Original take on a documentary
laduqesa20 January 2021
I didn't even know this film existed and certainly wasn't looking for it. I saw it on a site where it was available and clicked on. I wasn't expecting such an unconventional treatment of the subject.

Kaio has been a rent boy since he was fourteen. He is interviewed twice by the filmmaker once during his rent boy period and again after. These interviews are interspersed with short clips of other rent boys telling small portions of their stories in various countries (I noticed Romania and Morocco). Shockingly, some of these kids are prepubescent, one is with his father who offers him to a tourist.

The novelty here is that the interviewer has engaged Kaio for a sex session which they carry out after the question and answer segment. The sex is clearly unsimulated and is plainly glimpsed. It's not porn. The viewer knows what's going on and can see snatches of the action but the camera angle is such that it does not linger on the actual nitty gritty.

Kaio seems like a nice lad who enjoys his job. In fact, after the first coupling, he asks the interviewer if they can do it again. He appears bashful when asking for his fee.

The second interview takes place in an outside location where he explains that he has a new life and is studying. Will this attractive lad make it in his chosen field? The film leaves this open. Perhaps there will be a follow up.

This was nineteen minutes that I am glad I spent with these characters. I saw a documentary in an innovative format and learnt some things I didn't know about a lifestyle most people never envisage.
