Nuovo Cinema Paradiso (1988)
Beautiful drama.
This is better than Life is Beautiful. The child, growing up and the end is all slow and natural. It's like life.
Ce que le jour doit à la nuit (2012)
A beautiful Love Story
I watched this movie and could draw parallels with South Indian movies where caste becomes an issue between lovers. This one is an absolute gem. The love that Emile emits on her eyes... it's hair raising... every time when she pleads with her eyes to Jonas... I was spell bound. How could she bring that love in her eyes and connect with the audience? It's a great cast, screenplay, backdrop shown with restraint, overall an amazing film.
The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel (2011)
A Feel good movie
India does that to you. You will hate everything about India when you land here but when you get accustomed to the ways you find peace in all the chaos.
This movie has humor, I could not stop laughing out loud :), drama and more importantly life. Everyone has their own set of problems and how they get solved at the end is beautifully portrayed by all characters. I didn't say actors since there was no acting required by any of oldies except for the young ones.
I laughed, cried and knew how the movie will end but still I wanted the drama to unfold.
La vie d'Adèle (2013)
An astounding love story.....
I saw this movie at the Chennai International Film Festival and what a film it was! I can't take Adele from my thoughts for the past 2 days. I see her faces everywhere. She carries the entire weight of this movie on her shoulders. I did not even imagine that 2 girls can love so passionately in real life. The expressions on Adele face whether sleeping or enjoying a meal or desires fulfilled in sex scenes. She is brilliant! No doubt that she lived the life of Adele. I think the film is great because the director focuses on Adele and her life. He is never out of focus (pun intended) from Adele. He captures her every mood in every frame. There are close-ups of her face in the big screen and camera revolves around her everywhere! I first felt it was kind of annoying to allow camera walk with her, dance with her but now I get it. The director doesn't want us to leave Adele, we must feel her and we feel her. No doubt about it! Its a love story! Go watch it and you will not regret it.
Pieta (2012)
A very strong and brutal movie.
I just viewed this movie in Chennai International Film Festival. It was brutal! absolutely brutal. Its not for the faint heart. The director's 3 Iron is one of my favourite in the long list of movies. To be frank, I didn't expect such a treatment in Pieta. It was too strong! in the beginning but as the story goes into climax it was much easier to watch. The movie shows that gangsters are human beings after all. Love can change anything and in this movie parental love changes a man forever. I just want to know whether the director's films are accepted in Korea. Do Korean's feel their society is like this one depicted? His movies are philosophical and this one is no exception.
Naqaab (2007)
The best Hindi Movie So far....in 2007.
The movie was great!!!. I saw a good Hindi movie after a long time. I have sure heard of Abbas-Mustan duo but got a chance to see their movie in Naqaab. I can see why they are making waves in Bollywood and Indian Cinema.
This movie started like a triangle love story movie with a slow pace. I thought come on.... Hindi movies are always like this... but the directors kept us a question mark, nagging from where Aksay Khanna is introduced. After the interval... believe me it was racy, twists and turns, funny sometimes and finally the ending sealed the movie as one of the best movies of this year!.
Bobby Deol... he comes as a multimillionaire and he is in love with Urvashi Sharma... they live together in the same bungalow in Dubai. She works in a restaurant and they planned to get married. In the engagement's's party by Urvashi she meets Akshay and subsequent meeting she falls in love with him. Bobby has played a meaty role with ease. He shows good acting in the first half as soft spoken lover and in the second half he plays/dons all kind of roles. I loved him in this movie.
Urvashi Sharma.... first thing first... she has a great body, sexy eyes... my wife was jealous on her!!!!:). . A cute doll and she plays her role to perfection.
Akshay Khanna.... well... he comes as a charming boy... does lot of tricks, deceives and flatters to win the love of Urvashi and us. He is good in his role, subtle in the second half.
All other supporting cast have done great job to lift the movie.
The movie has all elements of masala bollywood cinema and yet strikingly different from bollywood movies which has big stars like bachans or rai's or khans or johor.
Go watch the movie!!!... if you have appetite for a different cinema.
