Good fun
Despite revolving around a certain formula and similar basic structure, 'Phineas and Ferb' is still to me a great show and had enough variety to stop it from being repetitive. The earlier seasons are better, funnier and more creative than the later ones, but even when the show was not at its very best it was so much better than most shows airing on the Disney Channel. During its entire run, 'Phineas and Ferb' was one of the channel's few winners in a period where it was going downhill.
The show has had better episodes than "The Doonkelberry Imperative" and "Buford Confidential". They are still very well done indeed, both of them, and always have been on all my viewings of them. Always done back to back, have always viewed 'Phineas and Ferb' as two episodes per sitting as that how when the show was first airing and when it grew in popularity and always paired as listed here. Often there are instances where one episode is better than the other, in this case there is a preference for "The Doonkelberry Imperative".
"Buford Confidential" is good fun still and really liked the nostalgic setting and the role of the Fireside Girls. Did feel though that the humour didn't always work and Buford's plan and the consequences came over as a little mean spirited.
A lot is done incredibly well. The Phineas and Ferb subplot works a lot better, formula driven but with enough invention to avoid it feeling repetitive. Do prefer it a little over the still hugely entertaining one in "The Doonkelberry Imperative". For that episode it is at its best with the Perry and Doofenschmirtz subplot, can never get enough of those two together and both are such great characters, while slowing down a little too much with Candace in a plot line that has very little freshness. The Perry and Doofenschmirtz subplot in "Buford Confidential" is wonderfully nuts, likewise with Doofenschmirtz.
The animation is still wonderfully vibrant with very rich attention to detail. The music is dynamic with the action and the theme song is insanely catchy with very clever and quotable lyrics that anybody still in school fishing for how to spend their vacation will relate to. The characters and voice acting are on point, as is much of the writing, which is mostly very smart and witty.
Overall, very nicely done. 8/10.
