating surroundings and people so ugly that it in turn they almost become beautiful.

As the story turns more and more into chaos by the midpoint, similar to mother! - it than goes into a completely different direction, creating a vivarium until finally ending in a punch line.

The longest and most obscure joke ever told.

A mixed bag
26 April 2022
"The Seed" has some genuine interesting moments of body horror and sexuality mixed into a very bland and uneventful story. Great effects though and some nice visual moments, but all in all thus could have been better.

R Rated Kids Fun
22 March 2022
Steven Kostanski offers up a hilarious, raunchy and gory good time. While some of the budget limitations become apparent at times, the film still boasts great practical effects and classic one liners.

A bloody good time for the whole family (if you don't let your kids watch this).

Unhinged
15 November 2021
Jim Cummings latest entry in the "frail masculine protagonist thrown into a situation where he has no control and starts to get more unhinged" has all the same strong points and flaws as his first two features.

It's definitely fun to watch him on screen as he is a solid actor that delivers a great and funny performance.

The plot unfortunately is a bit all over the place, which makes it hard to find a deeper meaning behind all the chaos.

Genre mixed with social commentary
5 September 2021
While not in the least subtle with it's message, The Platform is a well staged, disturbing and dark allegory that manages to shock it's viewers while retaining a clear cinematic vision.

A psychedelic gothic experience with a deeper meaning
5 September 2021
While I was expecting a somewhat decent homage to gothic horror of the 70s, Dawn Breaks Behind the Eyes goes much deeper.

Now, don't get me wrong - the film is a loving tribute to Euro horror of the 60s and 70s and especially fans of Bava and Rollin will be sure to have a great time - but I was particularly impressed by the shift (both narratively and in tone) the story takes around the halfway mark.

Without spoiling anything, I can say that the story evolves and morphs into something much more profound and thought provoking than it first appears - resulting in a unique cinema experience that is as visually captivating as it is clever.

Move away, nothing to see here
5 September 2021
While James Wan's Malignant is competently made on a technical level, it sadly offers not much new or innovative, instead focusing on a somewhat interesting story with a very bland execution - ultimately feeling empty and soulless.
