I like everything here: Natalie, the video, the song - great effort

Warning: Spoilers
This is the music video for the Natalie Imbruglia song Torn. In my opinion, it is a bit of a classic and still very much worth listening to over 20 years later. Imbruglia was in her early 20s here and now she is in her mid-40s, but still looking pretty fine. But she was so cute back then, kinda surprising to see the guy in this video displaying no real interest in her anymore. The latter is played by Jeremy Sheffield and while he is not having a huge career, he stayed in the industry afterwards too. same goes for director Alison Maclean and this may perhaps still be her most notable achievement to date. It sure is for Imbruglia, she will always be linked to that song. Even people who weren't even born in 1997 know the tune and how catchy it is. But also how sad it is somewhat as we see a group of men emptying an apartment after the relationship has ended between these two. Still, there is a somewhat positive and uplifting vibe to it I must say. If something is broke, something new and beautiful can be created. I know it does not say that explicitly (or implicitly) in the lyrics, but Imbruglia's energy, especially the moment when she starts dancing out of nowhere, gave me that impression. And same goes for the constant movementt in the background here. I think they found the right mixture here in terms of scenes shared between her man and her, scenes on her own, scenes of her somewhat interacting with the packing crew etc. It is a really good outcome and it is really almostr impossible to criticize anything about this song and video. Maybe it feels really ireelevant to people who are single or have never had a partner or are just in a fulfilling relationship I don't know. But man I like it a lot still after all these years. Highly recommended. Everybody should have listened to this at least once and if you have, then it is unlikely you never want to again. Makes me a bit sad to see such quality music and music videos from back then compared to all the mediocrity (at best) that today's music-defining solo artists come up with. But hey you cannot really blame them for becoming famous. You should buy the fans who buy their soulless stuff. As for this one here, big thumbs-up and easily one of the best songs and music videos from 1997. Highly recommended.

Torn will tear you apart

Torn video is definitely odd, it's obviously green screen and forced, people walking in and out of focus. Crew are slowly dismantling what appears to be a set that Natalie isn't even dancing on.. But... take a minute and just listen to the song and think about where its coming from. It's the debut of a indie star with a low budget and a dream. Personally, this song hits me in my feels every time, no question. If it comes on the radio and I'm not in the mood, I have to change the channel or else be dragged into the depths of my emotions. One has to be appreciative of a song that endures time like torn.
