The Swordsman (2020)
8/10
Love It!
3 November 2020
Even though Joe Taslim smiles a lot as a proud villain, but overall this movie delivered what to be expected, or as expected by me. This not a kind of wuxia movies while the swordmen are flying around the tall trees with their blades. This a believable wuxia fight movie, where the swordmen could be exhausted catching his breath. The period pieces also feels authentic, and the story also in the right pace. Some scenes are too dark and need more lights though. Try it, you will love it, especially the Indonesian actor as the villain, Joe Taslim speaking Korean!

Parasite (2019)
9/10
Korean cinema at its best
19 August 2019
First time I watched Bong Joon Ho movie was The Host, a Korean sci fi about the rise of the monster of Han river. The star, a stupid, low class but determine man played by Song Kang-ho. I fell in love with this movie, and then I look for another movies starred by Song Kang Ho, I get Memories of Murder, Taxi Driver and another movie about world war 2 between Korea and Japan.

The I realized, most of Song Kang Ho's best movies are directed by Bong Joon-ho, which are not much. This guy is about quality, he doesn't make movie every year. It took 3 years hiatus from The Host to direct the next one, Mother, and it took another 4 years before Bong Joon-ho directed Chris Evans and Tilda Swinton.

But Parasite is another masterpiece. It's easily considered as the best movie of 2019. Forget the noisy blockbuster Hollywood action flick. Parasite is a gem, a real gem that only movie lover can appreciate. Carefully directed, smooth dialog, the theme about the class struggle, the acting, the plot, the craziness, the comedic situation, all you could not easily forget.

I fall in love with Korean movies because of Bong Joon-ho and Song Kang-ho.

Worst Jacky Chan movie.
14 February 2019
I really cannot see any positive aspect of this fantasy movie. The dialog is too cliche and shallow, the plot is linear and cheesy, and the whole story is boring. You can get better fantasy movie like this without the big name of Jacky Chan.

Coens Never Let You Down
25 November 2018
Need more of Coens Brothers films, they're not so productive lately. It has been long since a good dialog and wonderful script of No Country For Old Man. And this one delivers what you expected, western in real deal, like reading a good old literature of tale but it gives you a satisfaction. Open with Lucky Luke sort of ballad in the first segment, and ended with a charm of transylvania-western creepy in the last segment.

Robin Hood (2018)
4/10
Don't Expect Too Much
22 November 2018
I watched this movie because the trailer show a different look of Robin Hood, different outfit, different production design. I thought it will be a very interesting approach.

After watching this, I really hope this movie was never made. It's just an ordinary action movie packed with Games of Thrones look. Or it just like you watch those teenage serial movie like Hunger Games, Divergent, etc. Not any single dialog, action, or plot made any single impression.

And then, they release this movie at the same time with Fantastic Beasts sequel, not a smart move don't you think?

If you're just looking for an action movie, watch it. If you're looking for more than that, skip it.
