Some potential but falls flat
digitalhat21 February 2017
This film wasn't terrible, but it takes a turn that makes no sense. I'm happy it didn't drag on for two hours. It takes a while to get going and the foreshadowing is obvious and a little goofy. There were some sparks of tension in the last 20 minutes, but as I said before, you just end up asking, "what, why"? with no answers to be found. It seems like they just threw cryptic stuff into the film for the sake of confusing the audience. Poor writing and story structure, which is too bad because it had potential.

Fare is less than fair
randibee21 February 2017
***spoiler alerts*** Basically this is a film that centers on 3 people. Eric the independent taxi driver, Patrick, Erics fare, and Audrey, Erics wife. Just so happens Erics fare for the evening is Patrick...the man who is cheating with Erics wife. Eric doesn't know this at first but quickly discovers through endless chat that his wife Audrey is having an affair with Patrick. Of course Eric becomes upset and has Audrey get into the vehicle with the 2 men. Eric drives the trio out to a desolate road then things escalate when they find a body on the road. After that, Patrick disappears, Eric and Audrey get attacked by unknown men and the ending is confusing. I guess I wasted 75 minutes of my life expecting a good ending but it never happened. The movie escalated to a possible exciting ending then...meh.

Entertaining and confusing if you don't put the pieces together
bjefferson-6185626 April 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Spoiler. First of all the driver knew that the passenger he picked up had been sleeping with his wife. He then precedes to pick her up too and they all go on a drive down a secluded road all the while he is enraged that their marriage seems to be coming to an end. Was I the only one who found it bizarre he chose a road with a dead end. Or that someone would play dead on a secluded road almost as if they knew he was coming. I think the husband meant to kill them both especially after he said 911 didn't pick answer after he announced her lover was dead and went on to ask if she wished it were him. I saw a bit of psycho in him. At the end he seemed to casual when the guys tried to run them off the road.He had a gun and made little effort to even use it on them. Thats why I believe the husband had it all planned.

Slow & boring.

Warning: Spoilers
SPOILER ALERT,, I'm going to tell it like it is.

This movie honestly was a waste of time. The ending was stupid. I thought maybe it was all staged at first, and he (the husband) was going to kill his wife & her fling. Instead he drives them to some dead end road, a body was just laying there so they stop, fling boy gets out to check on man in the road then gets stabbed. Cry baby gets out and chases them with a gun, cheating wife then drives off. Comes back and finds husband,,,, he gets in the car and tries to call 911 but says they're not answering lol. Then a car zooms up on them, rams them off the road. Then crybaby waves his gun saying if you come closer I'll shoot you bla bla but does nothing they break in the window and yank him out of the car,,, then OH MY,,, the wife picks the gun up off the seat and shoots both bad guys. He gets back in the car (bleeding) about to die and she drives saying don't leave me.

Technically Competent and Sufficiently Performed, But the Story is Where It Collapses
TroyeEvans1 March 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Fare is the directorial debut of Thomas Torrey, who also wrote the script and played the protagonist. It's not a complete disaster, but even at one hour and fifteen minutes, the film feels like a writer's crisis.

The first minutes set the stage with Torrey (Eric) driving a couple of customers as a ride-share driver; of course the one customer that is of any significance is the one with whom he shares a philosophical -- and out-of-place, and rather unrealistic, to be honest -- conversation. Bits of the conversation become material for another key scene with Patrick, who is sleeping with Eric's wife and happens to get on his car (yeah, unlikely, but however unlikely, it's possible, I guess). By far this conversation between the victim and the villain(?) is the most intriguing sequence out of the entire film, and it sort of gets interesting when Eric's wife unexpectedly joins the conversation.

From there, however, it all goes downhill. There's no need to go into detail what transpires afterwards; it suffices to say that the film's final act feels like a writer just giving up because he can't come up with anything interesting. Still, the film is a technically competent one with decent performances.

Don't waste your life on this movie
ajberardi7 March 2017
This is a horrible movie, poor acting, poor story, basically your in a car with 3 horrible actors who should keep there day jobs. Entire movie your in a car and the movie consists of 5 people. Complete waste of an hour and fifteen minutes, why would anyone in there right mind spend money on a film like this, there's not enough info on this movie to even write a proper review, so I guess the review is do not watch.

What the fu.....
ryleilove19 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Dge did I just watch? Did the writer/director/star run out of ideas to successfully wrap up the story? Was the writer/director/star sending a message/plea to rekindle with his lady through this movie? I have so many questions but I'm done asking....except....

What kind of law enforcement do they have where they are that won't do anything to help someone who calls in to report they've been kidnapped and provides the necessary information for the kidnapper? Did they think because the victim was a big grown man they weren't a victim? And they don't have enough 911 dispatchers to answer the phones? Imma need the whole city to reevaluate how they're tax dollars are being spent.

This movie was sooo good and had me up until they see a dead body in the road. Like I thought the conversation with the husband and boyfriend was a good build up to tension and a believable enough convo. Adding the wife into the picture was good as well. But idk wthec that ending was plus that boring ahh conversation between the husband and wife. For the entire ending that starts a little after 40 min to the 1:15 end, I give this a 3. It could have been a solid 6 but it just fell all the way flat. I'm in a good mood so 3 it is, otherwise, it would have been a 1. I mean to sit through 40 minutes of an interesting story and get to that disappointing ending really makes me upset. Maybe that's what the writer/director/star was aiming for???? Also included in my 3 rating is the fact that this movie is just 15 min over 1 hr. Thank you for not torturing us too long. I appreciate that, though you really could have cut it down to at least 90 min. Ok this review is long enough.

It's alright
mousta-5650726 February 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I didn't hate this movie. There is a lot of tension build up but the ending is just a little too bizarre. Police aren't answering the phone? That just doesn't make sense. Maybe he shot Patrick, but then what would he do once they did get to the police station? What killers would lay in the middle of a country road to trap a driver to kill? I really liked the movie but the last half was just wtf.

Brilliant psychological thriller.
enviouscatydd28 March 2017
Warning: Spoilers
The film begins with the protagonist's career seemingly over; his marriage to his sweetheart has soured, and she is having an affair with the last passenger of the night (you must all know by now that he is driving taxis at night to avoid home, and to make money) – his rival is at the top of his game; his wife also – he is superfluous, worthless – but a conversation with his first passenger contrasts with that with his rival, and he begins to awaken from his torpor and fight back and reclaim his life. Can he best his rival and win his sweetheart back? How far will he go to win? And so to the ending – was it his doing, the terrifying, heart stopping nightmare that unfolds? I shan't be more specific – but after reading the bad reviews, I felt the film deserved a bit of a leg up. It's not going to please everyone, but it is not the dog some say it is – and it stayed in my mind for ages afterwards, which a truly bad film would not.

To fight for, is to fight against
nogodnomasters29 July 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Eric Hollister (Thomas Torrey, writer, director, music, editor) drives an "Uber" style cab. He is having difficulties with his marriage of 10 years and talks to his passengers in a manner that would make them feel border line uncomfortable. By chance he picks up Patrick (J.R. Adduci) who happens to be having an affair with his wife. He gets his wife (Katherine Drew) into the vehicle also and then...we get an ending that seemingly has no closure. The key to understanding the film is the long conversation he has with another passenger (Pat Dortch). While there are hints. The film is done so it is not apparent. Might take a second viewing.

The production takes place in the fictional town of Chester (filmed in Charlotte). The action is all inside the car. Even scenes that take place outside the car, are filmed from the inside. It is a drama/psychological thriller with all the action concentrated in the final few minutes. Thomas Torrey wears on you after a while, like he does his passengers. I would say the film was well done for what it was, provided you understood it. However, a well scripted, decently acted film is not always entertaining if we are basically looking at the same faux-leather interior for 75 minutes as we wait for something to happen and then when it does, it is off screen.

Guide: F-word. No sex or nudity. Thank you Sloan Stewart for cleavage shot.

For those who watched it already..
VirginOnPromNight1 July 2019
Warning: Spoilers
My interpretation of the ending is that Eric set up the scenario of Patrick being killed so that he could win his wife back..... Or at least that's what I thought happened, but there is no evidence for that, since the film ended with Eric bleeding to death. I was just sure that Eric set it up as soon as Patrick gets killed. The fact that they showed the first passenger walking down the sidewalk at the very end of the film, could mean that HE (the guy who was talking with Eric about love) help set up Patrick's death with Eric, with Eric not really bleeding at the end....... But it's real thin, that theory..

I guess Eric really was

Relationship drama that is not what you think . . .
smcbride-459705 June 2017
The dialogue was great. I loved the unique modern setting (Uber). The actors did very well, in having to maintain characters in such blaring setting. And the twist to keep it interesting! To have to confront not only a person but your feelings while still "on the job". Well scripted, well built, well executed.

great indie movie
machkauchizmama9 June 2017
Although it's a low budget, for those of you who like psychological thrillers this movie will be more than interesting. It introduces some provoking ideas, it is very well scripted with great dialogue and actors. Makes you think about it for a long time, which surely is what good movie is about.

Totally unexpected final, good dialogues and scenes. The movie goes through some really interesting topics that worth's discussing, Like for example the one abut marriage and love. In general the movie keeps you interested in it and has a good soundtrack. Maybe a film for a rainy day.

THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX

Warning: Spoilers
After watching this movie I would highly suggest everyone to rewatch the movie and watch all the passengers that Eric talked too in the movie. I also believe that Eric and some of his passengers set up for his wife's boyfriend to be killed. An another thing Eric was keep texting when he was driving his wife and Patrick which means that he set the whole thing up. MOST WATCH AGAIN....

A bit like an old Twilight Zone episode
arwensong225 June 2017
I don't normally watch psychological thrillers, but this was a bit Rod Serling-esque and made my heartbeat speed up, kept me wanting to look away and watch at the same time--which was helped by the suspenseful music.

Good acting. Torrey is obviously a versatile artist, doing everything from the writing/directing and acting to the editing.

This film is a great example of what can be done with a small budget in terms of storytelling and filmmaking as it took place entirely inside the confines of a car.

I also appreciated the tip of the hat to C.S. Lewis at the very end of the credits.

Well done.

Excellent thriller with interesting concept
harlow-433994 April 2017
this is a low budget indie so can't really be judged on the same standards as a huge theatrical release film. well done and interesting. you can't expect special effects and brad pitt to do a cameo in an indie so i don't know what the other reviewers are thinking. plus it's topical so that's a plus.

Hella good movie.
mjart-8726725 August 2020
This is a low budget film that is almost all dialog set in a cab. It's also one of the best movies I've seen in the last w years. Lot of tension and mystery and lots of emotion.

best low budget indie you'll see this year
harlow_282 June 2017
especially if you mean very low budget. this is almost like a art school film that was unintentionally better than a lot of films you see in the theater. it's not got the glitz of a high budget extravaganza but it's thought provoking and it's interesting and my buddy actually wanted to watch it all the way through which is a rarity!

Great little idea for a movie
sandoreszter7 July 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I registered just to review this movie, as after watching it I was in disbelief that its rating is so low. This movie is a typical excellent idea with an independent low-budget development. The strength of the movie is the story and the pacing (going from extremely slow and low-key to heart-stopping by the end). The acting is a little bit less than perfect, especially when people are making phone calls, and the dialogue is sometimes a little clumsy. Overall, it is easy to get over these issues for a great punch at the end - best is to watch for yourself.

Spoiler upcoming if you are confused: Having read the reviews, it is clear that plenty of people did not understand the ending of the movie.

The ending is not some less than thought through action scene. The ending is not literal, it is simply a metaphor/allegory of the concepts the first passenger explained in the beginning. Pay attention when one of the attackers briefly takes off his mask to understand what is happening.
