The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About Christmas! (2012)
Good for the Kids
Displays a slew of thematic lessons for the kiddos, and makes a holiday movie fun to watch, by moving beyond the "classic" themes of a Christmas movie.
The Perks of Being a Wallflower (2012)
Good all around
So I've never read the book, but as a film this was actually really good. I'd give it a watch if you're in the mood for a good indies drama/suspense
Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn (2020)
Save your 5.99 rental for... anything.
The development of the Harley Quinn plot was an utter flop (once again) for Dc Comics. To develop Harley and build up the Birds Of Prey storyline of DC, this was a real disappointment. However, If you're down to watch a 2007 kung fu styled movie, with a decent cast... knock yourself out.
PSA: does anybody else flood DC's suggestion box on their website?
Light of My Life (2019)
Moving and original
This was a great play on your typical post apocalyptic viral film. Also, a job well done by Affleck. If you're open to watching something different I'd definitely recommend this. The themes of masculinity vs femininity and paternal instincts are beautifully displayed. From the cinematics to the dialogue, this was all around a great film.
High Life (2018)
Not for everyone, but a beautiful film
The subject says it all but for the average film watcher, the heavy saturation of thematic playwriting/scenery can come off as a constant. I do believe It's definitely something worth being reflected upon.
Again, I can see how the episodic style is a little off putting, but each rise and pitfall is worth resonating with.
Eli (2019)
Can we expect an Omen remake in 2020?
Definitely a fresh take on a child exorcist, however it definitely fell short of expectations. The ghosts depreciated throughout the film and really added very little body/context to the plot. I'm all for a good haunting and possession, but was there a crazy significance to having these "ghosts" come for Eli? Also, the reaching from from getting "317" out of Eli was a bit too thirsty for me...
