Thought Provoking and Somewhat Entertaining
24 June 2004
Warning: Spoilers
*****Contains Spoilers*****

This is a 2-episode, made-for-TV, movie. The first episode was gripping. The second episode was a bit tedious, although I found the ending satisfying. It isn't for everybody, though, especially if you are any sort of fundamentalist. If you like to think about religion, though, then you should appreciate the the challenges the script presents.

As is the case with many stories that encompass the "supernatural", the film is engaging as the miracles take place, while much more difficult to follow and enjoy when the time comes to make sense of all that has come before.

The film is somewhat upbeat and inspirational, but that is limited by the atheistic philosophy that is promulgated...

Dogma (1999)
Painful & Boring
10 September 2001
I wasn't able to follow the plot at all. I didn't find anything about this movie experience enjoyable. No humor, no interesting settings, no beautiful scenery, no clever dialog, no insights on religion or history, no inspiration... (I am a practicing agnostic, by the way, so it's not like I was offended by the way the movie poked fun at conventional religion.) Oh well, I'm older than the target audience. Maybe it's a generational thing...

Top Secret! (1984)

One of the Funniest Movies Ever
19 May 2001
I have rarely laughed as much and as loud as I did watching this. I actually woke my wife up several times with my laughter, so she was "forced" to enjoy this with me. I usually don't like spoof movies (e.g. Mel Brooks), but this one had me in stitches. One joke after another -- there was barely time to catch my breath.

Hutton Terrific
29 March 2001
I thought that Betty Hutton was terrific, and neither Judy Garland nor anybody else could have done better. She was the highlight of the film, as she was believable in a farcical hillbilly role -- although that would seem to be a contradiction in terms. Music was good -- especially "Anything you can do, I can do better".
