Not That Bad
coex239 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This is more about Bruce Davis and his part as Manson's number two and possible berserker killer than it is about Manson. Sure, we get a lot of Manson audio tapes; but those only set the mood and offer nothing new.

Over all, this works out well after you read Tom O'Neill's new and fantastic book Chaos. There is a pretty strong case made for Davis being the murderer of at least 3 people after Manson is in jail. However, this is chock full of filler and could have been (should have been) tightly edited down to a svelt 80 or 90 minutes.

The Manson stuff gets in the way a lot, and little time is spent on defining/getting to know Davis. There's a few things that I learned and some new footage, etc. A lot of doors are opened and avenues shown, but we never go down those paths. The overall focus on finding Reet's killer ends up obscuring the fact that Davis probably killed many others; which focusing more on those could have filled this doc out nicely.

The ending was a total letdown! Yes, the researchers hunt down, find, and even speak to Clem Grogan (!!!)... absolutely nothing comes of it, and the audience sees nothing and hears little. Earlier, bones are found at Spahn, and revealed at the end to be human... but... that's it! No further research or conclusions.

This doc had a ton of promise, and a ton of data and leads that should be followed up on and concluded. A better book or another doc is probably on the way... one hopes.

Not that good.

Warning: Spoilers
This about trying to a solve a cold and attribute it to Manson. It plays out like those other shows where a camera crew follows detectives around investigating cold to prove or disproves someone's innocence. **Spoiler** The time line does not add up for this as Manson was already in jail by the time Reet Jurvetson was killed. During an interview with a childhood friend of Reet's the investigator is telling her friend details that she doesn't confirm or deny but acts as if it's news to her. It's almost as if her friend is told not to say anything. Then as a teaser, drug by Reet is brought up but Reet didn't have drugs in her system. All in all not worth watching as it's not about Manson but about Reet's murder. Like I said the people in this show are trying to Blame Manson but he and his cult was already in jail and no way could they have committed this crime.

Manson Speaks His Mind About An Unjust 'System'
IcyTones5 September 2020
Charles Manson is one of the more infamous of Madmen.

Most documentaries are loaded with bias - 'against' or 'in favour of'... The hype to prove Charles Manson a madman, coupled with the majority of material on CM, that is available for public viewing, is against him. The Title of this documentary speaks volumes as to which side of the fence it's on & that's without viewing its content.

It gets 10/10 for 'Interest'. Charles Manson is a fascinating subject and the documentary is interesting.

The general consensus is that CM is guilty as charged - fair enough or justice served - you might say, But should he be labelled a 'madman' is the same arguments put forward by a defence lawyer when other murders want to reduce their jail time & claim 'diminished responsibilities'.
