Men with Brooms (2002)
Good, not 'great' movie.
I thought the sexual humour was a bit too much and the jokes a bit low-brow. However, on the whole it is worth watching. If you are Canadian, I would recommend going to the theatre to see it rather than waiting for the video to come out, that's because it's fun to share a moment like this with other Canadians. If you are not from 'the great white north' then you will want to wait for the video.
I put it on a par with Waking Ned Divine or Full Monty.

The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001)
Spoiler Great visual effects Wonderful Sound but that's all.
This movie is beautiful. This movie has great chest thumping sound. Other than that if you are not a huge fan of Dungeons and Dragons I would suggest you stay home.
The story is standard swashbuckling adventure. It is a bit remindful of the Wizard of Oz in plotline. The difference being that at the end of this 3 hour movie Dorothy doesn't get safely home to Kansas. We'll have to wade through another 2 parts of presumably equal length before we find out that the ring gets destroyed and the world is saved.
The book may have been ground breaking but the movie is just a boring story with a lot of special effects and wonderful scenery.
Movies with good stories will endure. Movies like this won't. Or shouldn't.

No Contest (1995)
Well It could have been worse.
This movie had no readily apparent redeeming qualities. I watched it for a quite a while and did not manage to endure the entire thing. I hung on for as long as I did simply to try to put a name to some of the actors on screen :John Calicos and Andrew Dice Clay.
The only positive thing I could say about the movie was that it had some nice exterior shots of buildings.
That's about all.

Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001)
Action sequences do not keep a movie from being boring.
I saw this movie because I thought I was in the mood for some rather light action entertainment. Plus I had downloaded and played the sample game a year or so ago and it seemed to be kind of fun.
However, This movie has such a weak overdone story line that it can not be considered exciting in anyway. The lead character played in an uplifting way (wink wink) by Angelina what's her name does not garner any sympathy from the viewer. Kind of like the video game character.
The writers struggle to give her some character and even get her tired looking real life father Jon Voight to play an even more tired cliche Yoda role.
Like the restless teeny boppers in the row in front of me, I tried to get into the movie but the snack bar and movie posters in the lobby seemed to be more interesting.
Normally I'm not above shushing unruly movie goers, but I really couldn't blame the kids in the audience for getting restless.
That's why I rated this movie only 2 push up bras out of a possible 10.
The Philadelphia Story (1940)
Perhaps the best dialogue from any movie I've seen
This movie has some of the best actors of the time. This, coupled with the truly first rate writing make this movie tremendously quotable. I find myself quoting lines from this movie time and again. Some of my favourites are, "She has a horror of men who wear their hats in the house". and "You were a little the worse, or better for wine, and their are rules about that".
After seeing it it always makes me feel like I have just been to a Shakespearian comedy. Certainly the plot, subplots and dialogue come across that way.
Even though great actors like Kathryn Hepburn and Jimmy Stewart are at their best it is Virginia Weidler that I find the most fun to watch. Seeing her sing "Lydia the tattooed Lady" still makes me laugh.
Notes when you are watching the movie pay close attention to the dialogue the first time you watch it. The second time look at the detail like Jimmy Stewart's hands and Kathryn Hepburn's body language.
Truly a movie that doesn't get boring after the third and fourth screening.
