Another high class season, just WOW !!

I really could have never exepected after a n amazing first season that the searies will come back as strong as this ,

The plot just thickend and tangled itself all around fake pete who apperantly can't keep himself away from trouble , and by mid-season the real pete and his mother pops out of nowhere to add more tense and make the mess even messier.

The plot is still as strong as ever, the script writing is just unbelievable , Bryan Cranston, even though he didn't appear this season his touch on the script is so obvious and applaouse to the other two candian writers ;)

The cast were on point all along the season ,so engaging and suck you in to just feel all that tensions and thrill and sometimes makes you feel that anger and scare the character feels, it shows how briliant actors/actresses they all are.

Finally, looking at the final scene ,, things are getting more messy for sneaky pete in the next season espesially if he "really" got exposed for who he really is !! can't wait for another ten hours :D

Warning: Spoilers
A pretty decent finale here. They wrapped up the heist and all of the stuff with Lukka a bit too early though, which made for an uneven pacing.

They didn't really set up the following season well like they did in the season 1 ending, but that's fine.

An uneven season, but a good one and I am glad Marius sort of lost in the end. That needed to happen for the show to move forward.

My Ex-Boyfriend, What Is His Name???

Warning: Spoilers
So the final ep. Of S2 begins as basically 3 story arcs have to wrap up.

We start out with what appears to be Sam taking a bullet.....

And Luka heads to the casino.

So the buffalo is gone! The FBI chases! They find the truck, stop it, chainsaw open the buffalo! It's empty! No money!

Great work by Otto in the storage unit with Pete, Julia, Colin, and Hiyawatha. That was fun. +1 Star.

Then the clusterfrag that is Luka's betrayal scene. No scam is that foolproof. No way they could have predicted Frank would do what he did. -1 Star

And here comes the big explanation of how everything played out. So now they gotta explain all the subterfuge the writers put on everyone. It's actually pretty weak. I like how it played out, but it was also weak. +0

Then Gina finds the wrapper. Oh dear! Pete! Did you get played too??? And another one. No scam is that foolproof. Is Maggie really smarter than Pete?? +0.

And so what you get here at the end is an explanation of where the season succeeded and where it did not. And.... a visit from Julia to the parole officer to officially ask what her ex boyfriends name is, to set a scenario for Season 3?

I didn't find the Finale particularly that great. And poor Luka! 5/10.

Season Two Review
southdavid27 February 2024
I had always meant to carry on with "Sneaky Pete" having watched the first season, but for one reason or another I've left it a couple of years before carrying on with it. I enjoyed that first run and this second season is similarly good.

Having bluffed his way from under the clutches of Vince, Marius (Giovanni Ribisi) is immediately picked up by two thugs, who believe that Marius really is Pete (Ethan Embry). They're convinced that Pete actually did manage to come away from the gun range heist with a score that is currently in the possession of Pete's mother. Whilst they threaten the life of the Marius' adopted family, he tries to investigate who has hired the thugs, whilst simultaneously locating Pete's mother and keeping the family in the dark.

I said in my review of the first season that I wasn't sure how long the central theme of the show could remain convincing. By that, I mean that how long can Marius convince the family that he's Pete. This second season gets around that problem by only taking place over a few days, and by splitting up the family into various storylines, each with their own subterfuges taking place, so Marius isn't really with the bulk of his family all that much. Instead, he's away with Pete's mother, played by the ever-reliable Jane Adams in a sprawling con that begins with trying to survive the whims of another loose cannon Gangster and morphs into a "Ocean's Eleven" style heist with twists and counter twists.

Performances remain good and I think the story manages to, on the whole, remain on the right side of plausible. There are some elements of Margo Martindale's story that I'm less convinced about, but I'll not post them for fear of being too spoiler-y.

It's a shame that this never seemed to find the enough of an audience to run longer than the three seasons we got, as what we have had has been good stuff. One more season to go.

Poor finale
dierregi12 June 2023
There was just too much going on for a nice wrapping up. The secondary plots were intrusive and silly, especially the pregnant criminal escaping through the ventilation ducts... are those actually that big? Even a non-pregnant person would find it difficult to slither inside one of those... Whatever, I know that plot was needed to frame the contract killer, but it was pretty flimsy.

Audrey and grand-daughter fishing in NY was also a waste of time, but they must keep Carly doing something to keep the show moving forward and as a bite for younger audience.

The main plot was thoroughly unsatisfactory. The business with the bison was fishy form the start, but the resolution was even sillier. Impossible to understand why Maggie went through all the motions if she just wanted to give "the money back" to Luka. Also, how on earth she switched bills? That must have taken ages, from the not easy task of getting all the bills, to the wrapping them up. Moreover, the actress playing Maggie has a frozen expression, like a perpetual snigger that makes her annoying.

Finally, my pet peeve, the "talkative criminal" scene. Luka was not menacing enough, not for a moment I thought he was as bad as they tried to make him. I don't know what real criminals would do, but I doubt they would chat on and on just to give their victims the opportunity to escape their fate.

Badly written and generally poorly executed with the occasional moments of fun.
