Similarly, in Iblis, he plants an imaginary village with brightly-coloured puppets, and quirky characters—a cheery grand old man (Lal in multi-coloured jackets) who travels in a skyblue vintage car, his grandson who puts up loudspeakers at funerals, a phony sage who claims to see jinns, a curly brown-haired girl dressed in dreamy frocks as she sells sweetmeats, a kohl-lined perfume seller from Arabia...

The actor, according to sources, has been signed to play the lead role in the film Kakshi Amminipilla, to be directed by Binjith. Scheduled to go on the floors on the 20th of next month, it will be the director’s debut venture. The shooting for the film is expected to begin in Thalassery. There are no details yet on the lead opposite Asif or the rest of the cast and crew. Reports say that the details will be divulged officially very soon. Asif Ali currently has a couple of movies lined up for release this year. He will be seen starring in Mandaram and Iblis. While Mandaram is directed by newbie Vijesh Viay, Iblis will be directed by Vs Rohit of Adventures of Omanakuttan fame. The former is a coming of age movie while the latter will be a fantasy film. Besides these two films, Asif Ali will be collaborating with director Jis Joy with whom he had worked in two movies – Bicycle Thieves and Sunday Holiday – earlier. The film has Aishwarya Lekshmi playing the woman lead with Siddique, Renji Panicker, Shanthi Krishna, Kpac Lalitha, Balu Varghese, Arjun Ashokan and Aju Varghese being a part of the star cast. The actor, it is evident, is very picky about his films and has been choosing different genres to showcase his talent. Asif Ali made his debut as an actor in 2009 with the film Ritu, directed by Shyamaprasad, and has worked his way up after coming out with several hit films. He has worked with Sathyan Anthikkad in Kadha Thudarunnu, Aashiq Abu in Salt N Pepper, Amal Neerad in Bachelor Party, and so on, and has won several awards in his career so far.
