An entertaining action movie

A small zone in Lisbon, is attacked by an invasion force, and a lonely man must defend is home, at all costs, many of the bad guys are pretty one dimensional, but not all of them. One of the most intriguing characters is the Leader. Action scenes and stunts are well executed. It has great momentum and is never dull. It's not perfect by a long stretch but certainly is one of the most memorable movies released this year.

The Portuguese Patriot

It's an action picture that will entertain people who like action pictures. The acting is not brilliant, but is good, and the whole movie works. I absolutely loved it! It´s a man´s fight with trauma and struggle to survive, and killing as many as he can, to stay alive.

This is a movie for those that live in the "conspiracy theory" era. Could it happen in the Portugal, absolutely. If an event like this were to take place we would need to bare arms and take the nation back, in this case the zone, because John´s zone is the last free zone, war arrives and he just kills and kills, like a machine (like the terminator)

Amazing movie

Excellent overall. Cast is great. It´s entertaining if you keep in mind that this is a fictional story along the lines of David and Goliath. Its about overcoming obstacles no matter how threatening or big they are. Just the thought of something like this happening is crazy. Not only do you feel the action and rush of the film you feel the emotion. They did a good job at making you feel what he felt as if it was real.

Good action direction, enjoyable war movie

Lisbon is invaded by a hostile force and its up to one man to turn into 'the resistance' and fight back. It's all pretty cheesy and to think that only one man can make the difference here, we have to turn off our brain, just relax and enjoy it. There are some pretty intense and dramatic scenes, mainly involving the carnage the invasion brings.

Ultimately, don't take it too seriously, and you might have fun.

Will become a cult film in time.

Refuge 2099 is a great film, it has plenty of great action scenes and ones with intense drama. It does manage to keep its balance, that the action scenes seem pretty accurate and thought through. It is only a few times they go over the top and turn to over-violence, I'm especially thinking of the beginning, the invasion. To their credit is that they don't overdo the explosions, and doesn't rely on special effects to thrill. It is the story that drives this movie, only augmented and emphasized by the violence, not the other way around.

Non-stop action

Great action movie, great storyline, love this ! This Invasion was a bloody good time. It reminded me of Michael Bay´s movies, over the top action, with fighters, army, patrol boats, miniguns, C130, buildings collapsed.

Lisbon is invaded...and a one-man army comes to the rescue.

Director Rui Constantino, brings us another classic action movie, based in the 80´s movies, where Lisbon is invaded by a group known as the plunderers, their leader wants it all, and doesn´t care about anyone, they only live to kill, but now John´s zone (the only free zone left) is attacked and he tries to survive to the group's assaults, until he is all alone. That's when we feel the tension that emerges from the character, it becomes difficult for him to face all that situation, because he has gone through several wars, and these left many wounds. the radio contact scenes were the ones I liked the most, a great movie full of action and violence, but that makes us think and if we were really invaded? what would we do?

Definitely recommend this movie, it's an awesome gem, go see it now.

Action and tactics of the ultimate portuguese soldier

The storyline is great. The supporting actors are amazing, the special effects are great, believable movie with an action hero capable of everything, loved the traps he made in the building. From the vehicles, to the number of extras, and explosions it is clear that a great deal of expense went into the production.

For me it has great patriotic feel at the end.

We´ve got a powerful performance by all the actors, this is a big budget movie, with lots of extras and great scenery, The action sequences are well done and look realistic. For instance, there's a scene where a sniper rips the head of a portuguese soldier with just one shot, you see the visceral explosion of the head leaving the body, as it hits the ground. The prologue establishes the circumstances under which the invasion occurred and the action that proceeds from that premise is possible. Liked the musical score.

An outstanding action entertainer, a must watch!

The film is not for a second slow or boring, it's jam-packed with nonstop action and some really surprising twists that make it a spellbinding action thriller. This film is a must watch for action fans all over the world.

An enjoyable popcorn flick

The invasion starts as soon as credits roll, them we see John gettin out of bed only to see the forces of the plunderers on parachutes (great homage here to Red Dawn). They did a good job of keeping the story moving forward without getting boring at times. All in all it was an enjoyable film for what it is, and even though it had its far fetched moments like John clearing the stairs of his bulding and killing 20 soldiers, just like Rambo on last blood, there is also a good balance between action and dialogue, with a few humorous scenes. And it also leaves room for a sequel.

As Expected, Lacking in Depth and Human Realism

The best way to describe this movie is with an analogy. The "bad guys" parachuting into the town, killing all people in sight. (it has pointless action, not reaching for enough depth) took me out of it and kept it from being as good as it could/should have been. Too much violence, cinematography/SFX: 6/10. Special effects were alright. Bottom line: 5/10 (Not an average).

Only for action junkies...just like me !

It´s a serious, sophisticated, fearless, action movie, that delivers the goods. it´s for action lovers only, awesome screenplay, fantastic acting, i liked the way it was directed and the plot was pretty interesting. It's Mayhem, Pure-And-Simple.

This movie have good combination of action and drama to make this movie incredible likeable. The fighting scenes were choreographed wonderfully. Excellent acting performance to all the characters.

This is a great fun action packed movie, that's worth a watch for sure!

It's a movie about Portuguese people fighting for freedom, John is a lonely man who finds himself in the middle of this war, and has to fight back or loose his home forever, he and Nando made the lives of all the enemy soldiers a living hell. The special effects are good, the story is compelling, and the conversations on the radio, made the movie more exciting. The film's action is brutal and very entertaining. The actors were amazing as well. This is an awesome movie. I love it. It's one of my favorite movies.

Surprisingly Good

The world is changed into zones, the plunderers have conquered all of them, and the police and army loose control, the only free zone is where John lives, all seems quiet until one morning he awakes up to the sound of explosions "that´s when the nightmare begans". He´s all alone fighting for his home and zone, sometimes we can see that fear takes over him, until a light shines down the tunnel, as he tries to reach someone on the radio, then more help comes along. It´s a great story filled with action and tension. The action was well done. Actors also good. Very entertaining movie. I would hope for a sequel.

Most awesome low budget action movie i´ve seen this year !

It's an action fan's delight of the most incredible action scenes, i´ve seen in a low budget movie like this. Super violent in the best Constantino movies tradition, John makes his way through the enemy forces. He singlehandedly wards off an invasion to his on building killing soldiers left and right, trough the roof. The scene with the patrol boat it´s incredible.

Just sit back and enjoy the ride.

A crown jewel of pure action

A retired veteran, is attacked in is zone by a bunch of invaders, that want domain Lisbon, what they didn´t know is that in this area lived a veteran, and that besides being alone he will face them, as the movie progresses other characters join him Nando and Leonor played by Hugo silvestre and Luna ribeiro, which will bring various elements of drama to the film. The leader of the invaders begins to lose hope in his army when they are totally decimated by John and the Portuguese military forces led by Sergeant David, and Corporal Tobias, the Portuguese attack with a great force, the most incredible planes, patrol boats and helicopters. this movie manages to pull us into battle as if we were together with them in war.

Nonstop wall-to-wall ultra-violent carnage is the order of the day here.

Surprising original exciting action movie !

The movie is very acted, has a great tribute to the 80´s, even in it´s music, and it very evident that the director loves this kind of action, in all his movies that i saw so far, he tries to accomplish that, and succeds at all levels.

Now for the history of this one, we´ve got a veteran living alone in his house, when suddenly invasion begins, and he has to defend his home, from the lethal plunderers, John begins killing them in a variety of ways, including chainsaw, machete, grenades, machine guns, pistols, we have it all. then we still have the Portuguese forces led by Pinecross (who here begins to establish himself as a leader). The battle of the Portuguese air force brings us back to the past reminding us of movies like Top Gun, Iron Eagle, and then the ground battle takes us in time to: Rambo, Invasion Usa, Red Dawn, among others.

For me, it's the best title I've ever seen so far from Constantino Filmes, and I believe the future will only bring us good things, these guys are revolutionary and they just need some fundamental supportive help to find more audiences.

Highly recommend.

Great action B movie

If you want shakespeare, watch Hamlet. Constantino films and Unknown pictures gives us exactly what we paid for, a non-stop action movie, of great bad guys, one liners, guns, explosions, high body count, random violence, John with an Bazooka taking down a roof full of bad guys, fists, and an epic guns blazing finale !
