Amusingly violent but runs too long and is missing a sharpness that would have set it off nicely

There is an absurdity to this film which is key to it working at all. In a way that reminded me of the Jason Statham film Crank, it requires us to buy into the silliness of the idea so that we can then relax and enjoy the film for whatever it wants to do. This film more or less manages to do that, although not totally.

On the site I saw this film it referenced Grand Theft Auto, and for sure this is a good reference because the film is firmly rooted in this world. Prostitutes, pimps, trigger-happy cops, and a daft mission – it really could have been part of GTA4 with Niko seeking his cereal. This place of random violence and colorfully foul characters makes the excessive violence and comedy of the piece more or less work, with good performances helping it along. The only fault it really has is that it runs too long, and doesn't always have the sharp pace that it needed to have. Still worth a look despite this, but it is a downside of the delivery.
