Dotara is a musical instrument from Bengal and just like the beautiful instrument the film too has struck a chord with the audience. Director Amitava Dasgupta has indeed proven that he is going to be a force to be reckon with in the very near future. The story of the film is it's strong point, however the screenplay seems to lose it's plot at times. The look of the film is pretty dusty but that doesn't prove to be a hindrance but adds colour to the overall likeability of the film. Subrata Dutt as a manipulated young man has done very well. He has completely done justice to the role he was given. Snigdha Pandey and Rajesh Sharma too have done really well. The film could do wonders for Sonali Chowdhury. Sonali proves what a wonderful actor she is and in the right hands she could be better than the best. The music of the film is amazing especially the folk sections of the songs. The BGM too was spot on. Camera work at times seemed a bit fogey and at times out of focus but it managed to hold itself together. Editing was superbly done but at times the cuts seemed forced. Overall the film is a must watch simply because of its killer content..
