"Sealab" is an installment of "American Experience" that is about a part of relatively recent history that few know about or have heard of...saturation diving experiments performed by the US Navy. It seems that back in the 1960s, many of the diving rules we've learned over the years were yet unknown....particularly in regard to deep scuba dives and prolonged deep dives. The film is about a group of brave (and perhaps crazy) men who risked, and in one case, died, in order to make such diving safe. The show follows several Sealab missions...and I was surprised that one of the driving forces in this was Scott Carpenter...the guy who was previously an astronaut. He apparently left the space program for this risky program. Well worth seeing...and well made from start to finish.
