Excellent costumes and sets. Like the whole moodiness. Best part is that this shows manages to keep the plot going and compelling and not trying to hammer home the depressing nature of the show.

I like the movie "From Hell (2001)"
Dark, greed, serial killer, wet street, gas light, mean street, murder under the candle light with dim smoke.
this is pretty joyfulness for loving strong traditional hard core thriller mania after met so long term pass.

Strong Leads but a very slow start.

The Alienist season premier did not impress me as much as I thought it was going to be. It does have three strong talented leads with Daniel Bruhl playing a criminal psychologist, Luke Evans playing John Moore, and Dakota Fanning as Sara. Seeing the three on screen was good. It does have some good set design, costumes, and even Rupert Gregson-Williams music score tried setting the eerie tone of the 1890s era.
The follows a boy prostitute being grisly murdered that captured the attention of Dr. Lazlo, a criminal psychologist. Who ll need John Moore's talented illustration to help solve this murder.
What I did not like about this episode is it is very slow moving. The direction is quite dull and boring. These three characters are going from one set to another trying to solve this murder and who could have done it with there sadistic mind on murdering a boy. Dr. Lazlo spends this episode investigating on skeletal remains on one victim and following up on another accused murderer, who is mentally unstable. Sara spends most of her screen being harassed by the officers in police headquarters, and John spends most of the time by Lazlo side if not he is at a brothel or feeling disturbed after seeing the victims body. But after watching this, nothing really happened throughout.
Overall, The Alienist episode 1 was dull and boring. I am not sure if I will continue to see the rest of the series and see if it picks up. I rate the first episode 2 and half stars out of 5.
