La Llorona. The Weeping Woman. A horrifying apparition, caught between Heaven and Hell, trapped in a terrible fate sealed by her own hand. The mere mention of her name has struck terror around the world for generations. In life, she drowned her children in a jealous rage, throwing herself in the churning river after them as she wept in pain. Now her tears are eternal. They are lethal, and those who hear her death call in the night are doomed. La Llorona creeps in the shadows and preys on the children,...

Project screenplays still have to be read. Lent edge, however, by the presence of titles from nine women, including two of Catalonia’s most exciting young female cineasts, Meritxell Colell and Clara Roquet, the Forum competition will also welcome some of the producer movers and shakers on Ibero-America’s arthouse scene: Brazil’s Dezenove, Argentina’s Rei Cine and Varsovia Films, Spain’s Avalon and Lastor Media.
Add to that mix two players on three ever more ambitious film hubs – the Basque Country’s Gariza Films, Switzerland’s Matthias Huser and Moroco Alfredo Colman at Argentina second-city Cordoba – and...

While in San Diego covering all the 2018 Comic-Con festivities, Daily Dead had the opportunity to speak with both Linda Cardellini and Raymond Cruz, who recently collaborated on the upcoming New Line Cinema project, The Curse of La Llorona. Based on the Mexican folklore that has terrorized generations upon generations of naughty children who have grown up in fear of “The Weeping Woman,” La Llorona was directed by Michael Chaves and also co-stars Patricia Velasquez, Marisol Ramirez, and Sean Patrick Thomas.
During the interview, both Cruz and Cardellini discussed carrying the weight of the story of The Curse of La Llorona, collaborating with Chaves, and how the film may be set in the 1970s, but it still parallels a lot of current day issues as well.
Look for The Curse of La Llorona in theaters everywhere on April 19th, 2019.

On Wednesday, July 18th, New Line Cinema brought a few of the upcoming horror films on their slate to the 2018 San Diego Comic-Con for the Second Annual ScareDiego celebration, giving attendees some insights to a trio of terror-filled cinematic treats, including Andy Muschietti’s It Chapter Two, Corin Hardy’s The Nun, and The Curse of La Llorona from first-time feature filmmaker Michael Chaves. We also had the opportunity to hear from many of the creatives involved with The Nun and The Curse of La Llorona, both in front of, and behind, the camera.
Hosted by Rotten Tomatoes’ always entertaining Grae Drake, the night kicked off with an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the happenings on the set of It Chapter Two, where Muschietti promised us that he’s ready to scare the hell out of us with his sequel, and also showed us a few sketches of potential creature designs for the film.

The Warner Bros. label kicked off San Diego Comic-Con with its second annual Scare Diego, a panel so frightening a live cockroach skittered across the stage, terrifying both convention-goers and a horror mainstay, director James Wan.
New Line brought footage from three future films including “The Nun,” “The Curse of La Llorona,” and the film most fans were waiting with baited breath for, “It: Chapter Two.” Sadly, no one from the “It” sequel was in attendance at Comic-Con. However, a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the film’s current production was screened.
Returning director Andy Muschietti appeared on screen and dedicated a short reel of footage to the Scare Diego fanatics, promising that this film will be even more horrific than the last. “It’s gonna be scarier,” said Muschietti. “It’s gonna be a more intense experience, so bring your adult diapers to the theater.”

Last night New Line Cinema revealed a new horror film that they are currently shooting called The Curse of La Llorona and today we've got some details to share with you for it. This movie seems like it will be absolutely terrifying!
La Llorona is based on the real-life Latinx folklore of the ghost of a weeping woman who terrorizes as she attempts to take children and scares the shit out of anyone who gets in her way.
The film comes from producer James Wan, and it stars Linda Cardellini (Avengers: Age of Ultron), Patricia Velasquez (The Mummy), Sean Patrick Thomas (Barbershop: Back in Business) and Raymond Cruz (Better Call Saul). The story is set in 1970s Los Angeles and Cardellini plays a widowed social worker raising her two kids. As she investigates a case, she starts to find similarities between it and a supernatural entity that is her own family.

New Line Cinema didn’t come to Comic-Con to play. They came to terrify. On preview night of the fanboy/fangirl confab, New Line gave a hearty helping of scares at their second annual ScareDiego.
A whole army of New Line horror directors and actors were on hand for the presentation with James Wan, the mastermind behind The Conjuring cinematic universe, leading the charge. But it was the newly titled The Curse of La Llorona that stole the show for the night.
Directed by Michael Chaves and written by Mikki Daughtry and Tobias Iaconis, La Llorona is based on the real-life Latinx folklore of the ghost of a weeping woman who essentially terrorizes and attempts to take children and scares the hell out of anyone who comes in her way. Chaves was joined on stage by producer Wan as well as the film’s stars Linda Cardellini, Raymond Cruz, and Patricia Velasquez.
