An okay awards show overall with some strengths and weaknesses, especially in terms of winners

Warning: Spoilers
Here we have "The 25th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards" from less than a week ago and every guild has its awards ceremony where it honors the best of the year when it comes to visual effects, makeup or directing, writing and a lot more, basically every production value and same applies to the actors. And as acting is still more in the focus than pretty much everything else when it comes to movies, this one also gets more attention than most of the others for example by being broadcast on live television. So who was best in television series last year? Best in television mini series and of course best in film? Watch for yourself or keep reading as I give you a whole lot of spoilers obviously now. Rami Malek won over Christian Bale and three other folks. For Bradley Cooper, this was finally the moment there is no Oscar hope for him anymore. For Bale, there still is, but Malek is the frontrunner now and rightfully so. He was mesmerizing and I truly hope he gets the Oscar. Glenn Close is probably even more of an Oscar favorite now than Malek as she took the SAG Award after Golden Globe and Colman and Lady Gaga really needed this one to be more than an upset come Oscar night. Looks like Close has all going for her now, also the overdue component of course and well we will see what happens at the Oscars and I would not rule out the other two completely yet. Supporting Actor Mahershala Ali is comfortably on his way to winning his second Oscar, Elliott and Grant have only very small upset potential by now. Emily Blunt winning the SAG was a bit of a surprise, but I guess they also honored her at the same time for the great year she had breathing new life into Mary Poppins. But this win was almost a win for the not nominated Regina King as especially the two girls from The Favourite not winning means they most likely won't touch her at the Oscars. Black Panther winning Bestg Ensemble Cast, well I cannot disagree with that at all. I think the film is okay, but vastly overrated, the Bestg Picture nomination is a joke too. Maybe Bohemian Rhapsody would have needed the win here to be a force in the Oscar Best Picture race too and I think they were great, but yeah the category wasn't too big this year, also with Crazy Rich Asians getting in. So I think they awarded Hidden Figures a while ago and again the Black film gets the win and that is no big surprise. I just wish the film could have been better. BlackkKklansmen for example I'd have preferred. But the perhaps worst moment of the show was the guy accepting the award for Black Panther telling the music to shut up basically after he was already speaking way longer than everybody else. Disgusting and void of respect whatsoever.

Moving on to television. I only know Criss from Glee and don't/didn't find him likable or talented, so I am baffled he is still cruising this awards season winning basically everything, even here for what is considered a supporting performance. I really have to check out that Versace mini series at some point. I don't mind Bateman and Oh, Arquette I have never been too big on and she has a tendency to overact. Oh well, at least Linney didn't win. Shalhoub as a Monk fan I like to see winning (especially over Douglas) and this makes me even more curious about Mrs. Maisel, which I still haven't see. Brosnahan also always seems pretty likable, so good for them winning the big prize too. This is Us I still haven't seen, but as I have been a big Mandy Moore fan for a really really long time now, it was great to see her speak there accepting the awards, I still have hoped she could make a transition to the big screen beyond voice acting. And boy does she look stunning. Really need to check out This is Us. Away from the competitive awards, I thought the in memoriam sequence was a bit too forgettable. Alan Alda made a very deserving Lifetime Achievement winner and Tom Hanks' introduction was top-notch there. Host Megan Mullally well, she tried her best, but honestly her material was really not good. I read the Oscars are probably going host-less this year, the SAGs should have done the same I think. Emily Blunt and John Krasinski were cute together. Lady Gaga was far too much in the spotlight as usual. Her film is not good, her performance is not great, but yeah she attracts the masses sadly. Kinda expected Robin Wright to win given everything that happened surrounding House of Cards and Kevin Spacey, but I am somehow glad she didn't. Some of the nominees also felt a bit strange this year I must say likefor example Krasinski for Jack Ryan. The presenters could have been more significant too, sorry Awkwafina. Overall, an okay awards show, tough to comment on a lot as I haven't seen many of the winners and nominees, especially television-wise, but it could have been better, could have been worse. It was good they kept it short at minimally over 1.5 hours, so the show did not drag too much. Thumbs-up as a whole. Check it out if you like awards shows.
