Quotes

  • Amanda Rollins : So, I've been taking a look at the security footage from the rink. Look. Here are players leaving the locker room, right? Most exit at the same time. But this is the last kid before... look; these two. Numbers 26 and 9. And they're hauling ass, too. It's ten seconds before our victim, Jack, comes out.

Odafin Tutuola : How can you tell that's him? You can't make out his face.

Amanda Rollins : Look. Look there, the sleeve. You see that? Number 14. That's Jack's number.

Olivia Benson : Who are these two kids that came out before him?

Dominick Carisi Jr. : [looking at the team roster]  Number 9, William Harris. Number 26, Timothy Brown. The Bash Brothers.

Olivia Benson : Okay. Bring 'em in. This wasn't a couple of kids playing grab-ass. We need answers.

  • Amanda Rollins : Hey. How'd arraignment go?

Dominick Carisi Jr. : Released into his parents' custody.

    Amanda Rollins : Hmm.

Dominick Carisi Jr. : I spoke to a lawyer at Corporation Counsel. She said she's getting a lot of pressure from upstairs to try Kyle as an adult.

Amanda Rollins : I thought we were just using that as a ploy. He's just a kid.

Dominick Carisi Jr. : There's been a lot more hazing incidents lately and they wanna make an example.

Amanda Rollins : I know he's our perp, but... the kid's a victim, too. There's no doubt that father's doing a number on him, and the mother, too.

Dominick Carisi Jr. : The mother?

Amanda Rollins : Yeah. What, she just sits there and watches it all happen, stands by silently? That's abuse.

Dominick Carisi Jr. : I get what you're saying, but it's... it's not that simple.

Amanda Rollins : Yeah, it is. Somebody lays a hand on Jesse, I'm gonna have something to say about, I guarantee it.

Dominick Carisi Jr. : Hold on. So this woman Helen, you don't think that she's a victim, to? You think her husband's sending her roses every day?

Amanda Rollins : Oh, come on.

Dominick Carisi Jr. : Well, it's not just about the physical abuse; it's the shame of it.

Amanda Rollins : I know that! And that's... that's why bullies keep getting away with being bullies.

Dominick Carisi Jr. : [his phone buzzes]  You're missing my point.

Amanda Rollins : I'm not. I'm hearing what you...

Dominick Carisi Jr. : [holding up his finger to silence her, he answers the call]  Hey, lieutenant. All right, I'll meet you down there.

    [hanging up]

Dominick Carisi Jr. : I gotta go meet Liv at the hospital, talk to Jack and his parents again.

[he starts to leave, then turns back]

Dominick Carisi Jr. : All I'm saying is that sometimes it's not as easy as you think to be a hero.

  • Dominick Carisi Jr. : Rollins, we gotta go.

Amanda Rollins : What's going on?

Dominick Carisi Jr. : Jim Turner just beat the hell out of Adam.

  • Odafin Tutuola : Nice story, man. I didn't know you were so quick on your feet.

Dominick Carisi Jr. : You gotta do what you gotta do, right?

    Odafin Tutuola : That's right.

Amanda Rollins : You didn't make that up, though, did you? That really happened to you, didn't it?

  • Coach Gordon Sheen : Poor kid. I hope he's gonna be okay.

Amanda Rollins : Well, he's recovering. It's a serious injury.

Coach Gordon Sheen : What makes you think it was one of my players? Could it have been someone from the Squalls or a Whitecaps player in a different division?

    Odafin Tutuola : Division?

Coach Gordon Sheen : Yeah, there are ten Whitecaps squads, separated by age and skill level. Mites, squirts, peewee.

Amanda Rollins : Okay, but right now we need to focus on your kids.

Coach Gordon Sheen : Sure, but I mean, we compete for the New York State Championship every year.

    Odafin Tutuola : So?

Coach Gordon Sheen : So none of my boys would jeopardize that by doing something this stupid.

  • Amanda Rollins : Kyle Turner?

    Kyle Turner : Yeah.

Adam Turner : Who are they?

Helen Turner : Adam, take Mark upstairs and call your father. What is this about?

Amanda Rollins : We need to talk to your son down at the precinct.

Dominick Carisi Jr. : And we're gonna need his hockey sticks. All of them.

    Helen Turner : What? Why?

Dominick Carisi Jr. : Because he's under investigation for sexually assaulting his teammate.

  • Olivia Benson : The lab ran the hockey sticks. They're all clean. There's no blood, there's no DNA. So Kyle must have gotten rid of the one he used after he saw us at the hospital.

Amanda Rollins : So we don't have enough to hold him.

Olivia Benson : No, but we have Jack. You and Fin go to the hospital first thing in the morning and get him to tell you who attacked him.

  • Amanda Rollins : So, Jack, we talked to Timmy and Will and they told us what really happened.

Odafin Tutuola : We just need to hear it from you.

Jack Wilson : I don't know what you're talking about.

Odafin Tutuola : Look, man, I get it, okay? These are your teammates, your friends, and you don't want to rat 'em out.

Amanda Rollins : But that's not what you're gonna be doing, because we already know who did it. He was at the precinct hours ago and he feels terrible about what happened.

Jack Wilson : You talked to Kyle?

Linda Wilson : Kyle? Kyle Turner? You said you didn't see who attacked you. Oh, it can't be. Timmy and Will, they... sure, they're idiots. But Jack and Kyle have known each other since kindergarten. They're inseparable.

Frank Wilson : You guys are sure it was him?

Odafin Tutuola : Yeah, we're sure.

Amanda Rollins : But we do need your son to confirm it.

Frank Wilson : Forget about the team, Jack. Just... go ahead and tell them.

Jack Wilson : I've never seen him like that before.

    Amanda Rollins : Who?

Jack Wilson : Kyle, okay? Kyle. It was like he was this whole other person. Timmy and Will grabbed me. I couldn't move. Couldn't fight back. Suddenly, Kyle had the stick. And he looked at me all crazy and he... and I just... I don't know. And then it was over.

  • Amanda Rollins : Adam, we're getting you some help, okay?

Dominick Carisi Jr. : What happened?

Helen Turner : Adam just kept pushing Jim's buttons. I couldn't stop it.

Dominick Carisi Jr. : Where's your husband right now?

Helen Turner : He rant out of here. I don't know.

Dominick Carisi Jr. : Where's Mark?

Helen Turner : He's not here. I sent him to my mom's.

Amanda Rollins : [as Adam tries to sit up]  Listen... no, no, no. Listen, Adam, don't move. We're getting you an ambulance. All right, baby? Stay right there.

Adam Turner : [pointing to his camera phone propped up nearby]  You needed to a way to get Kyle to talk. This is it. I got it on video.

    [to Kyle]

Adam Turner : Don't protect him anymore. He doesn't deserve it.

  • Helen Turner : Kyle's confused. Jim has this... hold over him.

Amanda Rollins : Well, Helen, for god's sakes, don't you get it? Your son is gonna go away.

Helen Turner : If I tell Kyle to testify, Jim goes to jail.

Amanda Rollins : But he is abusing your sons. He... he broke Kyle's wrist. He beat the hell out of Adam.

Helen Turner : He didn't mean to. He loves them, and they love him. He's a good man. He just...

Amanda Rollins : He just what, has a bad temper, he gets impatient? That's a cop-out, Helen.

Helen Turner : Every day for the past five years, I wake up and say "I'm going to take the boys and leave." But then he... he does something that makes me see the other side. He mows my mother's lawn or pays for her arthritis medication. Or tells me that he... he loves me. And I say to myself "This is a good man." But then...

Amanda Rollins : He changes. He gets abusive. Because that's part of who he is, too.

Helen Turner : You're right. It is. It's just so hard to accept the fact that you... that this is the man you picked to spend your life with. To have children with. So you keep trying to fix things.

Amanda Rollins : Even though it's not fixable. Listen... Kyle's a boy. You can fix him. Okay? But first of all, you've gotta convince him to testify; to go on record and say that his dad forced him to assault Jack with that hockey stick.

  • Helen Turner : Jim and Kyle have a great relationship. He wants what's best for Kyle.

Amanda Rollins : Does, uh... does he ever get rough with Kyle?

Helen Turner : No. That is not something that goes on in our house.

Amanda Rollins : 'Cause, uh... your son's medical records tell a different story. Mrs. Turner, I don't... I... I don't think you understand. Kyle has committed a serious crime. It's aggravated sexual assault. He can be charged as an adult. And if he's convicted, he's gonna go away.

Helen Turner : But he's only a boy.

Amanda Rollins : Which is why we want to give the prosecutor some reason to help your son. But you're gonna have to help us out to do that.

    Helen Turner : How?

Amanda Rollins : You gotta tell us what's going on between Kyle and his dad.

[she notices Helen instinctively glance out into the bullpen]

Amanda Rollins : At least do it for Kyle's little brother Mark.

  • Jim Turner : This is just a misunderstanding. That's all. How do we make it go away?

Amanda Rollins : We don't. We can't. But we might be able to find a way to make his punishment less severe.

    Jim Turner : How?

Amanda Rollins : You admit to abusing Kyle.

    Jim Turner : Excuse me?

[seeing her stoic expression, he scoffs]

Jim Turner : Look, my parenting style might be old school, but I'm never physical. Kyle wants to be a great player. I know how to get him there. Came close to playing pro myself.

Amanda Rollins : How do you explain the spiral fractures, all those untreated injuries?

Jim Turner : He's a hockey player. Sometimes he gets hurt. But he plays through the pain. He doesn't complain like most of his pansy friends. That's just who he is.

Olivia Benson : [watching in the observation room]  Well, we tried. I mean, clearly this family is not gonna budge.

Odafin Tutuola : So what do you want to do?

  • [last lines]

Amanda Rollins : A few years in juvie is a lot better than ten in state prison.

Olivia Benson : Small victories, I guess.

Amanda Rollins : And Liv... we got that father out of the house.

Olivia Benson : Thirteen years too late.
