Great start to a great show!
LorenBieg12 January 2019
We just finished Ep1.1 and are hooked! Smart and funny writing, great acting, and a universe in which everyone can just get over themselves and talk about sex as easily as they talk about school, work, the weather, whatever. If only we lived in this universe!

Gillian Anderson is effortless in her role as "mom the sex therapist". Adam the thug reminds us that even hooligans with enormous penises have feelings. And Otis is the high school virgin who draws the attention of the hot girl and doesn't want it. The character interplay is expertly drawn. Every scene proves it.

Watch and love!

Your words made him come

Maeve gives me a huge Margot Robbie vibe.

Jean is a very unique character and I honestly love her.

A little bit corny here and there but overall very well made.

Love the color and visual work here. Sets up the vibrant mood of the series. Excited to start on this series!

A perfect starting!

The humour worked out well, and it is maintained throughout the episode. Sexual insecurities of teenagers are portrayed well. The first episode is just awesome, and it tempts us to watch it further.

An Incredibly Promising Premiere
marchumim19 September 2021
I don't think I've seen a Netflix Original series premiere be so high quality since Stranger Things. Genuinely, this was pretty damn amazing.

The first thing I'm already on board with is how this show treats highschool. Yes, of course it's exaggerated, as all highschool shows are, but it treats the characters with respect. In many lesser shows (really anything on the CW), teens are sexualized, stripped of identity, and rely on tropes. But what I noticed in this premiere is how "unsexual" the sex is. Being a highschooler myself, I hardly know anything about real, genuine, adult relationships, but from what I know, this is as honest as it gets.

I am adoring the characters, and I love how we're already seeing some of the key dynamic relationships. Otis and Eric are both incredibly likable, and I hope we see their storylines progress, and not just drag like a lot of highschool shows do to keep the status quo.

I'm interested to see where this show goes, and if it can hold up to this standard of quality. Because wow, this was really enjoyable. Well-paced, never dragging, likable characters, and a premise that seems simplistic, but that has a lot of potential. Not to mention it was incredibly funny, which is something that a lot of coming-of-age-related "comedies" fail to do.

Can't wait to see where this goes.

An entertaining first episode; this series has a lot of promise
DVD_Connoisseur26 January 2020
Set in an England which seems to be a smorgasbord of time periods (1950's architecture, 1970's and '80's clothing and modern day smartphones), it took me a little while to orient myself in this show.

The first episode is a comic delight with many standout performances. Gillian Anderson is always extremely watchable but special mention must go to Asa Butterfield as the embarrassed sex therapist's son, Otis, and the beautiful Emma Mackey as the rebellious punkette Maeve.

8 out of 10.

A good starting for the series
sauravjoshi8514 December 2019
This is the first episode of the series Sex education and a good start.

The series should be given credit for its humorous writing and screenplay and also for purely depicting the sexual problem of school going teenagers.

Hoping for more good episodes.

A misleadingly silly or shallow start to a great series.
rjmhulst25 January 2019
This kick-off episode effectively introduces its main characters and its recurring theme for following episodes.

Otis and Maeve become 'business partners' in sex therapy, where they treat cases of teenagers at their school. Unfortunately, Adam's case appears silly or shallow: it leads you to believe following episodes won't be as heartfelt as they truly are!

No thank you!
MegaMaexn22 February 2019
Started to watch the first episode and quickly realised it is for 11-14 year olds, presumably the target audience of this programme, i.e. those who have rated this show surprisingly high. It is not for anyone over 17, so beware! Example quote: Do you have any any Nesquik? Feeble sex dialogues and pathetic jerk-off scenes - I am really not sure why I thought this would be worth watching, because of Gillian Anderson?!? Really, don't bother, there are tons of better (and funnier) shows out there...

Hesitant

Sex Education could be the sturdy tv show for teenagers but I've some doubts for mid ages. Unfortunately, I didn't hook it with the first episode despite smart and funny writing. Sexual desires and insecurities of teenagers are portrayed well.

A sex education
AvionPrince168 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I mean the episode was pretty interesting and it give directly the tone : we saw a man and a woman have sex and the man cant cum and fake it. That was pretty direct approach. We start to get introduced of the characters: Otis(a son of a sex therapist who cant masturbate) Eric(the gay friend), Maeve (a character who represent the woman and their sexuality i guess), Adam(the big dick guy who have problem to cum with his girlfriend), Dr Jean (the sex therapist who give some shame to her own son). Of course there are others but the main characters that we see are here. I need to say that was quite interesting and the way they talk about sex and they dont mess arround(we see dicks) was quite honest and a simple way to talk about it and i enjoyed the way they did it to be honest. The first episode was quite interesting and need to see the others now. Otis and Maeve are going to start a sex therapist business in school. Sound interesting.

Where was this filmed?
Disco-doc21 January 2019
Some of the imagery and school settings are so obviously American, notwithstanding a mainly British cast. Very few schools over here have a flag, and even one did, it would be heraldic in style and probably have some obscure Latin motto like 'Nil Sine Labore'.

The interior of the school looks like a set for a US teen movie... not the least bit believable.

As for the casting... wtaf? Some of the 'schoolchildren' are obviously well into their 20s.

The concept of the show is fine - but, dearie me, it is so badly let down by lack of attention to detail.

Had bigger expectations
ItsEmaBitch23 November 2021
Weird, a bit disgusting and confusing. Why is the interior of the houses, school and students outfit from (I'm guessing) '80s-'90s, but they have smartphones and are acting strangely appropriate for 21st century? Also, this is high school, I'm not comfortable with seeing them in this environment, being sexualised. I don't get it.
