One of the best Horror Host shows out there
dwaltz13 June 2018
Being an old fart I remember when we had Shock Theater on Channel 41 WUHQ. We had The Ghoul for two weeks and declared him too offensive. Flash forward to today where anyone, myself included, can be a horror host. Night Chills does the audio sweetening that I love when The Ghoul does it. His host segments are laugh out loud funny with Vincent, Phydeaux the Raven and Dracula the best of the best. Truly a magnificent showe.

One of the shows I NEVER miss

There are a lot of Horror Host series out there and they all bring some charm or other to the mix, but few command my attention as much as Vincent Grimmly in Night Chills Theatre. I make it a point to drop ANYTHING I am doing when his show is on because it's guaranteed laughs. Frequently inventive, always cleverly written, and with a delightfully deadpan approach that never fails to elicit a smile. Do yourselves a favor and check this show out! Tell 'em Joe sent you.

Keeping the genre alive by raising the bar
One of the best Horrorhosts still producing in America. Horrorhosting is a labor of love and is often done in one's own garage or basement. Knaus has created professional quality sets, lighting, makeup, props, and sound all on a microbudget. His writing is sharp and often gut-busting funny. Hilarious sight-gags, sharp sarcasm, deadpan delivery and witty banter between him and his raven sidekick Phydeaux gets wrapped around camp cinema classics and sprinkled with his sharp editing skills to create a nostalgic stew of comedy gold. He honors the classic host format of yesteryear, but drags it all kicking-and-screaming into the 21st century.

Best of the Best

As a former standup comedian, I tend to be what is called "a tough room". It takes a lot to make me laugh out loud. Yet Vincent Grimmly manages every time. One of the conceits of the horror host genre is that most shows must draw from the same relatively small pool of public domain movies. This then requires that a host must bring something special to the party in order to keep the audience watching. It can be a very delicate balancing act, which Darren Knaus, the one man band in charge of NIGHT CHILLS THEATRE does gracefully. In the wrong hands, it can be distracting and annoying for a host to throw bits of comedy into the movie itself, but by doing it skillfully and judiciously, here it becomes a work of art. His episode featuring the movie TERROR TRAIN is simply without par. Like most hosts, Knaus produces his show with more love than money, but he has enough technical prowess that you can believe in Vincent Grimmly, neighbor Vlad, and Phydeaux the Raven.
