The sons of Victoria
Prismark109 April 2016
Queen Victoria and Prince Albert had planned Camelot. An age of chivalry for their sons to follow at a time revolution had swept through Europe and royal blood being spilt.

It did not work out like that. Prince Albert soon after giving the eldest son Berie a talking to in the rain for sleeping with a disreputable woman, fell ill and soon died. Victoria felt that the events several weeks earlier were responsible.

Like with her daughters Victoria wanted to control the lives of her sons, she certainly despised most of them. The sons were determined to break free of their mother's control.

Bertie who would go on to be crowned after Victoria's death was a womaniser. As one academic stated, get as much of it as you can. If you get caught pay people off.

The rest of the children seem to have fared little better, the second eldest son, Alfred spent more time in the navy to keep his distance from his mother and also hope she never found out about his womanising and excessive drinking.

Leopold who was a sickly child also tried to break free form his mother. Victoria thought of him as ugly and less pleasing of the whole family yet still tried her utmost to control him.

Despite Victoria being disappointed with her offspring, Bertie when crowned as King Edward VII did usher in a beginning of a modern monarchy at the beginning of the twentieth century. He restored the pomp and circumstance of the monarchy and also broadened the class of people that the royalty came into contact with.
