After Death (2023)
Very disappointing message
As a Christian I was very excited to see this movie. Exploring near death experiences from many different viewpoints is a great opportunity to make people think about what happens after you die. The movie does a good job of showing that physical death is not the end, but instead it is a portal into the next life (or death) as the case may be. However, the most disappointing thing about the movie is that once it has the viewers thinking about what happens after you die, it completely drops the ball. Instead of letting people know that the only way to heaven is believing in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, it instead focuses on a generic message of being a good person and general love for others. The Bible clearing states that you can't earn your way into heaven (which is what this movie promotes), but that the only way to have eternal life is through accepting Jesus. After seeing this movie I did some research on Angel Studios, thinking they were a Christian based studio. Well, I discovered I was wrong. The term Angel comes from the source of their funding "Angel investors". There goal is to make shows that are family and kid friendly, without explicit material. As for this movie, the director states that he is an Evangelical Christian, but made this film for everyone. If that's the case he will have a lot to answer for when he stands before God. To whom much has been given, much will be required. To have the ability and resources to reach so many people with the gospel and not deliver is truly a crime. He may be a Christian, but I doubt he is an "evangelical" Christian.
Liger (2022)
Don't believe the low rating. This movie is actually pretty good.
All those one star rating are a joke. There's no way in less than two days of release it has over 20,000 one star ratings. There was some program falsely rating this movie down. It's actually a pretty good movie. If you don't like Bollywood you may not enjoy it, but overall it's entertaining and a typical Bollywood movie. During the pandemic we ended up watching a lot of Aamir Khan movies and so we got hooked on Bollywood movies. This is a typical Bollywood movie. It's interesting, funny, has some good twist and of course it's a Broadway movie so it has several song and dance numbers. It strangely has an intermission in the middle of the movie for some reason, but overall I would definitely recommend seeing it.
Vengeance (2022)
Unexpected surprise
We were interested in seeing this movie because we recently moved from California to Texas and it is set in West Texas. The movie itself has a very interesting take on how social media changes our perspective of reality. The movie was very well done and this interesting concept played out well. However, what really set the movie over the top for me was all the references to the Texas lifestyle. Being new here, I thought they were great. A lot of them were laugh out loud funny. I highly recommend this movie.
Don't Look Up (2021)
Over rated
Huge cast and an interesting concept, but it just didn't work. Too corny to be a good satire. Mark Rylance's character was cringe worthy. Glad it was on HBO Max so we didn't waste our money at the theater. However, if you do watch the movie you should stay through the credits, as there is an extra scene at the end of the credits that's worth seeing.
Space Jam: A New Legacy (2021)
This movie is as unlikeable as LaBron
LeBron James may be the most unlikable athlete in America and this movie did nothing to change that opinion. He will always be chasing Michael Jordan's shadow, never to be caught. I would've never paid money to see this in the theater, but I figured since I could watch it on HBO I would go ahead and check it out. Not the best decision I've ever made.
In the Heights (2021)
Way overhyped
This movie was way overhyped. I enjoy a good musical, but this move did not deliver. I was so bored I could barely make it to the end. Plus, the fact it was a political message movie may be the reason for some of the high ratings, but it definitely does not warrant it. I'm just glad I watched it on HBO and didn't waste my money at the movie theater.
Wendy (2020)
High hopes at the beginning. Disappointed by the end.
Love the feel of the beginning of this movie and was looking forward to seeing where it took me. However, by about mid way through it had not done anything to improve on that beginning. By the end it left me unfulfilled.
Breakthrough (2019)
Very emotional heart felt movie
Don't be swayed be any of the negative reviews. This movie is great. I think that anybody who gave it a one star review either didn't actually see it, doesn't have a heart, or has an ulterior motive (like trying to hide the truth). I can honestly say that I shed more tears during this movie that any other movie I can remember. When you have true stories like this, who needs fiction.
