Unbreakable (2000)
Disapointed
I really wanted to see this once I saw the commercials for it on TV so for my birthday (December 2nd) my 19th birthday, my parents brought me along to the movies to see it. Only thing is, we ended up being disapointed. Many parts were interesting and fun, such as the one scene about the Japanese comics, I am a huge Japanese animation fan and instead of comics, it's actual name is manga, and the genre would be hentai. ^_^;
Anyway, it was a very interesting idea for a movie, but it dragged on in the begining a little too much and could have done more with reasons behind things, such as more time about the ending, and about all different things involved.
Again, this movie was quite interesting, but wasn't as good as it looked. But Bruce was great even though his character seemed odd almost like he had no emotions or something. That probably doesn't make any sense. Anyway if you want to see it go ahead, you might enjoy it, but if you find yourself disapointed, sorry.
Rugrats in Paris: The Movie - Rugrats II (2000)
Um
This is really a comment from my sister, and nieces. My nieces are 8 and 4 and my sister took them to see it. They didn't like it, and the 8 year old clearly thought it was disqusting.
What with this thing about a barf bag on the plane and hints that Phill ate some and now he's feeling sick and Lil brought it along for him?
I can't remember what else to say, but they liked the first movie better and I used to be friends with the man who created Raptar or the Raptar song, I can't remember which for the life of me and he wrote 2 episodes for the series.
All I can say is I think it's gone downhill since the first movie.
I myself love all types of movies, whether they're horrors or not, but this scene with a barf bag and eating it for kids? That's just wrong in my opinion.
But hey, many people like it, just wanted to note what my nieces thought. Thanks for reading.
The Sopranos (1999)
Pure Enjoyment
I was able to see the first season on TV and absolutely loved it. Unfortunately for the rest of the seasons, my family and I will have to order TMN1, hope they do!
A lot of people in my area were outraged about the violence, nudity and swearing. I mean they had a warning before it started, and if you don't like it on TV, don't watch it. No one's forcing you, I mean I hate almost all the shows on TV because they're all too stupid. And if they cencered The Sopranos on tv, it would just be wrong. This is a story about the mob, and you can't think that they don't swear or anything else that is shown in the show.
I highly recommend this show to anyone who might like it, I really do and can't wait to see more!
Tenkû no Esukafurône (1996)
Wonderful Series!
For animation, this series is one of my favorites. It has wonderful music by the famous Yoko Kanno, and has wonderful artwork that shows that each and every artist took great pride and lots of effort into each drawing. One of the best things about Japanese Animation, is how all the series look absolutely amazing because they take time and pride in their work. All anime should be shown in their true form and always given credit to the original creators. A wonderful storyline that will always captivate you as you watch it.
The Thorn Birds: The Missing Years (1996)
Generally Disappointing
I was only two when the original miniseries came out, but ever since I was in about grade 5 or 6, and first saw it, I've absolutely loved it and even created a webpage dedicated to The Thorn Birds.
On a down note, I was highly disappointed in The Missing Years. I think they should have just left it with only the miniseries. Those who were in it, for the most part did not suit their role. Luckily they were able to get Richard Chamberlain in it. The storyline just didn't do anything for the original. There were many things in which you know would never have happened.
Although I did like the part when Ralph fought with Luke. And the ending was sweet. But many parts just seemed too far fetched. It was a nice try to make this, but they should have just left it. Especially altering the actual characteristics of the original characters such as Fee... And Vittorio.... That's just wrong o_o
Anyway, as I said before, I found it quite disappointing and many other fans seem to agree with me upon it. I have watched it and I do have a copy, mainly because I already have the miniseries. But it can sometimes be amusing to watch it just to see how very different it is from the original and to see the fight scene.. Even if I've only seen it two to three times since 1996...
Some people like it, some don't, just hope the original comes out on DVD.
How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000)
Pure enjoyment
I am by far a Dr. Seuss fan. I disagree with how some of the stories are written. I wouldn't be surprised if children who read it, go around talking like it thinking it's the right way to talk. But I've ALWAYS loved 'How the grinch stole christmas' ever since I was little. I grew tired of all the other christmas shows like rudolph and frosty, and never grew tired of this wonderful classic so I couldn't wait to see it when it came out to film.
I had gone to Toronto with my parents to visit my sister, her soon to be 5 kids. While visiting, me being 19, took my two nieces (8 and 4) to the movies to see the grinch. Of course, my father and sister came along as well.
As soon as we stepped into the theatre and found ourselves seats, my 4 year old niece had her face glued to the screen as soon as she sat down (and this was when it was starting to show the movie (after the previews were aired, we never saw them).
I absolutely loved it. And so did my nieces. Whether or not they caught the jokes doesn't matter because not everyone catches jokes or the meaning of things the first time through unless you're pure lucky. But as long as you enjoyed it whatever your age is, that's the whole point of the film. I mean, who would want to go to the movies and sit through the whole thing only to not like it.
I recommend it to anyone out there who likes the grinch. My nieces loved it even if they didn't catch all the jokes but trust me, children laugh at things even if they don't get the joke. Annoying, but true :P But again, as long as they enjoyed it, that's all that matters.
No one could have played the grinch like Jim and no one could have played Cindy Lou Who like Taylor :) So adorable ^_^;
But course... *praise* my nieces are just as cute :D *end praise* :)
The Thorn Birds (1983)
My opinions
I was only 2 when the miniseries first came out, but when I was in the 6th grade it was on TV, and the part that I saw that hooked me, was when Meggie was coming down the stairs at Mary Carsons birthday party. Ever since then it has been my most loved film of all time. I even showed it to my boyfriend and he actually liked it.
I wouldn't change anything from the miniseries and I believe that everyone in it were excellent, especially Richard Chamberlain, Rachel Ward, and Christopher Plummer. I believe if anyone was played by a different person, it wouldn't completely satisfy us viewers. About a year ago I created a webpage dedicated to The Thorn Birds (only) so if you would like to see it, e-mail me or click through under the photos link if it is listed. Or just go to yahoo and do a search.
I also am writing a sequal of my own to it so if anyone is curious as to what it's about, don't hesitate to email me.
On a down note, they shouldn't have made the sequal 'the missing years'. The people in it weren't good enough at their character, only Richard Chamberlain was in it, and the storyline just didn't do anything for the original. If you haven't seen The Thorn Birds yet, just see Thorn Birds, and do not see the sequal unless you just want to see it to see how disappointing it is compared to the original. It also wasn't good to alter the actual characteristics of the original characters (such as Fee). Quite disapointing in my opinion, and many others seem to agree with me.
Enjoy! Long live The Thorn Birds! P.S if anyone knows if thorn birds will be coming out on DVD or know where I can contact someone to ask, please please PLEASE let me know!
