Ocean's Eleven (2001)
Good Vegas Fun
Ocean's Eleven had a really cool feeling to it- a cool cast, a cool premise, and it was based in Las Vegas - what more could you ask for? George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Matt Damon made it easy for me to keep my eyes on the screen (I would love any movie that had those three in it, no matter what the plot was). One thing I didn't notice until the second time I watched it was that Brad Pitt is always eating something in every scene! Casey Affleck and Scott Caan were hilarious in their roles as the brothers from Utah - they reminded me of my brothers. I was also impressed by both Elliott Gould's and Carl Reiner's performances in their roles. It was a nice change to see Elliott Gould in a more intelligent role than the one he has on Friends. Even though I hate to see Andy Garcia as a villain, I think he did an excellent job - his character was easy to hate. I always enjoy Julia Roberts, however I was a bit disappointed by her awkward performance in this movie. It seemed like she was just there to deliver lines - I don't think she really got into the role. Another thing - someone needs to teach her to walk like a lady! That being said, I still thoroughly enjoyed this movie and I would give it 9.5/10
Jurassic Park III (2001)
Just OK
I was disappointed by this movie - I felt the plot was too predictable, and the ending was too abrupt. There weren't enough 'jump' scenes, and the best one was shown in the TV spots, which really ruined it in the theater. This movie as well as the second Jurassic Park movie proves that a sequel is almost never as good as the original. I honestly think it could have been somewhat believable had Steven Spielberg directed it. Steven Spielberg movies are never as good when someone else directs them (anyone remember Jaws 2, 3 and 4?).
Joe Versus the Volcano (1990)
disappointing
I was extremely disappointed with this movie - I have been watching trailers for it since it first came out, but I never got a chance to see it until last year. I was disappointed by the length of the dark dismal part of it - it just dragged on and on! The trailers showed only the scenes on the island, therefore I was expecting it to be upbeat and lighthearted. I came away from it feeling depressed, I felt like the ending was far too abrupt. The only part I enjoyed was the fact that Meg Ryan played 3 different characters, all of which she did an excellent job of (my favorite was the "flibbertyjibbet").
Surviving Gilligan's Island: The Incredibly True Story of the Longest Three Hour Tour in History (2001)
very entertaining, even though I'm not old enough for the show
Gilligan's Island was on the air about 20 years before I was born. I only ever watched the show on reruns, and even then I wasn't old enough to appreciate it. But after watching this special, I found myself wishing that I could watch the show on SuperStation once again. At the end of the special I was wishing that it wasn't over, that I had taped it so that I could show my friends and family. It was a really fun special, and I just had to watch it, even though it was on until midnight.
