I saw every movie from Marvel up until Endgame. Phase iv has not tempted me much so far. This one was the only one except for the new Spiderman and Dr. Strange movies I have considered. But all the bad reviews nearly put me off ever viewing it. So I went in with moderate expectations. And I am really shocked how much i disagree with most of the reviews. I think this is one of the better Marvel movies. Not the best, but among the best third of them.
The scenery and cinematography is the most stunning in any marvel movies. It has an overall more adult and serious tone than most Marvel movies, but still has enough humor to not become too dark and moody. And for once there is actually something at stake and real twists that you did not see coming. Not every hero is alive by the end.
The plot is more intelligent than usual with some real though provoking elements and not everything is black and white. A bit like the Captain America movies.
Casting is much better than expected. From the trailers I got the impression that the casting was done purely to have as muh variety as possible. But when you watch the movie it comes off as quite natural and neccessary since the cast is big with lot of new heroes introduced fast. And all the actors do a great job breathing life into their characters.
Some reviews complain about it being hard to follow and too much because not everything is told linear. But seriously.... I am not a huge fan of non-linear storytelling myself. But if this movie is too demanding for you then you have an attention-problem. Most of the movie happens in the present and is told linear with a few quick neccessary flashbacks. Nothing advanced.
I just dont get why people dont like this. Nice characters, plently of great action that is directed very well so you know what is going on , fantastic effects, story among the better marvel efforts, best ever cinematography. I suspect that most of the bad reviews come from people that that hate it just because there is one gay character in it and a shory gay kiss that lasts 2 seconds. Seriously? What is the problem? Props to Disney for "daring" to do this although it can hardly be seen as controversial in 2022.
