Keeps you guessing. Very decent anime.
frankblack-7996111 August 2020
It's definitely not your standard story. Quite confusing for the first few episodes and they don't quite explain everything at the end. Rather a strange anime indeed. While a masterpiece it is not, it was rather interesting. Just expect to not understand a lot of what is going on. Worth a watch.

Still haven't finished it yet but...

Looks promising, but I really suggest you play the videogame first: that's the source material for this anime. If at the end of the anime there are still unclear points about the story the game should be able to answer those ;)

Overrated as heck
emodit13 July 2018
Encouraged by the high IMDb score I watched the first episode and it was quite a disappointment. Sick story with disturbing characters, annoying music and voice acting, and not a lick of originality. A 12 year old's wet dream of overhyped violence with an obvious intent to up the ante compared to the last similar anime, that makes mature audiences either yawn or want to vomit.

Loved it, but...

Warning: Spoilers
I love this show. The characters and backstories are brilliant. But...it does leave you with so many questions that nobody seems to know the answers to. No one else that I've seen post, has even noticed that Doctor Danny and Catherine Ward bear a striking resemblance to Rachel's parents. Catherine has the same laugh as her mom. And as the father was beating the mother he says "do you think this is all a game?" ....leading Catherine to run a game show. Doctor Danny wants Rachel to see him as god, just as all fathers want, but he also says things like "I clothed you, fed you....." things a father would say. I don't know who the others were supposed to be or how they were apart of either her life or delusions, whichever the case may be, but I'm personally betting on this whole show being seen through the eyes a neglected, disturbed little girl and Zach was her Angel of Death. I adored Rachel and Zach's dynamics. They were soul mates, just not in a sexual way. She truly wished he would be the one to put her out of that miserable life she was stuck in. But I think, by the end, he'd come to love her and want her around. Unfortunately, if it was all delusional, that means Ray only killed herself in the end.

Definitely not good, but maybe enjoyable
ajyoung-5451717 November 2021
About the first 2/3 of the show feel like you're watching a weird dream, which I mean in a good way. The last 1/3 feels like a middle-schooler trying to sound deep. It's not as gross or violent as some reviews suggest. Overall, I'd compare it to an above-average video game movie from the mid-'00s. Take this info as you will.

Give it a Chance
zelliebear10 August 2018
There was a lot of hype around this show but I think it completely lives up to it. Even the English dub is executed wonderfully. The concept is very abstract and I think it has an excellent story. All in all it's fantastic, and if you want a dark show with a bit of a thrill this show is perfect.

Terrible

Don't waste your time. It starts off decent then the story totally unravels and doesn't make any sense. I found myself hate watching until the end. I wish I could get the time I wasted back.

couldn't finish it

Warning: Spoilers
This is possibly the worst anime i've ever seen. no hate to the producers or fans of this show, but it was so boring that i stopped at episode seven. i really wanted to give it a chance, hence why i even continued until episode seven, but i just couldn't stand it anymore. the main characters' voices pained my ears every time they talked. zack sounded like a 70 year old man who smoked everyday of his life, his attitude towards everything, and his yelling and constant "huh?!?!?" bothered me throughout the episodes. he was saying it literally every other sentence. i immediately disliked him. rachel, on the other hand, sounded like a robot. her voice was monotone throughout the episodes and had no emotions toward anything. her responses were bland and around three words. i understand this adds to the plot and everything, but their voices alone was too painful for me to continue. i will say, i do like the character development between rachel and zack. he starts to call her ray around episode 5 maybe and gets more comfortable around her. my guess is that by this time, he didn't want to kill her anymore. the plot was average i guess. it seemed cool at first but dragged on and every episode felt the same. they get stuck for a while, rachel figures something out, and the resident gets killed as they move onto the next floor. i had a lot of questions as each episode went on, but it was clear to me that they were going to keep dragging it on and probably never answer them anyway. the gore and action didn't impress me. all it is is zack slashing things with his scythe and if that doesn't interest you, rachel shoots some crazy woman in episode 6! it didn't have me at the edge of my seat, wondering what was going to happen to the characters next episode. all in all, if you're looking at the description and considering the show, my two cents is to not watch it at all.

Absouletely love love this horror twisted anime!

Warning: Spoilers
I am so sad that this anime is finished like I am obsessed with Rachel & Zack. They did such great teaming up together to escape a building full of other serial killers who like to trick em and stop them from escaping. Even that priest was odd enough to help them escape and yet he always called Rachel a witch. I liked how this anime dived into some of the serial killers background including Rachel's and made it realistic on why they are all broken within themselves. It seems here that Rachel and Zacks parents were full of abuse to them like Rachel's father was mostly the bad guy for domestically abusing her mum and killing her. So for revenge, Rachel shots him and stitches them both up like dolls to make it seem they are a happy family again. It was very disturbing to say the least but you understand what broken family she was coming from. As for Zach, his parents neglected him to a illiegal orphanage with trafficked children and of course the father was trying to burn him so that's why the dude is always covered in bandages.

The ending I have to say was really sad, I'm thinking that Zach and Rachel did leap to their deaths so this seemed to be the only way Zach promised to kill her. Like this happened after he ecsaped from prison since he was sentenced to death and managed to find Rachel at the rehabilitation centre she was at. If romance was added to this which I know wasn't, Rachel and Zack I think would make a great couple because they seem to be obsessed with each other a lot.

Brillant anime, brillant soundtrack and brillant Japanese voice actors. Hands down I'm giving this a 9/10! Definitely one of the best anime of 2018!

Boring plot - Annoying character voice
nodlimax13 June 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I stopped watching after episode 4. The plot seems to be rather odd and also boring. Why should I get invested if the goal of the main character seems to be get killed at the end? At the same time if the secondary main character gets out he'd go on killing more people as he's literally a psychopath.

How is this something to look forward to? Then the guy Zac has one of the worst voices I've heard I've heard in anime. I know that Nobuhiko Okamoto can do really good work (My Hero Academia => Bakugou). However here either he was miss cast or had some problems during the recordings. The voice is constantly cracking with the screaming and laughing. It's not working for me.

Also repeating the basic premise "I help you out and you kill me afterwards" is just not something that doesn't make a lot of sense to me. The girl could've gotten a "nice" death basically in episode 3. There is no reason why she would continue with Zac. She knows he's a psycho and why would she want him to run around outside? There is no reason to for her to care other than "it's a promise".

This whole things just is so forced. Maybe the source material is better but the anime is not good...

Worth Watching
ianmrocks19 August 2018
Angels of Death was the latest anime to fall victim to over-hyping and thus had it's IMDB rating tanked. Angels of Death is a mystery thriller anime full of enagmatic characters, gore and a decent amount of action. The show has a rather slow yet intriguing form of plot progression in which each episode leaves the viewer with more questions than it does answers. Despite the show only being 7 episodes in out of a total of 16; many have taken quick to this form of development as the show lacking substance and the characters being bland, when in reality it's infact the opposite. The show makes it's strong points from the questions it asks, and the mysteries driving the show, the characters are evolving with the questions, and as of episode 7 we are only now finally understanding who they are. I'd say give this show a watch as it's not even half way through and holds true potential to be something great.

Well...
orangejuice-816787 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Rachel switches from being very emotional to not emotional at all. Was she experiencing a glimpse of BPD or something? She was running from Zack trying to not get killed, then suddenly she wants him to kill her. Rachel runs weird. When Rachels dad punched his wife it looked so dumb. The killers "evil" laughs are so cringe. The police didn't manage to find all these killers in the same building on different floors in a long time, then at the end when Zack walks out the police are there. What gave the police a hint? Also, Zack was at the lowest floor if I'm remembering right. Couldn't he have just gotten out easily? In the flashback it shows Zack getting burned when he steps into the gasoline but he didn't have any bandages on the lower part of his legs? Wouldn't he need bandages on his lower legs too? At least Zack was good looking though.

Gripping Thriller
khankauser11 December 2018
This anime had me hooked from the very first episode. It was unpredictable as well as really hopeful you cant help but wish rachel and zack a better life their backgrounds they've come from had a major impact on their life. Perhaps rachel could be zacks guardian and saviour devoting her life to the promise she makes and him refusing to fulfill it.. who knows what to expect ... enjoy

Good beginning that leads to a drawn out predictable ending
icapra-802865 April 2021
The first 2-3 episodes are amazing and full of suspense. But after that its dragged on for too long. I sped up the OVAs to twice the speed just to get it over with because the ending was so predictable. I wasted my time watching this.

A true gem.
franchi00710 February 2021
What happens when the lives of two people from very different backgrounds intersect at a mutual desire? Something at once bizarre, touching and unforgettable. This is the story of those two lives, of a bond forged by a fragile obsession with death. Their relationship is unusual but inexpressibly heartrending and beautiful, and it will take up residence in a corner of your heart without permission, maybe forever.

Angels of Death is not as driven by events as it is by the moods it evokes, the strange and disorienting experience it provides to viewers. The graphics are immersive and haunting, the soundtrack evocative and poignant. It is devastatingly and terrifyingly beautiful, and will stay with you long after the end. (By the way, do yourself a favor and search up the OST on YouTube!)

In the first month or so after watching it, I simply thought of it as a "super weird but interesting show" and assumed I would not think about it much from then on. I was wrong. The protagonists began appearing again and again in my mind and grew on me more each time. I still do not understand why these two captivate me so much more than any other character, but one thing I can confidently say is that I have never seen anything like Angels of Death before and have yet to find anything like it since.

I should warn that this show will not appeal to everyone. It caters to a specific 'appetite' - the style is unsettling, surreal and has abstract elements that may require some thinking over. To some, it will be nothing more than 'edgy garbage.' But as for me, I have seen few titles with as meaningful of a story that is so brief and small-scale, few that manage to be such a visceral, alarming and sublimely dark experience that is set in a such a self-contained universe with a relatively simple storyline.

Great Anime
chrisnegaard24 March 2019
Warning: Spoilers
A lot of people are going to say that this anime sucks and it's to graphic, but first of all it's a horror anime based off of a horror game. It lived up to the greatness of the game in almost every way. People think the voiced are annoying but if you actually listen they are so perfect.

Twisted Madness!!
savanahcase17 August 2021
I wasn't sure I would like this anime after seeing it was rated a low 6.4? I thought it looked interesting so I gave it a chance. I was literally terrified after the first episode lol! But it had me hooked. The fear began to subside after the plot unfolded, but what a beautiful journey it was. Well a twisted murderous beauty. This is Deff the anime that like so many others I would say is so underrated! However, if you don't like dark suspense I get it. It also a dark unique love story in some ways. Anyway, 10/10 for me I loved Rachel and Zachs journey!

Graphics are Insane and is very Well-Written
schanzaysohail5 May 2021
I don't obsess over a show like this but WOW the graphic were really impressive for show that's made in 2018. I am such a big fan of Horror Anime an usually a lot of them lack plot, Character Development and backstories. But this anime it had everything i love it, i would re-watch this again without any hesitation. I binged it in a day, and it was so hard to get to of my chair to even get water because i was so so curious. The show just kept getting better, and i had a idea of what it would be like a game and Oh. My. God. This could be such a good video game i don't see another season coming out as i don't think there is anything else to the story but i would love something similar to this.
