Not as bad as people are saying it is!
14 April 2018
I really was keen on this when I originally saw the trailer, and then had my doubts when the first reviews came in. But it isn't as bad as many are saying it is. Yes, I probably won't ever watch it again, but it certainly kept me interested throughout the entire time.

No spoilers, but the ending is certainly worth the watch. It created a bit of discussion on moral dilemmas between me and my 2 sons (16 & 14).

There is a message in this movie (somewhere!)
26 December 2017
4/10 + 1 for Matt Damon, so 5/10!!! It went completely off kilter to what I expected. There's a message in there somewhere, something about humanity etc, and I'm not sure if they were trying to be funny with some of the characters or just really bad acting/casting. The Vietnamese girl annoyed the shit out of me, cannot tell whether it was her real accent or an overacted Vietnamese accent that was almost comical or derogatory to the Vietnamese people. Damon was good, but at times it was like he was going, "How the hell did I get involved in this?!"

Give Travolta a break, his acting is fine!
29 May 2003
Not a bad movie. I didn't see any previews of this movie so didn't really know what to expect. The first half of the movie is interesting but you begin to wonder where it is going. The second half really picks up the pace and with a couple of twists to the ending that catches you by surprise, I believe a really interesting watch.

For those that always knock Travolta....don't watch him!

Don't listen to critics!
22 April 2003
The critics would have you believe this movie was a load of crap. Well don't ever listen to critics. Sometimes they watch a movie thinking that it is a representation of real life.

This movie had the scares, suspense and excitement that one should expect from a horror story.

In short, it was a very good movie, with real scares, a good story line and a nice twist to the plot. I was never bored during the entire movie.

A movie that does a Stephen King novel justice.
17 June 2001
Fantastic. It is not often a cinema released film does justice for a Stephen King novel. I think (prior to The Green Mile), The Stand was the only King movie that was closely related to the book. And this is because it was a 6 hour movie. Stephen King stories are all character based, and movies very rarely have enough time to develop the character.

Very gripping, I obviously didn't know my history.
7 May 2001
Being an Australian, I do not have the greatest knowledge of American history. Thus I found the movie very suspenseful, I knew all ended well, but I didn't know how it came about. If it is factual, then it was portrayed very well.

Was a typical Kevin Costner movie, quite long....but ended before you lost interest. All in all, I enjoyed it a lot.

Read The Book!
24 March 2001
The movie adaptation of L.Ron Hubbards "Battlefield Earth" did not do the book ANY justice. A large book, YES, but an excellent read. I recommend that all persons who have viewed the movie (giving it a (probably deserved) rating of 2.3), read the book. L. Ron Hubbard does an excellent job. The movie, like all movies, is unable to develop the characters, or story line, that the book does. Battlefield Earth (2000) was an enjoyable movie, one that I rushed out to see, as I had read the book. With an extra several million dollars, and perhaps extending the original movie by 3 hours or so, the movie would have been damn fantastic. Read the book, and you'll have a better appreciation of the story.

Bodybuilding At Its Best!
6 March 2001
This is the movie that made me compete. It is an insight into the trials and tribulations of a competitive bodybuilder.

A fantastic movie to see the original Arnold, the man he was prior to his fame from movies.
