A woman's approach
lor_27 May 2021
Nica Noelle has written and directed about 100 Gay (boy/boy sex) features, quite unusual for a female filmmaker, and I have always wondered why -what attracted her to the genre? This Mile High release from its Icon Male label (which Nica originally launched) helps illuminate the manner.

She previously made a number of girl/girl features centered on the party game "Truth or Dare", and here adapts the format to an all-male cast of studs. The BTS short subject on the DVD shows the cast of four guys constantly breaking up (collectively) while reciting Nica's dialogue, as the auteur avoids a locker-room talk approach, instead giving these characters empathy. It's almost role-playing, showing their (or more accurately her) feminine side.

Armond Rizzo is appealing as the twink in the troupe, while Nick Sterling is a newcomer to Nica's acting troupe. Roman Todd is effective as the reluctant gay among 'em, shown in flashback having sex with Nick in what amounts to a bicurious "straight guy" episode, and then ends up as a result of the Truth or Dare game (which uses a "Spin the Bottle" method for choosing players) ends up being paired for sex with Billy.

It's a pleasant rather than dramatic feature, notable for the empathy Noelle invests in her characters.
