Godzilla (2014)
Disappointing
Went to see it with awfully high expectations and ended up being terribly disappointed.
I wouldn't say it's as bad as the 1998 Roland Emmerich crap fest, but still this Godzilla has no soul.
I'm aware monster movies are supposed to be campy entertainment, and that's what I wanted to see!, I have no friggin' idea what Gareth Edwards intentions were!, the film is bland, boring, badly paced, the human characters are stupid and non sensical, and the monsters lack any real punch, even Gojira himself seemed overweight and weak, and the idea to make him a sort of antihero didn't work at all!
I grew up on all the Japanese movies from the 50's 60's and 70's and I can honestly say, as "bad" and corny and cheap as they may seem, they had more heart and authenticity than this version, still cannot fathom how this one has so many positive reviews!, half the audience at the theater was bored as hell halfway across the movie, and the worst part is they gave the lamest explanation for Gojira's genesis, in other words, I'm as ignorant as its origins as I was before going in to see the film.
Shrek the Third (2007)
What's going on with parts 3?
I have been watching the third installments of three major franchises, Spiderman, Pirates, and Shrek, they all sucked!!!
The last time we had a good third act was with Star Wars, Revenge of the Sith truly improved Lucas's mediocre Episodes I and II.
I'm not counting The Return of the King, because as Peter Jackson said, it's all a very big over 9 hour film divided in three, and besides the literary work was there since the 50's.
But it's a real disappointment that all of the above movies turned out so bad, Spiderman and Spiderman 2 were good films, filled with action, drama, comedy, tragedy, and triumph, but 3 was just too much coming and going without getting anywhere. I never liked Pirates 1 and 2, but at least they were watchable, At World's End is one of the worst movies I have ever seen, I nearly walked out halfway through. Shrek 1 and 2 were very original and funny, but they lost it with these one.
It seems Hollywood is more interested in the mega super-production, and marketing targets and promotions for its third installment films, but they are completely forgetting quality, character development, good acting, good stories, and even good action!
How I wish Peter Jackson makes The Hobbit or The Chidren of Hurin happen, because ever since the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, and a few others from franchises (Revenge of The Sith, Rocky Balboa, The Goblet of Fire), the sequels or prequels, have been turning out to be total excrement!
Alatriste (2006)
Sick and tired of bullsh**.
Yes, that's correct, I'm sick and tired of all reviews of recent movies, it's absolutely stupid! It's just a waist of time to see reviews of a particular film nowadays.
When a movie comes out, it's either: WOW! WHAT A GREAT MOVIE!, or DAMN! WHAT A PIECE OF TRASH! I think people should realize that the world is not all good, or all bad, it doesn't matter!, movies are made for entertainment only, it's not like you are reading Shakespeare or Cervantes, or looking at a Rembrandt or Velasquez, or listening to Beethoven or Mozart, it 's just an opinion on a particular theme.
I just read a whole bunch of the Alatriste movie critics, and there is an equal measure of excellent reviews and bad reviews.
People, it's just a movie! if you loved it, it's your point of view, if you hated it, it's your problem, but don't make definite judgements about it, especially with the American crowd, why do you think the rest of the world despises Americans?, 'cause they don't like Americans!
Is that reason enough for everyone to say American films and American opinions are sh**!, No!, is it because Americans are worthless scum that show no respect for the rest of the fuc***ng planet?, No! it's just the way things are! So don't give in to commie, fascist, anti-American or pro-American points of view, just have an opinion and don't dismiss a movie as great or terrible based on these criteria.
The world is gray!!!
Rocky Balboa (2006)
Great movies
There have been some truly magnificent movie franchises, 007, The Godfather, Harry Potter, but none that conjure up so many emotions as Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, and Rocky. For as great as James Bond has been over the years, you can't really shed a tear for any of the characters, same can be said about the Corleones, and Mr. Potter, but not for the Skywalkers, Hobbits and the Italian Stallion. I will address the Rocky franchise in this comment, the Balboa story was born out of uncertainty, it grew into a commercial success and it ended in an extremely high note, even Stallone's most bitter critics have recognized that the sixth and final installment is quite a good picture. Rocky was and is still considered one of the greatest movies ever, an original story, with a very believable development and finale, Rocky II followed in the same line, with, however, a typical Hollywood ending, nonetheless, a great second part, and at some levels, even more passionate than the first one. Rocky III was a full blown three ring circus, more entertaining, but lacking the heart and emotions of its predecessors. Rocky IV was a cold war motivated vehicle, don't get me wrong, I'm no commie, but let's face it, it was made in the same way Moonraker was made for James Bond, taking advantage of the late seventies space films craze. In 1985 it was the right move for Stallone, and I also have to say that aside from the USA vs. USSR issue it's an extremely spectacular chapter with some of the best training montages of the franchise. Rocky V is the weakest link in the series, Stallone and Avildsen tried to make a comeback to the original two, but the result was just awful, much in the same light the first two prequels of Lucas's Star Wars had miserably failed. The movie pretended to have the heart of the original and the action of the latter, it had neither. But Rocky Balboa is a true savior for the saga, it's one of the most emotional films I've seen since the Lord of the Rings, and Stallone gives one of his best performances, like he said , he was and will always be Rocky Balboa, and that's a wonderful legacy, because Rocky is what we all, deep inside, want to be, decent, good, be an example to others, and give all our heart in whatever mission, job, or dream we pledge ourselves to. The Italian Stallion lives on in each and every one of us, regardless of how much we have parodied his legendary existence, and Rocky Balboa, the movie does just that. Finally, my eternal thanks to Mr. Stallone for creating such an endearing epic saga to enjoy and appreciate.
Taboo (1980)
Great movie if you can handle the subject
I love the old adult flicks from the late 70's and 80's, and particularly Taboo. There are two things I like about the "golden age of porn", one, the performers actually seem to have a connection between them, other than the "wham, bam, thank you ma'am" of later years, and second, the female stars looked like your mom had a whole parallel lifestyle you didn't know about, the girl or Mrs. next door, with a twist. Which brings me to the review of the picture at hand. I know the main theme of this film is to portray and explore in explicit detail the mother-son incest taboo, and many people may be disgusted by it, but if you properly place it as simply being a naughty fantasy, I mean, come on, it's okay, it's not real, nothing bad is going to happen to you, just enjoy it for what it is. Kay Parker is excellent as the mother, and absolutely believable, a fine actress who appears as an intelligent, classy lady, and who can transform into a sex starved nympho the minute she's in the throes of passion. The build-up to her first carnal encounter with her son is more heated and alluring than anything you could see in today's XXX films, of course there's lots of sex in the journey, Kay has a great scene with "her husband" in the opening of the movie, but the real power is not the sex itself, it's the innuendos and voyeuristic situations, the scene in which the son catches a glimpse of her mom's tremendous breasts while having breakfast and tells her "I have the hottest mom in town", then Kay blushes, thanks him and covers her bosom. Also when Kay is in the shower and is spied on by her son is a landmark sequence in the Adult film industry. The part where Kay finally surrenders to her passion and has amazing sex with her son is both disturbing and extraordinarily exciting, the intercourse was both loving and hard, I mean sure it's downright wrong, but for a brief moment, you can actually share and understand the "kinkiness" of the situation. On a very personal note my own mother at the approximate age Kay Parker had in the movie looked very much like her, a beautiful elegant mature brunette with yet an incredible figure at 42, so in my wildest fantasy, (and I emphasize the word fantasy, which means not real), I related to the moment, imagine having sex with your own mother! But back to reality, if you can handle the subject this is a very good porno, if not the best, a classic which has so far survived the test of time, and has everything, an original plot, good actors, great sex, and of course the fabulous Kay Parker in the role that made her a part of cinema history, both mainstream and hardcore.
