Horrible Movie
spencerwaynesmith6 May 2017
Warning: Spoilers
This movie is absolute garbage. There is no way that anyone that saw this movie and was not involved with the filming of it would ever give it above a 2. So, the basic premise in this film is; a haunted music box that when a person listens to it they want to kill themselves. This is only partially correct. Actually it's watching this movie that might induce a viewer to do it. As far as bad goes, I'm not sure where to start. The only reason I gave it 2 stars instead of 1 is because parts of the movie were funny, though not intentionally. I wish I could say it's so bad it's good, but that would be incorrect. This is just really bad.

If I can save just one person $1.50 from renting this from RedBox, I feel like those 90 minutes I spent watching this movie will not be completely lost forever. I feel like someone owes me money for watching it. I need to take a shower now to get the smell of this movie off me.

Drill your own teeth instead.

The premise is dumb and cliché - ewwwwww, a haunted music box from a yard sale! And the plot leads nowhere from there - people die or they are possessed or they are/aren't. It's really hard to tell or care. A medium is consulted. Demonic tummy carvings ensue. All stuff you have seen in far better movies and TV shows. The acting is community theater bad. The "effects" are lame. It is just another clunker in the standard rash of DIY horror movies since the advent of streaming services. It's fairly dreadful.

Paint a wall, film it drying, post that to the internet, watch it in place of this.

This is indeed horrible.
Commander_Keen7812 May 2017
There's only one reliable review out here... You know how these things work nowadays... Well, what can I say... All things beyond are my personal opinions. Let that be clear up front.

It's bad. It's all bad. Story is thin as can be. Acting is bad. The "atmosphere" is bad. Low budget isn't an excuse for making bad movies. Often on the contrary. But in this case it just implies all the stuff mentioned before. I'm sorry, for me it was a total mess...

and the award for best actor goes to......
curtisfcmf3 September 2017
the box.

The actors should stick to High School plays and dinner theater. Perhaps pharmaceutical commercials. Uninteresting characters, terrible storyline, and lame effects all come together to make one ponder the meaning of their own life, by begging to ask the question.....why did I spend money watching this? At this point, I wish I could open my own haunted box. For that which has been seen cannot be unseen. But to be fair... The lead,(Jenn Foreman), does in fact have talent. But she could not save this film from itself. Actors gotta eat...and while this lousy film put food on her table, it must have been a long slow chew while staring off into nothing. I gave it one star...because I don't believe in attendance trophies.

Nothing extraordinary here...

What initially drew me in to watch "Sacrilege" was the poster/cover for the movie. It shows a ghostly nun with some Satanic imagery as well. So it did seem like it could have the potential to be a rather interesting movie, and I must say that the poster/cover was quite nicely made and looked rather professional.

The movie, well it didn't really fully live up to what I had expected it to be. Was it better? Nope, most definitely not. The movie is adequate, I will say that much, it just turned out to be something rather different from what I thought it would be. And the movie's poster/cover has absolutely nothing to do with the movie, so disregard this from being connected to the movie. It only serves as bait to lure you in.

I will say that the production value of the movie was quite good and it was definitely one of the stronger aspects of the movie. Especially so since the storyline itself was very generic and mundane. If you have seen other movies that involve supernatural entities and hauntings, then you already know what you are in for here. Don't expect to be surprised in any way.

As for the acting in the movie, well people were doing adequate jobs with their given roles and characters. I wasn't familiar with anyone on the cast list, which usually works well for me and in favor of the movie; as I enjoy watching new talents in movies.

The music in the movie was a bit too over-dramatic and was bordering on being downright annoying at times. Sure, it was supposed to supplement the suspense and intensity of the movie, but what they thinking with some of the music they opted for? And it was also a bit too loud compared to the dialogue.

"Sacrilege" is a rather bland and mediocre movies in this particular genre. It was adequately entertaining enough for what it was, just don't get your hopes up too high for this movie.

The storyline was predictable and straight forward. And there were no twists or turns to the storyline along the way, which made for a rather plain and plotted course throughout the movie. The pacing of the movie was rather slow, but at least things were happening.

All in all, then "Sacrilege" is a below average movie for this particular genre. There are far better movies available if you enjoy this genre of movies.

All Good Girls Want to Die
nogodnomasters5 July 2017
Warning: Spoilers
A haunted music box causes people to commit suicide. I guess the baroque mirror has been over done. Jessica (Jenn Foreman) buys the music box at a yard sale, being the only person on the planet to buy a music box without listening to it. She gives it to her housemate Samantha (Megan Few) who becomes victim number 2. They quickly suspect the box when "Thing" pokes its hand out and normal means of destruction and disposal are useless. They get professional help from a college professor (Kim Baptiste) and her helper Ted (Greg Pearson).

Poor Ted reminded me of Jim Fowler of "Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom" getting are the dangerous jobs...while Jim wrestles the anaconda...The sound track wasn't as scary as it needed to be and likewise the music box tune was nondescript and need a real scare tune maybe the opening riffs to 'Stairway to Heaven" if they had a budget. The acting wasn't bad, but wasn't convincing with the plot and dialogue. Not to give too much away, but I would prefer any exorcism done on me be performed by an old Irish priest and younger apprentice than a college professor and guy with camera. Just saying should the occasion arise. Also (possible spoiler) after three suicides in one house in a short period of time, maybe just one low budget actor pretending to be a cop would be expected. If (s)he was there after the first suicide, they could have become an interesting part of the script and another victim. The film needed character.

Guide: F-word. No sex or nudity. Special effects were okay.

Just Bad
cloverallovermd23 May 2017
**No spoilers**

Per the movie's description, it's about a girl who buys a dybbuk box thinking its a jewelry box. The movie cover has absolutely nothing to do with the movie. There are no nuns or sacrilegious ceremonies depicted in the movie. The first few minutes and a brief verbal description midway are your only backstory to the box. I get nauseated from the faintest sight of fake gore and I can assure you, you'll see nothing nauseating in this movie. The ending is a drop off, where you really don't know wtf happened or will happen. The movie does not leave you with any what-if's except, 'What could I have accomplished by not watching this movie?" The series "A Haunting" did this with commercials back in 2013 and it only took them an hour. I prefer "A Haunting"s version much better too.

Those who voted 4 stars gotta be kidding me
kk-carrie12 May 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Bad. Bad bad bad. Ignore those 4, 5 stars rating reviews because I'm pretty sure they are paid to do that. I gave two instead one because the main character tried her best to save the movie but when that Dr GhostBuster came into the picture, her effort just fell into the toilet bowl of circus. Her acting is just so terrible I thought she was joking or she was a fraud. Actings bad. Cinematography bad. Sound effects bad. Expect cheap jumpscare. Everything is so bad I started wondering whether if this is a result of a project made by university students. I guess this is a low-budget movie, so all the more reasons need to work harder to produce better quality.

Terrible Acting - I Mean It Is Terrible
timothygartin13 July 2019
I did not like this movie at all. The story is one that we have seen many times and the script does not bring anything new here. The cinematography has a little creepiness to it, but that is about all there is to say positively.

The BIG issue with this movie is the acting. It is horrible. The entire cast does a terrible job of anything more than reading their lines. It is obvious in the first 5 minutes of the film that these folks brought nothing to their characters. The characters were poorly written cartoons as well, but the actors had no emotion or anything else to give to this movie.

IMDb should Be cracking down on fake ratings. This movie deserves a ZERO.

Warning: Spoilers
I repeat:

IMDb should Be cracking down on fake ratings. This movie deserves a ZERO. ZEEEROOO!!!

There is literally nothing redeeming for me to say about this. I've seen better films posted by students for free on YouTube, made by volunteers with no budget at all.

The only think I found passably done was the box cover. Props to whoever did that as it caused me to pick up this ... cmon, its not even a movie, its bunch of people who cant act, directed by someone who cant direct, with script perhaps written by someone falling asleep.

All good girls want to die
wylars7712 July 2017
Any true horror fan should give this film at least one full viewing. Things I loved: The tense atmospheric soundtrack A pretty unique plot and a solid plot twist ending. Spooky visuals. The music from the box, the imagery, and the box itself were excellent. Things that needed improving: The plot pacing, however once the movie hit it stride it stayed strong and had my attention. I think for the budget this movie was fantastic as far as the horror genre is concerned. I personally found it to be better than the recently released big budget The Beguiled. I would have easily paid $7 at a movie theater to watch this film and I would have walked away happy with what i watched. Looking forward to more films from this director.

This was another Z list movie with bad acting. I hate when I want to watch a good flick and it's a low budget film that just isn't good.

Solid Indie Horror
rhinestonerockstar4 May 2017
Watched tons of low budget horror films. Watched a lot of bad stuff... a lot. Sacrilege doesn't fit that category. I dare say this one is that rare low budget indie movie you come across every so often. Acting is great. Liked the leads a lot. Very believable for the horror genre. The score and sound is really top notch. Story wise it starts out somewhat familiar, but by time you get to the second act it goes in unexpected places and becomes something else.

If I had any gripe, it would be the single location. I know its a haunted house movie but it would've been nice if the filmmakers opened it up just a tad more. So 8 out of 10, definitely worth checking out.

Great Horror Movie!
I really enjoyed Sacrilege! It was a great rainy night movie! If possession and the demonic intrigue you, this movie is for you. There were several plot twists and the movie did a really good job of holding my attention (which at times can be a daunting task!). I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys paranormal movies!

A creepy music box is haunted by a soul sucking demon. Too bad Jessica didn't realize it when she bought it at a garage sale.

Warning: Spoilers
First let me say I'm a huge fan of horror films. I have seen pretty much all of them and I don't like many. I have to say this is a pretty good film! Good atmosphere and plenty of scares. My favorite of course is the stuff you do not see coming. Usually in these "lo budget" films it's predictable. This movie was not. My wife watched it with me and she was basically covering her eyes the whole time. She's scared pretty easily, but it made even me jump a few times. I don't ever want to hear a music box ever again.

Low Budget Gem
averydwilson8 May 2017
Warning: Spoilers
OK, so lazy college student buys a cheap music box for friend. Too bad said music box is home to a demon bent on feeding off the life forces of everyone unfortunate enough to hear the box's little tune. Think a meaner, smaller Dementor and you are in the ball park.

Normally, I don't go for horror films. If you've seen ten then you've probably seen everything worth seeing, but this one worked for me. The cast seemed liked they really gave it their all. The direction and editing are really tight… and I mean really tight…a lot happens in this film's hour and thirty minute run time. At times the movie really got under my skin. Something about the characters' hopeless situation unnerved me.

If I had to find any negative, it be that I'd wish there were more special effects shots. There was no big scene where everything went crazy, but what they had worked even if it was a tad understated. 10 out of 10 because I feel generous.
