The Land That Time Forgot (2009)
Must be loony, I enjoyed it!
I'm a fan of cheesy creature features and this ranks right up there, I mean, come on, it IS a cheesy creature feature! I don't expect to be riveted to my seat or witness award winning acting when I rent or buy something along the line of "The Land that Time Forgot". We aren't talking Gone with the Wind here. This is a mindless romp of fantasy, and adventure, something to watch on a rainy afternoon, or late at night when you can't sleep. I enjoyed C. Thomas Howell and the others just fine. I don't know if they were taking themselves too seriously or not, it was entertaining, that's all I care about. I was actually surprised after it was over, it was better than I thought it was going to be.
If you are truly a die-hard fan of the "B" cheese, I think you'll enjoy C. Thomas Howell's version of The Land that Time Forgot. I did.
Casino Royale (2006)
Wow! I was blown away!
Saw Casino Royal tonight. I expected that it would be different, up-to-date, meaner, as I'd seen the trailers, but I didn't think it would be this good. I was thrilled with this grown-up version of my favorite spy. Casino Royal was my favorite Bond Book, and it has just become my favorite Bond film! Daniel Craig is wonderfully intoxicating as 007. He's brutal, hard-as-nails, but has a tender side that was skillfully shown. And those blue eyes, oh, ladies, oh yes, we have found our new James Bond! The action is updated from the book, as well as our man Bond. Though it is set at the beginning of his career as a 00-agent, it's set after 911 and deals with international terrorism. The twists and turns are intelligent enough to keep you guessing start to finish. The violence is harsher than you're used to in a Bond film, and one scene will make your skin crawl, but that's OK...it's good to finally have a Bond film made for grown-ups not kids. There's still some flashy cars, and women, but happily gone are the days of Pussy Galore! I hope everyone will go, and enjoy this rebirth of a legend! It's a grand thing!
Blue Collar Comedy Tour Rides Again (2004)
Rides again rides into muck
We really enjoyed the first Blue Collar Comedy Tour, it was funny without being offensive. I was very much offended by this second offering. In fact, by the time Larry the Cable Guy was 5 minutes into his start, I was finished. We begin with all the boys on the bus, and some 12 year old bathroom humor. Then we're taken to the stage and the long slide downhill begins.
I'm not sure why the guys all decided to use raunchy sex as the linchpin for their comedy this time around, but it was bad. Probably most offensive was Ron 'tater salad' White. I know being 'drunk' is suppose to a part of his act, but I'm not sure it was an act...whatever, his 'jokes' were in bad taste and not really funny. Really, how long can you talk about dog poop? Or his 'riding' his wife? Bill Ingvall is usually on top of his game talking about his family, not this time. Again, we end up with too much information on his sexual issues. We did get a few 'here's your sign' comments, but some were refried.
I was very disappointed start to finish, and ashamed that I had called my 85 year old mom to make sure she watched it. Thankfully, she had tuned out, as put off as I was. So, if you're into crude humor, drunken bores, and stupidity, then this is the one to watch. On the other hand, if you expect to see a repeat of the first Blue Collar, don't watch this. Put the original in again, enjoy that.
