Oh, man, you blew it. Ya dig?

A sad, depressing commentary on the hippie culture of the 60's, my first (and only) viewing today was a total let down. Jack Nicholson adds the only intelligent dialogue and hopefulness to this piece of counter-culture trash. As a flashback to that particular era, it's the only significance I see to this movie having been made. If it is true that the main players were high the entire movie, then what an insult to the movie-going public. Henry Fonda was correct in telling son Peter, after viewing it, that many people would not understand it. I am one of those people.

Entertaining and lighthearted family reality show
17 April 2021
I recently started watching CKB from the beginning and am now in the middle of season 4. I get a real kick out of the dad Todd and his controlling yet humorous nature and hilarious Southern axioms and sayings. He and his wife Julie (as well as Todd's mom Faye) have traditional values raising their children and I appreciate that in this day and age. Yes, there is some mild cursing that is occasionally bleeped out (mostly by Todd) but it is not the old Ozzie Osborne constant f-bombs from the past or of other current Real Housewives/reality shows where it seems to be the stars' everyday vernacular in conversation. It is always funny and never used to belittle anyone. One touching and eye opening episode featured Todd and his mother Faye taking Todd's children to visit the long closed and decaying textile mill in their hometown (in rural North Carolina I think - they were then living in Atlanta) where he and his mother both spent years working in the heat of summer (with no air conditioning and the constant humming of noisy processing machinery) often for 12 hour days. I think Faye said she worked there for 29 years or possibly longer. Obviously they came from extremely humble beginnings and through hard work and shrewd real estate investing, etc. Todd has been able to provide his family with a luxurious lifestyle while he and Julie try to instill the ethics of working hard, giving your all, respecting your parents and grandparents, etc. I really enjoy the light-hearted humor in the show and hope the upcoming seasons are as enjoyable while continuing to maintain an upbeat, positive format. Usually there is a life lesson garnered from each episode, and it always ends on a high note, at least so far. It is the modern day Leave It To Beaver which in this case should be retitled Leave it to Todd! Give it a 👀 look!

Farewell, Brian.
2 June 2020
In homage to Brian Dennehy and his recent passing, I wanted to revisit GP, having seen it upon its initial release decades ago. I recall being intrigued by the film's unpredictable plot twists.

However, such was not the case today. I could not get past William Hurt's unconvincing Russian accent. It was inconsistent and distracting and ruined my second (and last) viewing. I cannot recall why I liked the film so much the first time. But, I did appreciate BD (thankfully he played an American) and it was the only reason I finished the film. God bless you and Rest In Peace, Mr. Dennehy. Sorry, Mr. Hurt, I AM a fan of most of your other films though!
