Your ROUTINE 'lets go for a group make out session at the local psycho hospital!!!!' flick.
There's not a lot of story and an awful lot of awful acting in this one. Nothing really breaks out as great in this one. You might want to save yourself the time.

I Think We Should Wait by the Car
nogodnomasters1 July 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Three Americans and one very ugly America, Carl (Adam Horner) go on holiday in Sydney where they drive on the wrong side of the road. Carl's girlfriend Sophia (Madeline Marie Dona) has major league issues as they all go on a ghost tour of Ravenwood Psychiatric Hospital where in 1951 we get a flashback to Sarah being treated with electro-therapy.

While on the tour, they encounter real spirits who have their own anger management issues.

The film has a nice twist which I wish they had better developed instead of just springing it on us. Madeline Marie Dona was the main character, and I really didn't care for her or her acting which I found unconvincing...maybe it was the director or dialogue. It wasn't until near the end when the twist was revealed did I start to get engaged in the production. If you have a mystery, you must let the audience know there is a mystery, especially when the story line and acting is otherwise mediocre.

Guide: F-word. Near sex. No nudity

Redeeming Points? Executive Meddling leads to crappy star
prestonm199319 August 2017
Warning: Spoilers
It's not Superbad, Be Cool or Copper Mountain. So there is one redeeming factor, that it is no abomination like these three.

Hot actresses. Seriously, this movie has some babes.

How it could have been better: Nudity, More Violence and firing Adam Horner

Adam Horner's performance as Carl is the worst I have ever seen, and I watch a lot of amateur films and Steaven Seagal movies. Even the original voice actors of Resident Evil didn't suck this bad. No wonder he needs his mommy to help him get in a movie. It astounds me he somehow has (at the time of writing this) 15 film roles to call his own. That's one more than Shane Savage (14), 5 times as many as starlet Madaline Marie Dona (3), 9 more than Isabel Dickson (6), 13 times more than the very talented Josie Waller. Only Ashley Fitzgerald comes close with a total of 10 roles, though some are actually episodes of series, so she may technically have equal or greater experience. Hell, he didn't even play a remotely redeemable character! Cheated on his sweet fiancé more than once, including the events during the film, and his character is a skeptical ass until he finally gets what he deserved - killed (and his actor, no longer being seen in the rest of the movie).

Am I saying the movie would be better without him? Well, in my opinion yes, but it's not like it would help it's video quality or production value.

Best Part Was the Ending Theme
serina2580118 August 2017
After reading the description on Redbox, this film seemed to be right up my alley for a cheesy, asylum horror flick. I was really looking forward to watching this movie, but I should have known by the opening scene that this film was going to be a jumpy mess that made no sense.

After the opening scene, it introduces the main characters and all of them have the personality of a wet paper bag. Actually, that's unfair. A wet paper bag is still useful after it dries. The only character I found myself liking was Zach, played by Jock Campbell. He seemed to be the only person to bring any type of life to the character he was given. The acting is stiff at best for everyone else, though it does occasionally pick up here and there.

Now for the story: Wait. What story? No spoilers, but the main female, Sofia (Madeline Marie Dona) kept going on about this whole "wait for sex," "six months," "you know why," thing. But that's just it. It NEVER explains the time frame. It gives some backstory to her why she doesn't want it, but what was with the whole "six months" thing? Like...I kept waiting for that to come into play and it never did. And all of her friends keep saying how she's so "strong" and all this nonsense, but we never see it. You can't just keep saying what a character is. You have to show it.

That's the point of film. SHOW, don't TELL.

At no point throughout the movie is she ever shown doing anything noteworthy. She never tries fighting off the spirit, she never stands up for herself, she never does anything. Honestly, I found her and the boyfriend character to be the least interesting in the entire film and she was a main focus. If you're the main focus, you have to be interesting - entertaining. Just...something.

Most of these characters could be replaced with balloons with faces painted on them and you'd get the same amount of energy.

Look, I love cheesy horror flicks. Those dealing with mental institutions and possessions are usually my go-to movies for some fun and entertainment. This should have been a perfect movie for that and it wasn't. It honestly annoys me that I wasted the $1.69 to rent this thing.

The ending theme was pretty good, though.

Worst film I have ever seen!
allanredmondlincs3 January 2020
To start with the cast and everyone associated with this movie have obviously done their very best to get the ratings up high on here. Unfortunately the movie does not reflect this I would definitely give this movie a minus rating if it was at all possible. It was terrible from start to finish with extremely poor acting and an awful storyline throughout. The put on American accents were shocking, It looks like it was all written and filmed and edited in one night. The amount of times that this movie made me cringe unfortunately for the wrong reasons. It's worth just watching to see how bad it is and decide for yourselves.

NICE TRY BUT THIS FILM IS SOULESS
movieguy300026 July 2020
Nothing worse than Aussies pretending to be Americans, the accents drop out and then it takes away the suspension of disbelief. Great looking actress but the standard of acting is very low. Another supernatural genre film made by Aussies and the special effects are also very poor. I would forgive all that if you just gave me compelling characters that are not flat and wooden and were 2 dimensional with layers. Give me heart and emotion. Locations were fantastic but 1 star for effort.

Pretty awful all around. Unlikeable characters who use the oldest lines in comedy. The Virgin Hoe is a great touch. Baaaaarf.

Ravenswood
a_baron6 July 2017
Two young couples turn up at a supposedly haunted house for the weekend where they are met by a third. That sentence may contain a paucity of detail but, regardless of how much it is elaborated on, you know what comes next.

The house concerned is actually an abandoned hospital in Australia where a notorious doctor used to practise shock therapy. The third couple are the custodians, and for a fee they will show you around the premises where you can experience the feel like no other haunted house in Australia complete with cold spots nurtured by dry ice.

Yes, to the surprise of the custodians and the disbelief of the paying customers, a real spirit is unleashed, and yes, it does start killing them, and yes, this is not the sort of situation in which any rational person wants to find himself. The ghosts are rational too, one of them, because in the penultimate scene, having possessed the body of one of the people she/it hasn't killed, she explains at length to the other survivor how wrong he is about ghosts. Does this film have any good points? Well, at the moment you can watch it free on YouTube, but you may still want your money back. The reasons "Ravenswood" doesn't score zero points are because one is mandatory and because all concerned are clearly rank amateurs, and should not be judged by the standards of professional actors, scriptwriters or producers. In short, pity.

Terrible
panther_husky22 June 2017
I am a fan of Australian films but this one left me annoyed and quite irritable.

Firstly, there really wasn't anything new within the story-line and basically, we all knew what was to come.

Secondly, the acting didn't seem genuine. At some point, it looked as though the actors were tired and had to force themselves into character. One of the American kids was just a total ass! I doubt anyone would act that way but, it is only a film so I will bypass my hatred for that character. Also, why have American actors in the movie? I hope this was not made for an international release? Or were the actors Australian putting on an American accent?

I honestly have seen better films from Ozzie writers and producers. This film was on the verge of boredom.

Don't, just don't
armadilla172 September 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I can not write all the things wrong with this movie, characters saying things that contradic things they had said earlier, For the love of all that is holy please heed mine and others warning. Do not watch. The horrible twist at the end isn't good at all I would not even call it a twist really. Spoiler now Why wouldn't the hospital staff lock Sarah in a proverbial rubber room after she killed her first inmate, it is an asylum. Also as if the authorities wouldn't believe a reputable Doctor and staff over a psychotic patient. So when the spirit of the doctor says he had to keep the killings hidden cause they would accuse him for it is so stupid.

Every Tuesday night we watch a terrible movie we call it terrible Tuesday and this movie sure lived up to that.

Surprisingly Good
deadgirlsamara27 June 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I picked this up the other day, took a couple days to actually sit and watch it (to be honest, my expectations were so low, I wasn't sure I wanted to watch it.

A group of 4 Americans are vacationing in Australia. The one, Sophia, loves things paranormal and booked them all on a ghost tour of an infamous insane asylum. One runs into a woman who has been inside for the last 2 days ans is just now being unpossessed, after "they" made her kill her boyfriend. So the spirit of Sara, a patient murdered at the hands of psychotic doctor, needs to find another host so can be carried beyond the walls so she can be free. She enters Sophia, and from her past trauma the two are closer linked than has Sara been with others. The insane Doctor possesses the boyfriend of Sophia's best friend. It is now the possessed friend chasing after and trying to kill the possessed Sophia, for the doctor wants to kill Sara and that means Sophia needs to die, unless they can trap the spirit in the friend and kill them both.

For half the movie I think this is going to be one of those scary movies where no one dies. I was wrong. Then come all the twists and turns. Just when you think you have it figured out, it changes up. I thoroughly enjoyed this movie and gave it a 7.

Crazy
Arivor1 July 2017
The important thing that one must be able to do to actually enjoy movies such as this is suspension of disbelief. Without that, good luck being able to enjoy any movie I can think of. It is a ghost story in an abandoned mental hospital (always creepy) If you can just take that in its behalf and run with it you will enjoy it. If you can't do that.. how do you enjoy anything. Persnickety people suck.

Gets better as it goes along ...
parry_na25 February 2022
Nice scantily clad girls and cretinous boys take a tour around Ravensworth Asylum. The most irritating of these is Carl, who is certainly the first character I wanted to see succumb to what unpleasantness this film had to offer. For an irredeemable twit, Adam Horner plays him very well, and he turns out to be the most interesting character; his male counterparts aren't much more likeable. The development between the characters is fuelled almost entirely by conversations about whether or not to have sex. Titillating, but not really engaging.

Only Sofia (Madeline Marie Dona) has a story to tell, and it's all blurted out in exposition. This is a possible reason given for her affinity with the twin-set of ghostly activity occurring in the abandoned, but remarkably tidy, asylum location.

There are more than enough twists and revelations at the end to ensure the film ends on a point of interest, but getting there is a meander. My score is 6 out of 10.
