Sulieman's Back Story
nammage31 August 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Not as good as the previous episode. Seemed as another 'bridge' episode: quiet and uneventful but for one part. In this episode we learn more about Sulieman's past. Apparently being bullied by non-whites is enough for his character (or an implication of all Muslims) to destroy all Westerners, or some trite such as that. I think they could have done better than that for the Suleiman character. It's not like he's an unintelligent buffoon, or something. He's quite intelligent even if he allows his emotions to get the better of him (like with his brother and his wife and daughters.)

The Air Force drone pilot is back in this episode; I kind of wonder where they're going with his character. Is his subplot going to connect to the main plot or is it just there to past time? So far it just seems there to pass time. Perhaps, in the end, he's the one that takes out Sulieman. Just a theory, at this point. Of course his character seems to be on the brink of suicide, or something and if that's the case: what a waste of a character and subplot.

Overall, a good episode but not a great episode.

"I Just Want to Keep it Casual"
lavatch15 September 2018
Warning: Spoilers
The only light moment in this episode is when Dr. Cathy tells Jack over a romantic dinner, "I just want to keep it casual." But she has no clue just how difficult that will be, given the circumstances of Jack's work that she knows nothing about!

Suleiman, the mastermind of the Paris cathedral massacre that took over 300 lives, takes credit for the attack via video and proclaims, "Paris was only the beginning." Meanwhile, in Nizip, Turkey, Hanin desperately seeks a visa to Europe. When she is denied the visa, she goes to the black market to pay for transportation out of the camp and immigration to Europe. By now, Jack and the authorities in Langley are aware of a woman claiming to be the wife of Suleiman, but they are not certain if her story is credible.

Back in Al Mnajeer, Syria, Suleiman counsels the slovenly Ismail to bathe. He was one of the men of Al-Radwan, prior to Suleiman's power play. Suleiman now gives the man fresh clothes. Suleiman also talks with Dr. Daniel Nadler, who recognizes that he may be able to help Suleiman's diabetic son.

This episodes includes three flashbacks that give the background on Suleiman's years in Paris in 2001-2. That period includes a humiliating experience where he is rejected for a job interview as a computer expert. We also learn that Suleiman was arrested in order that Ali would not be caught with a revolver, when the two men were stopped by the French police. Suleiman's time in prison has led to a complete transformation as he has seen the beauty of God and recognizes his future calling. He tells his brother that he has found "the way."

In Las Vegas, Victor has been given ten days leave to "decompress" after the anxiety he has experienced when he learned that he killed an innocent man who had been misidentified. To his colleague Ava, Victor asserts that he feels that in their trailer, he is playing real life video games, instead of having the career of a pilot for which he dreamed.

The video game image is a perfect segue to the scene where Jack has coordinated a system of getting in touch with Suleiman wherein he will impersonate the dead brother through the video game mode of communications. But the wily Suleiman figures out that he is not talking with his brother, but with the analyst he met in Syria. Still, Jack cleverly discovers that Suleiman is aware that Hanin has left him. Thus, the woman in the Turkish refugee camp is indeed his wife. At that exact moment, Hanin and her daughters are leaving the camp in the truck secretly transports select refugees.

End of Honor
bobcobb3019 September 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This show is not pulling any punches in depicting just how tough the situation in the Middle East and how complex it is.

The big action moment with the video game chat wasn't as good as we have seen in some past episodes, but still gripping.

Gripping!

Warning: Spoilers
This show just keeps getting better - ep 5 is the best of a very strong 5 eps so far. Particularly loved the drone pilot stuff & the Jack Ryan / Mousa S messaging scene over the game console! The wife on the run subplot is great too!

Great start but then...

Warning: Spoilers
The story of an analyst working for cia finding himself in extraordinary situations above his capabilities. At least we thought that was the level of his capabilities. In each season you are narrated with a different storyline. Good production, nicely serving to the patriotic feelings of good citizens of the US. When it comes to my personal commenting, it started as an intriguing show, nice flow of actions, structured background stories. However season by season the main character turned into something that marvel would does. An invincible man against all odds. Lost me and not following anymore.

Middling
Leofwine_draca21 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
A middling episode, a little better than the previous, but still without much in the way of interest. The attack investigation is solid stuff as is the hunting of the Islamists via the video game, but the rest is merely so-so and the relationship stuff still feels extraneous at this point in.

Excuses, excuses
dierregi20 July 2023
I had some pretty bad interviews with arrogant people who looked down on me, because I did not fit the profile 100%. That happens for many reasons, being you background, appearance, sex (yes, I am female, so I had my share of discrimination). Does it mean that I am entitled to create a terrorist cell? I also had friends smoking joints and some even tried hard drugs, to which the law objects regardless of your religion.

The point is that life is tough for everyone and I am kind of fed up of all the excuses provided to people who commit atrocities. Also, not much happens in this episode, apart from establishing that Suleiman might have a point. The Jack/Doc romance feels forced, too.
