In May 1988, Brenda DuPont is found murdered in her home in the heart of Cajun country, Opelousas, Louisiana. Her younger sister, Linda Nicholas, lived next door to Brenda. It was a brutal murder, involving rape and stabbing. Detectives worked tirelessly on the case, including Jude Victorian of the Opelousas Police Department, but could not find the assailant. Solving murders by using DNA was in its infancy, but the evidence technicians collected all the forensic evidence available. The case went cold for nearly 30 years, when the CODIS system got a "hit" on the killer's DNA profile in 2012. In January 2016, the suspect's trial began and Joenell Rubin was found guilty of murder and sentenced to life in prison.

New York: In a city of eight million, landlord Bruce Blackwood, age 55, disappeared without a trace on March 6, 2006. Also on this same day, Bruce Blackwood had confronted tenant Luis Perez about stealing $7,700 from him and tried to evict Luis Perez from his 983 Hancock Street apartment. Though there was no body, the NYPD was sure this was a homicide and, along with Bruce's brother Ed, they spent the next nine years searching for answers and a killer. In 2014, Perez was arrested for the murder and dismemberment of Blackwood. He was convicted of murder and was given a sentence of 25 years to life in prison.

Lori Nesson's nude body was found September 28, 1974 in a roadside ditch on Rosehill Road in Reynoldsburg, Ohio. Nesson, age 15, was a sophomore at Eastmoor High School. She lived with her mother on the East Side of Columbus. She had left a party 13 hours earlier on September 27 on Harding Road, five miles from where her body was discovered. Decades after Lori was murdered, the local news ran a story. A call from a viewer solved the case.

On January 29, 1995, a 30-year-old mother, Lisa Marto Gaudenzi, fails to report for Army duty in Virginia. The U.S. Army lists her as AWOL. Lisa's family members immediately suspect foul play and they begin a 13-year quest for answers before an eyewitness blows the case wide open. The murderer turns out to be the man that Lisa's family suspected all along, Lisa's husband Lawrence Gaudenzi, who has also gone by the alias Randy Lee Evans. At the time of Lisa's disappearance, law enforcement accepted Gaudenzi's story about the last time he had seen Lisa. When the case is picked up again and worked as a cold case, law enforcement discovers numerous lies that had been told by Gaudenzi. Gaudenzi is arrested and on the second day of his trial, he accepted a plea in exchange for information about his former wife's death. Gaudenzi was sentenced to 25 years behind bars.
