Man is this series a breathe of groovy fresh breathe. Simply consistent from the start until opening ep of season 3. Your getting exactly what you want from a series like this without a drop in quality. I personally think this season written the right way will be the beast of the 3 so far. And i hope they give it 5 seasons and end it really well. It doesnt need to drag on longer than 5 tho. Its the perfect amount of time to explore everything evil dead has to offer. and then frankly the franchise should probably end. Bruce is getting close to the point where he cant do the action scenes upto scratch and it will soon become a little weird if he gets too old and they keep piling on more makeup. And they frankly can never, never replace him imo. And the new non comedy evil dead movie was fine, but not evil dead. It was its own movie pretty much. And as a campy horror comedy of the 80's. Nothing will ever top Bruce and his performance in the evil dead series . Period

I love this show so much!! Seasons 3 is going to be quite incredible! Bruce Campbell and crew bring the Ash Vs Evil Dead universe to life and are totally feeling the characters. Can't wait for the rest of the season. My favorite show ever!!

A fine start to the final season.
BA_Harrison3 February 2019
Season three kicks off in fine style with Family, in which Ash is reunited with his wife (the marriage a drug fuelled event that he has little recollection of) and discovers that he has a teenage daughter named Brandy (Arielle Carver-O'Neill), the result of their post-nuptial coupling.

As if that wasn't enough, it appears that Brandy is in danger: evil has been reawakened and is prowling the corridors of her high school. Ash must go to the rescue, with help from Pablo.

It takes a little while to get going, with the introduction of new characters and the basic set-up of the story, but once Ash arrives at Brandy's school, the fun really begins: Ash does battle with possessed musical instruments controlled by Brandy's deadite friend, which is hilarious (especially the drumstick attack), his wife is decapitated by a cymbal, and Ash kills the deadite by cutting her head into slices with a harp (silly, but very juicy!).

Ash is also attacked by a demonic school mascot. Pablo lends a hand, but it is Kelly who saves the day, turning up to blast the cougar's head off.

Great start

The deadites ass kickers are back! Ash is managing a store, Pablo is, well, living his dream, Kelly is a bartender sort of. We know it's just a matter of time before they get back to slashing deadites. The necronomicon is back at play, but seriously they couldn't come up with a creative way other than "I found it laying on the ground?" Anyways, someone read it and the evil is back, and so is Ruby, only now she has a grand plan? No I don't think so, doesn't this seem like a rehash of the previous seasons? Giving birth to creepy kids, doesn't that ring a bell?. However, majority of the episode focuses on the discovery that Ash has an illegitimate daughter he never knew about, Brandy. Who would be surprised? I am not! and neither was Kelly. It makes for a drama. The action in this episode is pretty exciting. It takes place in a music room. I love how they take advantage of the equipments available in the room to make the fight kinda funny. Cymbals slicing head, drumsticks, guitar, piano, trumpet and even harp are used to great effects. The gore effects are more gorier than ever. Overall, a great opening episode for s3 that leaves you wanting more.

Warning: Spoilers
There are a couple of gimmicks that I need to stay far away from my beloved franchises. I'm not a fan of the "parent coming back and tries to kill their children" thing that they've done in a lot of properties (most notably "24"; "Star Wars" is obviously an exception because it's legendary and awesome), and the "long lost child" that suddenly gets introduced in the later seasons of a show. It's gimmicky and only there to create new conflict for our lead character, and most of the time it doesn't amount to anything. They did the douchy parent trope in the previous season, but that worked for me, so maybe this is also going to work. I'm certainly not going to be prematurely mad about it before I've actually seen what they decide to do with it. For now, I'm going to bury my preconceived notions and see what happens; this show has found ways to make every decision they've made so far work, so I'm not going to doubt that this is going to lead to magic down the line. And if it doesn't, I'm probably still going to love what they do with her and the show. This opener for the third season may actually be the best one so far. While it's not as emotionally satisfying as the premiere episode, it continues off of the good will that the show has garnered so far and brings us a bloody return to Elk Grove and the heroes that we know and love.

The opening of this episode was pretty hilarious. The idea of Ash Williams opening a hardware store seems too perfect to actually be something that happens, but these writers are good at grabbing an opportunity and running with it. Whether or not we're actually going to see any more of it going forward is up for debate, but the simple idea of Ash owning his own store almost nourishes the ego that has only grown larger and larger as the seasons have progressed. We seem to have reached peak narcissistic Ash, but as usual, we can't help but love him.

So, I mentioned the whole lost daughter trope in the beginning, and I'm still a little skeptical about introducing a character like that, mostly because it seems to contradict with a lot of Ash's character to even be anything that resembles a father. However, I already like the dynamic between the two, and despite it being very antagonistic at the moment, that'll no doubt change as the season goes on. If it can end up becoming organic and make sense, I'll eat my words and once again proclaim this show as one of the best of its genre on TV.

They definitely haven't lost their creativity. Earlier this summer, we saw Sam Raimi utilize music as a weapon in his "Doctor Strange" film, so it seems perfect that I would stumble over these episodes now, as musical instruments were turned into lethal weapons. I don't think I ever thought that seeing someone being beheaded with a hi-hat would be so satisfying, but funnily enough, it was very cathartic. Will this happen again? I doubt it, but I also know that they'll find other ways to keep unfolding themselves creatively and will maybe even go beyond this awesome method of killing.

Another thing that I'm a little worried about but will leave at the door is the return of Ruby. She's now been the antagonist for two seasons (in the previous one, she served most of a protagonistic role), and I don't know if there's a lot more to this character to explore. I love Lucy Lawless, and I'm never going to complain about having her on the show, but I'm worried about them keeping her around for too long, simply because they love Lawless as well. But, again, I'll wait before I pass judgment. She probably hasn't even peaked yet.

With "Family," this show starts up the engines again and drives towards their most ambitious season yet, with results that we'll have to wait for. There's a lot to be desired, and they show that they're able to still unfold the universe in a fascinating way, but let's see if they can keep it going.

Creative set-piece

Warning: Spoilers
The season three opener opens up the story a little by once again introducing a new character; instead of Ash's father we here meet a former partner and a teenage daughter Ash never knew he had. It's acceptable enough, notable for a creative demon set-piece in a room filled with musical instruments, and the gore is decent.

I said a hint!
Season 3 of "Ash vs Evil Dead" starts with a wimp, with little of interest happening and situations that repeat and rehash moments from the movies and the first two seasons. It feels as if the show, sadly, has run out of steam. Which is a pity, because Bruce Campbell and Ash should be fun to be with. Let's see if the next episodes improve on this weak, humorless first.

Quit adding characters
rorygunn26 February 2018
Warning: Spoilers
The show is called ASHvsThe Evil Dead. Not useless sidekicks that I don't care about with side stories that I don't carer about. It's bad enough that Ash has two sidekicks that should've been killed off early but now we get some guy who worships Ash as the Chosen one and not only that Ash has a daughter..Really?The thing about the Evil dead movies was that even though Ash may have had help in the end it was always him alone versus the Deadites..He's the one we want to see.Not these other characters that have no use what so ever! And I know Lucy Lawless is married to Rob Tapert and they HAVE to put her in the show but couldn't they give her something better to do.I think people were so hungry for anything Ash and Evil Dead related that they blindly accepted this show.Including me at first but now I think I'll check out Stan Against Evil instead.

This show has jumped the deadite

What was utterly brilliant and delightful TV in season one was already feeling a little tired by the end of season two. But now?? Now it is effectively the same episode over and over again. Nothing actually happens any more. It's great watching Bruce bash out one liners but they are the same one liners, in the same circumstances.

The cast all just seems tired and bored with being in the show now. They are repeating the same dialogue, about the same plot points, with the same SFX and the same story. You can see they have this moment in their delivery of their lines like "Wait...didn't I just say this two eps ago?"

YES. Yes you did. Now that they have completely squeezed the life and humour out of this, they have jammed in a couple of pointless new characters too. The first two eps of this season are enough to convince me I have seen everything good that they can do with this show. It is done now. There is nothing left to reveal, nowhere left to go and nothing we haven't heard Ash say, repeatedly.

If you are wondering whether or not to watch this show, I highly recommend you start with Army of Darkness, then watch Season 1 and call it a day. Don't bother with S03. The dead may have risen again, but they have nothing new to say.
