Help! I'm so frightened...!
stephenw-3018017 May 2017
My title is in reference to being frightened of wasting one more minute of my life trying to "keep the faith" that someone will make a Horror/Ghost film worthy of my or anyone's time.

This film kept me entertained for about 35 minutes whilst the crew and town's Sheriff were doing and interview and overview of the "Haunted Home" in question. This, my fellow fans, is where the films highlights end!

Once the childish questioning of the supposed spirits (which took about 10 minutes of run time) was over..(someone in the audience actually yelled "Why am I asking so many stupid questions"...the highlight of the film BTW, the crew proceeds through the home room to room. With a whole lot of nothing going on for another 15 minutes. The only "action", if you can call it that", scares, camera distortion, a temporary possession, subliminal scenes etc, none of which are remotely scary or surprising, the crew attempts to leave the house. This only, in the ultimate Cliché way, draws the moronic crew back into the house.

I won't bother to explain the rest as it's literally not worth writing about. In a nut shell, sound and lighting, terrible, acting, horrendous, story line, could have been decent (hence my 2 rating), scare factor, -1, and editing, grammar school level.

Horror Fans, don't waste your time!!!!!!

Looking for love in all the wrong places
nogodnomasters5 July 2017
Warning: Spoilers
A group of amateur investigators from Minnesota, who never say "uff-da" during the entire film (made the whole feature unbelievable), travel to Royal, North Dakota to investigate a house where there were gruesome killings and cannibalism fifty years earlier. The owners and killers, the Olsons, were never found. Sheriff Warren (Mark Diers) gives us a detailed monologue on what they found in every room of the house, including infamous room 14 and also mentions where they found nothing, all the while reciting poetry from the Olson journal, "Room 14 is what she got, left there to die and rot." Okay not the best poetry. It appears they were cutting people open, looking for love.

The second third of the film, (stop reading now if you plan on watching) is Robert (Dave Andrews) or maybe the other guy, walking around in the dark playing 20 questions with dead people while being filmed..not doing as well as when I play the same game with my cat.

The last part was shot by flashlight when lucky, and sometimes darker. It consists of Wade (Louie Babcock) showing us his acting career is dead outside of North Dakota by sounding severely constipated with a voice distorter rolling around on the floors and stairs.

I don't understand all the hate. This was by far the best horror film to come out of Royal, North Dakota and the best if you discard the U-Tube video short about the two headed goat who fetches the morning paper. This is also one of the few films from this region that has nothing to do with the XL pipeline or fracking, unless the guys in white who you can't knock any sense into with a hammer, are symbolically Trump supporters.

Guide: No F-words. No sex or nudity.

Typical found footage indie horror junk
Leofwine_draca28 November 2017
Warning: Spoilers
EXSCIND is yet another example of the indie horror junk currently filling up digital schedules and video sharing sites in the form of 'found footage' horror. This has exactly the same template as many others, beginning with a tiresome 30 minutes of interviews then moving on to aimless woodland wandering for what seems like an age. The viewer doesn't see much and the characters just shout "what the hell was that?" and "who's there" ad infinitum. Plus they have no money for proper lighting so you have to squint to see via weak torch light. A tiresome viewing.

Worst.Movie.Ever.
texpatriate201111 July 2017
I'm a huge horror fan and while I wasn't expecting too much from this movie, I found it to be absolutely awful. The acting reminded me of some kind of amateur haunted house commercial, and the camera work was confusing at best. The possession / exorcism scene at the end was painfully long, and I finally lost interest altogether after the fifth round of screaming, "Why are you doing this?!" Don't bother with this one.
