Should I have read the books ? Do the makers think we should all read the books first ? Because although I enjoyed the film I didn't love it , why ? Because for to long I didn't know what was going on ! The subtitles helped with the different languages, but we could have done with them all the way through. The film looks and sounds fantastic, but the sound did get in the way of some of the dialogue, which was sometimes hard to hear. The lead character could be in the running for an Oscar just because he occupies the screen so well. Austin butler was convincing as most of the actors were. But the plot is very complex I was struggling to keep up with all the weird and wonderful names of the races and worlds, ( a bit like game of thornes) . But all in all an enjoyable film that like I said looks stunning. Roll on Dune 3.

Thought I'd seen something about oppenheimer before
15 August 2023
When my son and I went to see the recent film, he asked me how I knew so much about the story. I said we'd learnt it at school. Well here I am flicking through the bbc iplayer when I come across a TV mini series from the 80s called oppenheimer ! And it clicked I'd watched it first time round 43 yrs ago when I was 15, and totally forgot. Just started watching it again and it's excellent. The story is almost identical to the film as you'd expect, but it's so similar the characters, the settings etc the script even, that the book of the current film must have been heavily influenced by this series. Anyway I'm going yo watch the rest of the series now 👍

Not sure

Can't make my mind up wether this is very good or very bad. Some of the story lines are really good as is the acting, but the sets and action sequences look cheap, the cgi looks like it's been done on the cheap. It's like a 2023 version of Dr who special effects. The lighting looks wrong and everything looks fake. But like I say the acting is good. I only started watching at series 3 , but I've managed to get to episode 6 , so it can't be all that bad. Is there going to be a series 4 ?who knows , maybe the bbc will spend more on the special effects , or actually go to the places being portrayed,Iike they used to.
Bette Davis ! What a star

Just watched this on BBC, heard of the film but never watched it, great film. Two great actresses who apparently hated each other in real life. Great performances by both actresses for different reasons. Neither won the Oscar !

Jenny convinced me not to watch it
3 August 2022
I admit I've not seen the film and I'll tell you why. Saw the cast including Jenny Agutter on BBC breakfast. The clip they showed didn't impress me, but worst of all was Jenny Agutter, she was trying so hard to sell the movie, but you could see she didn't believe what she was saying, some actors know when a film is poor , and this was one of those times. There didn't seem to be any connection between her and the children either, no chemistry, and judging by the reviews she was hardly in the film anyway, which may explain this. So sorry not seen it.

Different to the books but still very good
15 February 2022
The books are hilarious, and dark and sad (heartbreaking at times), and leave you knowing what we already know. The NHS is a wonderful thing despite its flaws and we are lucky to have it. The series is very good to , its more dark not laugh out loud funny, and concentrates more on the relationships. Loved it.

Up periscope to Casey Jones and hundreds of other roles
4 February 2022
Just watching up periscope and suddenly Casey Jones appears with a bevy of beauties on his arm. Casey Jones was on TV in the 60s and 70s in the UK. And a generation of kids knew the theme tune off by heart, great family entertainment on a Saturday morning , along with the flashing blade and Robinson Crusoe, and the bananas splits.

Series 2 on iplayer
26 September 2020
Just watched all of series 2 on iplayer and it didn't disappoint, I won't spoil it for everyone but it gets better and better. Episode 1 was probably my least favourite, but in the others we get more back stories on each ghost, each one is both very funny, touching and even sad. You have to watch each one more than once to get every joke, look and reaction of each character, as there's often a lot going on in each scene. Loved it
Fantastic film

To be fair I wasn't sure if I was going to enjoy this version of the classic Dickens story, needn't have worried, loved every minute of it, all the cast including young David were excellent. The story moved along at a pace, it looked wonderful, Dev Patel was excellent as David. It was at times funny and at times very sad, a very clever and enjoyable film
