GREAT IDEA but could have been better!
lyninbyron3 November 2019
I enjoyed the jokes, loved the deaf Ballarat woman the most, heard before but damn funny. It could have done without the last awful song choice that was completely at odds with the rest of the show. Also, we didn't need to see Shane's dad looking so sad and forlorn at the end and making his way home without anyone noticing, when it was all apparently put on for him. Then cut to everyone telling more jokes. Did I miss something or what. Make another one and finish with a bang and not a whimper please

An "I love you, Dad!" party with jokes and music.
graemegeohall25 December 2020
A heartwarming tribute from Shane Jacobsen to his dad. A stellar cast with great humour and awesome music. Distinctly Australian. I feel so sorry for joyless cynics who stoop to give it such scathing reviews.

Boring and uncomfortable
EmDee-427-46934425 December 2018
I sat down to watch this with my daughter thinking it would be funny, but she left after 2 minutes. It was boring, one forced joke after another with people who forgot what they were saying and looked uncomfortable. I felt uncomfortable for them (especially the female actress (not comedian) made to tell a joke about a penguin eating an ice cream. Really odd. There's no plot line other than telling one joke after another and most aren't funny despite the intent.

Fun movie

This doesn't pretend to be anything other than a couple of comedians, telling a few jokes by the campfire. I quite liked it, a good laugh, best watched after a few drinks.

Old tired celebrities tell boring jokes
vicarkell-2963610 April 2018
Warning: Spoilers
It felt like Shane Jacobson attempted to make an Australian equivalent of an American star-studded comedy. He gathered a odd collection of tired comedians together to tell very boring, predictable one-liners. The idea was so enticing but it was executed so poorly. Firstly the celebrities he used were so dolldrum the novelty wore off a lot quicker than it would have if this had been an American film. Secondly, the jokes were generational and lame. Thirdly, it didn't feel like any of the celebrities were honestly enjoying themselves. The atmosphere was one of being stuck at an awkward family reunion having to listen to your drunk uncle ramble on. The premise was to get "friends" (I use this term loosely- most of the celebrities seemed pained to be there) together to tell jokes- why did they all have to be propped up one liners? Why couldn't there be natural flowing conversation littered with witty observational humour and sarcasm? It felt so rehearsed and forced. Whilst the live music was entertaining the panning from joke to live music to joke to live music made me feel nauseated it was so repetitive. Probably the most tedious scene came at the end when the audience was forced to suffer through a show tune. Nothing says comedy more than a show tune right?

For Aussies Only - Loved It
lewcody25 December 2020
Enjoyable laughs and good music. The dad jokes with the 2 guys near the hay bales are classic. I grew up with most of these comedians and you can't help but laugh. If you don't you're taking life too seriously and you're not Australian and are under 55 years of age

That's Not A Movie
niaz_islam18 September 2020
This movie is a product placement bonanza. At most it was a feature length advertisement; nothing else.

This movie had no content, no purpose and moreover no script at all. There were only some people telling few old jokes which led to nowhere. These jokes are not original and in some cases it was not even funny. If they spend any money for any writer then it was a complete waste. People just highlighted themselves through jokes, forced laugh or music throughout the film. Some products were also shamelessly advertised, they didn't even try to be discreet about it.

It will be a total waste of time, time will be better utilized if one just browse the internet for read some jokes.

NOT RECOMMENDED.

Very funny and great music
birksdon3 April 2018
Just saw the rating in the newspaper this morning and thought it way off the mark of what the movie actually is, I was compelled to write what I found the movie to be. It's basically a movie of jokes and music it's very well done with a few of Australia's outstanding joke tellers and well know music identities. It's very Australian and might not work for you if not familiar with aussie. I was very entertained and will be watching it again.

Great Entertainment!
I was so glad I made the effort to see this film despite the awkward screening times over only four days at the cinemas. I found myself laughing out loud in the cinema at some of the jokes, as well as blown away by the superb musical performances captured live on stage. It's not a conventional movie, which is probably why some critics have been harsh, but if you want a dose of great entertainment then give this a try. Includes the best penguin joke ever.

Why so poor reviews
scholesy6531 March 2018
It's a film about people telling jokes and having a beer. Great light entertainment for a Sunday afternoon.

Really Enjoyable
laundrya23 March 2018
I've read a few reviews panning this movie and I am unable to agree with them. I found the movie very entertaining. The jokes were funny (and obviously the rest of the audience also thought so judging by the laughter) and the music was great. Sure it's not a deep movie and sure it doesn't have a hidden message. But it's just great entertainment. I'm looking forward to being able to purchase the DVD when it's released in May to enjoy the movie again.

A movie for Aussies!
mwchandler31 March 2018
This movie had me in hysterics! Had all the indredients of a typical back yard Aussie p*ss up. Mates. Family. Humour. Beer. Good music. Some of the jokes I've even heard from my dad, or my grandfather growing up. I'm so glad this movie was made. Massive thanks!
