Fighting Stock (1935)
Classic British comedy
Hilarious comedy with every performance a gem . The characters are so beautifully brought to life and the dialogue fast paced . Robertson Hare's long suffering milktoast secretary is wonderful but the lecherous uncle and nephew sparkle as well . 5 stars by my standards .
The Nutty Professor (1963)
Jerry's best movie
With the recent remake of The Nutty Professor, you realise how good the original was. It showed originality and innovation and the minor performances are sharp and well defined . Some people are critics of Jerry Lewis and I have to admit that not all his movies got it right , but this one did and it compares very well to most recent comedies that seek to follow a formula without sticking their neck out . Jerry did in 1963 with this one and it worked .
Bottom (1991)
Brilliant
Absurdly lavatorial and violent but brilliant comedy. 2 misfits living in a run down flat in London . The performances and scripting are at times simply brilliant with the over-the-top surreal violence being amazingly funny .
Miss Marple: A Murder Is Announced (1985)
Confusing !!
This is one of those movies where you will need the rewind button if you are watching it on tape . The plot is so complicated that it would be otherwise unwatchable . The cast of characters who aren't what they seem is hard to swallow and so the implausibility of it all eventually spoils what are otherwise good performances and nice production values . Too many contrived coincidences and highly unlikely behavior patterns make it a little annoying to watch . But fans of the genre , with a rewind button , will enjoy it .
