What a waste of time!!!!!!
21 December 2003
Warning: Spoilers
Contains Spoiler!!! I just saw Cheaper by the Dozen and was thoroughly disappointed. A bland script combined with overacting kids.I know the book well and I could not believe that the screenwriter chose to use none of the humorous incidents in the book and transfer them to the screen. The only laughs in the film occur during the closing credits. That is when they show the film's bloopers. In the book, the patriarch of the family dies at the end. Too bad that did not happen here. I dread the thought of a sequel. Will someone please give Bonnie Hunt a good script! A talented actress wasted. If you want to see Cheaper by the Dozen I suggest renting the original and its sequel or at least read the book. You will not be disappointed.

It was bad but was actually getting better just before it was cancelled.

Although the series was pretty bad ( because of the awful slapstick) it actually was getting better. The writers were told to tone down the slapstick. One of the last episodes aired was a wedding flashback episode that also starred Audrey Meadows as Lucy's sister. This episode was a turning point in the writing. It was amusing without any slapstick. This is what the series could have been from the beginning. It is too bad that it was yanked off so soon. It was just beginning to correct its mistakes.

Great film for teenagers
12 March 2000
I have been showing this film to high school students taking a film class for years. They love it because it has comedy and drama. The ending surprises them all. Great teaching tool to explain the French Speaking vs. English Speaking Canadians; the Vietnam War. I always have good discussions about the characters' problems and the choices that they made to solve these problems. Most of my students didn't even know that Quebec is a French speaking province; had no knowledge of "being drafted" or "draft dodging". Good film all around.Great theme song, also!!! We all love Claire Pimpare the lead actress!!!
