Eraserhead (1977)

by far the weirdest movie i've seen
12 November 2021
This film made me so unsettled in the best way possible. I can't imagine watching this as a parent. With an outstanding performance from the cast and beautiful directing and storytelling, the sense of unease is wonderfully juxtaposed with whimsical imagery. It's one of the most outlandish films i've ever seen but somehow, also the most profound. I wholeheartedly believe david lynch when he says it's his most spiritual film. It's not one for the faint of heart i would say. It's quite a disturbing film, but that's what makes it so great. The black and white coloring of the film really adds to the unsettling vibe and the dread. It may be a little slow but the story is intriguing and weird that it doesn't feel like it at all. There are all sorts of disorienting details throughout that add to the whimsicality of the film. Overall, the film is trippy, poetic, and all together heartbreaking. No wonder it's a classic!

blood with a hint of heartbreak
12 November 2021
Halloween kills is a strong follow up to halloween (2018). It gave us a lot of the character development we needed to love certain characters and it showed us a new side to the ones we already loved. This film gives us a deeper look into what happened after the events of 1978 and also gives us a deep dive into michael's psyche. The film shows more of michael's story and emotions without trying to make the audience sympathize with him. Nostalgia was the main goal of the film, with the main title being very reminiscent of the 1978 film and the return of some beloved characters. It was a strong, bloody, and fun film that did a great job, without outshining the first. The comedy was a nice relief from the much heavier tones of the film without overdoing it, it was a good balance. The kills were over the top and bloody but not hard to watch. The film was much heavier than we're used to. It shows how dangerous a mob can be. It hits especially hard with the events that have been going on over the past 2 or 3 years.

good but basic
12 November 2021
A fun filled thrill ride of scares and romance. It's a fun film above anything. It has a pretty basic plot and the characters aren't very fleshed out but it redeems itself with it's fun nature. The acting performances aren't anything special, they aren't bad, they aren't great. It was very fun seeing tony todd, even if he was in it for only a few minutes. I'm a sucker for movies about horror attractions so maybe that's why i'm giving it a 6 and not worse. I genuinely did enjoy it, it's more of a guilty pleasure film. This movie is fun and bloody above all else. Watch it for a good time not for a great film.

electrifying
12 November 2021
One of the most electrifying movies i've seen. I've heard that real metal bands in the 80s didn't think it was a comedy because of how real it was for them. Just goes to show that with good writing, a film can be interpreted in so many different ways. Was there really a plot or bigger story line? No. But did i enjoy this fun filled ride of sex and rock n roll? Hell yeah i did!

slow burn horror at it's finest
12 November 2021
I was skeptical about seeing this because it seemed basic. Boy, was i wrong. While, yes, the plot was a tad basic, the underlying messages most certainly were not. It was a very sad movie with a, not so underlying, tone of abuse. All of the main characters are survivors of abuse who are united through the attack of a mythological creature. Seeing the different ways people go through abuse in all three main characters was very interesting. Paul, the sherif, goes on with his life and buries it all deep inside until it finally bursts. Jules, his sister, is a tormented soul who's life is run by her past abuse until she decides to use it to her advantage. Lucas, jules' student, is currently being abused by his father, just like jules and paul had been in their past. He knows what's happening and that it shouldn't be but he loves his dad too much to tell anyone. This film has strong characters with strong character development. The performances, especially jesse plemons', are heartbreaking and very real, as his performances usually are. I've never been a victim of abuse so i can't imagine watching it through that lens. The ending was perfect and leaves you wanting more, which, i hope we get.

edgar wright's best film
12 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Oh man, what can i say about this film. It is perfect in every way possible. I've been a fan of edgar wright's for a few years now and he just keeps making masterpieces. Last night in soho was a psychedelic murder mystery set in both the 2020s and the 1960s. I'm having a hard time reviewing soho because a film has never made me feel like this before, genuinely. I can't really describe the feeling but it's great. It's a really great feeling. It was a powerful story about abuse, prostitution, and murder. It shows the true horror of the red light district in london in the 60s and how maybe it's better to just stay in your own generation. There's a lot of tones of female empowerment and taking back what's yours but it also raises a lot of moral questions, especially with the plot twist. Are you right for taking what's yours at any cost? Who's to say. But that plot twist, oh man that plot twist. Absolutely amazing. I went in thinking i knew how it would end. I was dead wrong. It completely changes the film. The first half felt like a nice story about two girls pursing their careers with a bit of dream time traveling and perhaps a bit of suspense and fear. The second half was full of murder and nightmare. All the performances were absolutely incredible. Matt smith never fails to surprise me with roles that are so far from his on doctor who, but he does it very well. He has the ability to make you fall in love with him and then makes you hate his guts. Thomasin mckenzie gave a breathtaking performance as eloise, the haunted fashion student. She made me feel like i was actually there which i think is part of the magic of this film. Anya taylor joy played the hauntingly beautiful sandie, a prostitute in soho. Her performance made me cry which doesn't happen often during movies for me. Sandie's story is heartbreaking and anya's performance only adds to that. As for the look of the film, it was gorgeous. It's the most beautiful film i've seen and i mean that. The coloring of the film and the camera angles really made each scene. Some scenes i felt uneasy, frightened and others i felt sadness, sympathy. It truly is a beautiful film in all aspects. Edgar is right when he says you should keep the magic of soho. Going into this film only having seen the trailer was incredible. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. He has a knack for writing the most likable and powerful characters. It's such a departure from his usual work but it's somehow his best film. Like i said, a film has never made me feel this way before, go watch it and maybe you'll feel the same.

i'm thinking this film is a masterpiece
12 November 2021
I'm thinking of ending things is only a horror for those that relate. It's about feeling like you'll never amount to anything and that you've wasted your life and you'll never be good enough. Yeah it's confusing but once you understand, it unlocks a whole new world of pain and sadness. I've seen this film 4 times now and every time i watch it i discover something new. That's what makes it my favorite film of all time. Kaufman took iain reid's story and turned it into a visual masterpiece. The color pallet does an excellent job of conveying sadness and a feeling of unease. Some people gave it bad reviews because it made them nauseous but i think that's what makes it great, it has the ability to evoke that feeling. Even without the color pallet, it's an uneasy movie full of awkward yet terrifying moments. The book is also incredibly good, it's able to evoke the same feelings without the advantage of visuals which i feel, don't necessarily make it better, but add to it in a way that makes it wonderful. All this to say, this movie a masterpiece of an art film.

Clarice (2021)

Pretty good
12 February 2021
I had my doubts but after watching the first episode I am totally on board. I was apprehensive because I just wanted another season of Hannibal but Clarice has so much potential. The first episode is very compelling and you really get a close look at how trauma affects different people. The acting is amazing, great performances all around. The references and mentions of Silence of the Lambs are really cool too. I love how much of Buffalo Bill we are seeing. It's not as great as Hannibal but it's definitely great.

GREAT MOVIE!!!!
8 May 2020
Despite the bad reviews, I enjoyed this movie. I enjoy slow burn movies very much. The pace of this movie reminded me of "I Am The Pretty Thing That Lives In The House" (which is a fantastic movie, I highly recommend it). The acting was incredibly well done. I am a big fan of Sophia Lillis and I thought she killed it! I think this movie is very underrated. I was dying to see it (with high expectations) and was not disappointed. It's a very interesting take on the original fairytale. Overall, this movie was great and I would definitely watch it again!!!
