Full marks to director vandana kataria
beevenkat30 June 2019
The setting is a posh residential boys school. A play is about to be staged. The lead actor is a shy, innocent, young boy, who adores his male teacher. Since he prefers theater n nature to sports, his sexual orientation is often questioned. Hes regularly bullied by two other boys n one night, they brutally rape him. What happens thereafter? The climax will shock u. Full marks to director vandana kataria for crafting a delicate but horrifying film. #Noblemen boasts of good performances by the entire cast. Thanks to #PVRcinemas for screening this film. Do watch it. Rating 3.5/5.

High-school drama is brutally real
Tejas_Vinda_AITS2 July 2019
-------

*Noblemen Movie*,

directed by Vandana Kataria, is themed on William Shakespeare's tragic play The Merchant of Venice.

the story is a posh all-boys boarding school, Mount Noble High, ...Unlike its name, there is hardly anything 'noble' about this place.

A soft boy, Shay Sharma, is terrorized by a gang of bullies.

characters are brutally real, the ones that put you in an extremely uncomfortable space - you sympathize with the victims and u hate the culprits.

The director does not spare us the graphic violence either..!

The performances are top-notch ..., Ali Haji (Shay) makes u feel for him, Kunal Kapoor and Soni Razdan r good.

Noblemen, engaging for the most part, is not your regular masala entertainer., but its a hard, cruel, real, good cinema.

Worth a watch..

A film that will haunt you ...
jclapham-493869 April 2023
Watching this film took me back to my boarding school years in the 70.s in India on a hill station.

I was bullied a lot , for being fair, pretty...I relived my school days watching this..It was five years of hell...but I was good at sports.. We didn't have a teacher we could turn to that was kind..we lived in fear of them and the bullies...There were always threats to get your sister(in another school)for saying anything...We were 9 yrs old..there was sexual abuse, even by some teachers...we were thrashed and beaten up for no reason or something frivolous..This film has surfaced those scars again.. Watch this film as a Shakespeare film rather than expect a happy Bollywood ending where good scores over evil.. The good die and the tormented turn to becoming wicked .There is no justice.

To those suffering being bullied, defend your self somehow, seek help, speak to someone ..get out if you can...don't suffer in silence .. Don't scar yourself for life.. Watch this film and if you are bullying some one, recognise the damage you will cause ..you wouldn't want that to happen to you or your kids in the future.

The film is brilliantly acted and whilst I'm perplexed by the ending , I'm glad I came across it and watched it. Kunal Kapur shines and I wish We had such a teacher in my school days.

Horrible horrible movie
snigdha-dk5021 October 2019
The movie was as confused as its main character. The plot although aiming for realism was far from it. Everyone has a breaking point even if they're innately bad. I don't think it's a good idea to mix victimisation with psychopathy. I'm utterly horrified by the movie and the way it portrayed humanity. I don't believe humanity can be this shallow, this cold. Even if it is, I don't want to be blatantly exposed to me. I'm scared to bring children into this world if this is what it is like.

Sadist Losers trying to show the wrong way to victims
bensunthomas10 October 2019
My first review ever....cause this deserves it....such sadist movies should never be made or ever be seen.... I have been bullied but came out on the other side stronger....The message is so wrong and deserves to be deleted from existence...Telling victims to do even more wrong and becoming monsters they never wanted to be and completely disregarding options such as standing up for yourself or the support of a much needed friend. I hate everything about this movie and the people who were responsible for this movie are sadists themselves... Sheh! I only pray that all of the victims of bullying(never find this movie), find the strength and the right support to overcome one of their worst battles of their life. For battles are not fought with vengeance and animosity to a level of losing your soul, but as a necessity to stand up for oneself and finding it.

Painful story, left me reflecting on the ripple effect of social influence
carstenhaueter6 December 2020
This movie felt like a roller coaster of emotion, seeing the impact of bullying on the main character and his friends. Towards the middle, the main bully appears to have a change of demeanor, but after receiving a demoralizing call from his father, the bully acted out even more heinously.

This film was most painful in the final minutes and it left me feeling very sad. You observe the loss of innocence in the main character as well as the extremely poor decision making he exercises because he is so choked by fear.

While this movie was difficult to watch, I felt it was very well made. For example, this is the first movie review that I've ever done and likely the last. This movie was able to evoke very powerful, painful emotions in me. It left me feeling that all of our actions influence other people. It was painful for me to see the new headmaster as well, considering he had been part of the problem with perpetuating bullying. The world will be a better place and other peoples lives will be better, if we actively strive to love and show kindness and stand for truth. Hurting others and acting in selfishness damages others and can (in extreme situations like this movie) create monsters. This movie is a genuine tragedy.

Well, that was disappointing!
WVfilmfem30 October 2019
Very hard to watch the abuse of a student in the school, but further, the resolution. Honestly, didn't make much sense. Maybe supposed to show the fear of exposure of being gay? I don't know, honestly, but was disappointing.

Masterpiece
VishalGandhiii15 October 2019
The movie is as naked as the truth. Many people find this frustrating. It's not an inspirational movie it doesn't have any clear message. What it has is the depiction of irrationality how differently it molds and comes out in each character and the choice they make. From a viewers perspective, this may seem irritating and strange but if even gaze at the world around us we can see how common such irrationalities are.

Weak Character & Confusing Ending
kenbond-5380511 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This is one confused kid. Yes, he was tormented unmercifully by rich upperclassmen, but I don't know why he didn't finally reach his limit ; any sane person normally would. He had several chances to turn himself around, but he sadly just stood by like a petrified little girl, and in the final analysis, put to death his best defender. Sure, his tormentors were finally apprehended, but at such a horrific cost , all due to his weakness! Terribly weak main character!

I'm almost speechless... I have to agree with many of the other reviewers. I find it really difficult to find anything redeeming about this film. Do yourself a huge favour and avoid it.

Very good thriller.
vinerai15 October 2019
Very good film as i didnt feel the need to look at my phone at the same time. This is how i rate if a film is good or not. I felt the ending was a bit rushed, they should have refined the end story a bit. But it is worth watching as bullies unfortunately do exist in all spheres of life.

Great start, impressive story, the end ruins everything
markolindgren1 November 2020
I was positively surprised to see an Indian movie about this topic. The story developed well and was believable and touching. Unfortunately the last couple of minutes took me back to the 90s and ruined the good work done previously. Amazing how a good above average movie can fail in the literally last minute to a meager one star and no recommendation to watch. Such a shame.

Astoundedly thought provoking
adriaanvantonder15 December 2020
This is not the sort of movie I normally view, but being requested to do so, I am totally astounded, my head spinning to comprehend the enormity of man's deprivation. A brilliant background setting in the Christian school (thus grace and love expected to abound): a clever plot built around "The Merchant of Venice" (provided you already know the play) where I find it interesting that the words: "pound of flesh" (Act 4 Scene 1) never surfaced (I hope I did not missed it) but was always hovering in my mind; a modern situation saturated with potential well-known conflict: personal and interpersonal and intra-personal, which erupted from time tot time without any redemption at all (thus contradicting the background and the plot-story). To say I enjoyed the movie would be false, to say that I appreciate it addressing various contentious and contemporary issues, is absolutely correct. Therefor my 8 for this movie.

Stupid, Shallow and Ridiculous
neilmacernie15 September 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The storyline conveniently puts situations in place that just shouldn't happen. A school with a growing bullying problem that the headmaster is concerned about, but doesn't take any measures to correct except to punish all the students unless one speaks up. A kid goes to the nurse after being raped and her diagnosis is a fever. A mom who supposedly knows her son, but disregards signs he is messed up. A teacher is accused of child molestation and he is allowed to quite without any investigation. Friends with supposedly good hearts caught the tale-end of their friend drowning someone and do nothing. And it just keeps going on. All this to make a point about monsters creating monsters?

NOT A REVIEW
kailaskishore-0473630 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Not a review but more like a response to all the hate this movie is getting.

I get why this wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea, but it's really not horrible.

1. The Main Character- Possibly what confused a lot of people. I agree, the main character is confusing. But that's just how a person in that scenario would be in real life. He's a fifteen year old kid who's determined to remain in the play as it's a huge opportunity for him, but at the same time, he's being bullied brutally. He's torn between two sides.

2. Killing of the teacher- That's the ending. The killing isn't pointless. If the teacher was alive, the bullies wouldn't have to face harsh consequences. It's only because of his death that they got charged with murder. Also, it's a disturbing ending. Not horrible.

3. The TONE- It's a dark movie. Deal with it. Not every boarding school movie has to be about crushing on students and winning a race. It's grounded to reality. It's about bullying. It's disturbing. There's this one review which called this movie sadist. Sorry to say, not every dark movie is 'sadist'.

Waste of Plot
spartha-236626 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The bullying part though horrific, genuinely made me scared. They hinted at the main bullying having a slight indication of being gay himself. However, they developed all characters in the most disastrous ways. Half way through the story, Arjun gave an half-assed apology to Shay. Since he is the "Alpha", the story could have gone down the road of apology. Arjun could have started having more feelings for Shay (Or, being gay in general) and face the same things that Shay did when he tries to confront it himself. Yes, it will be outrageous for Shay to accept his feelings at this point as Arjun tried to bully his best friend to suicide and killed his Pet Sparrow (Which are the worst things to do). They could have done the "Silent Voice" style where the main idea is about redemption and empathy. But, in this film, the villains don't learn anything are 1 dimensional cardboard boxes whose only role is to be selfish. Yes, there are people in real life who are this bad and it's good to create discussion about it. But, it's the miss opportunities that make me mad. I just think the "bullies side" of the story is missed out. They don't need to justify the actions. They need to show how they became bullies (Arjun's father's expectations was show- they could have expanded on this more as toxic behaviours aren't just born in thin air). This could have shown to the audience that it is the up-brining or influence that leads people to go through the wrong path. They could have explored the source of this homophobia and why they are bullies. This would show the audience that what kind of thought process creates bullies, instead of just showing the bullying.

Talking about cardboard boxes for characters, we get to the main character. I did genuinely liked the MC when he shows empathy for Ganzu and talked with Pia as well as the teacher. But, then in the second half of the film, as other reviewers said, he became as bad as the villains. Firstly, he didn't have to kill the teacher for the villains to be jailed; the teacher and Shay can testify with many of the students who can speak up because they have also suffered through the Tyrants (As they clear don't like them- the film shows moments after the death of the bird and Arjun's apology where they showed hatred against Arjun's group's actions). Also, by killing the teacher, THE MAIN CHARACTER WHO WE ARE SUPPOSED TO SYMPATHISE WITH DOES SOMETHING WORSE THAN VILLAINS- you can't justify murder by "Oh, I've been through godly awful things so I must kill you now." Especially, the person who defends you the most, by risking his life to avenge Shay (But, the teacher should have taken a more mature step by Reporting the case instead of charging at the villains like a lunatic). Nobody in this film takes any sensible actions, the silence against bullying is more justified because they may be put through worse bullying, but this murder nonsense is worse than what all the villains did. If they did want to put murder, then Shay killing the bullies in a flurry of emotion makes a lot more sense. Secondly, the film did the awfullest job convincing me that Shay couldn't complain and not get Arjun's group jailed. Shay could have easily gotten a lot of evidence against them by revealing the villains as the bullies and gotten support from Pia.

The main problem that I have with the film is that it does a bad job with handling the villains. Yes, they want to show what gay people have to fight with. But, why queer code the main villain if they aren't going to do anything interesting with it? Why kill the teacher? Why? What is the point of doing a dark "Enlightening" film if the ethics are all over the place. What is the point of showing disturbing bullying without showing why it starts in the first place.

It's at least trying to speak up against the topics such as bullying and rape. These are good things.

Bad and Good at the same time.
reazrahmanxd14 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I enjoyed this as a movie but on the other hand it delivers the wrong message to the actual victims of bullying. The age of school/high school students is very low, if they take this movie seriously then it may create more instability in our society. Dont be ashamed to speak out. Dont falsely accuse someone. I wont recommed this to someone who is going through bullying. It is not a motivational or inspirational movie. Otherwise It is a great movie. I enjoyed because I know the difference between what is wrong and what is right, So, I took it fictionally. Many young students takes movie seriously. So, It may deliver the wrong message to them.

BE BRAVE! DON'T BE SCARED TO ANYONE EXCEPT GOD! SPEAK OUT! #TruthWillAlwaysPrevail

Horrible Ending
kschles-6790517 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I was enjoying most of the movie, until it spiraled down an inexplicable rabbit whole. The main character was likable, sweet, and scared. He was bullied by some classmates, and trying to deal with his same sex attraction. The chief bully was over the top in his cruelty and mood swings. Still, the movie was interesting.

Suddenly, the main character's actions became too strange to believe. The script writing was really terrible. First he made up a story about being molested by his favorite teacher, who had been nothing but supportive, if a little overbearing. From bad to worse, when he ended up murdering said teacher for no logical reason. As he pushed and held his injured teacher's head under water, he kept repeating that he had no choice. Spare me.

Khan Review
zkzuber10 July 2021
Disgusting! I don't understand the mental state of the maker. A reputed boarding management is so weak that they unaware of happenings in their own school premises drugs are circulated, kids are rigged, physicaly and sexually abused and no one knows it. Instead of feeling sorry for the kid you start hating him for being so dumb he has a understanding mother, he is from well to do family, has good friends and liked by his teachers but he is so dumb not to complain even after getting raoed he is so dumb and weak , so frightened as if he is not in school but in some kind of underworld gang what nonsense was this. On top of it he for no reason kills his teacher a guy who is so weak not to complain after repeatedly being harassed but kills his teacher who was supportive and could have helped him in the beginning itself. Don't Dont watch this filth.
