Not bad for a first time effort
Spike_the_Cactus1 March 2020
Reading the 'trivia' section changed my view of the film. Let's be clear from the start, it's not a good movie. The effects are mostly of the 'hold stick under your armpit' variety, and there's a bizarre CGI throat slash effect that is really jarring. Plus the slow-mo. Slow-mo death scenes always look terrible. In anything. Ever.

But for (I assume) a group of friends to make this on $3k in their spare time it's got its charms. There's a story between the characters, a couple of creative deaths, and there's usually stuff going on. On that budget it's a decent effort.

I strongly recommend don't watch
canyongirl608 August 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Just camping with a crazy maniac hunting and killing them one by one. You don't get to find out what that fool was all about. And why did the blonde apparently have a hidden hairstylist who made sure her hair was freshly blown and curled each day. None of the chicks wore their hair for a camping trip. Long hair or weave down and swinging everywhere.

We need more wood
nogodnomasters8 October 2017
Warning: Spoilers
A group of young adults go camping in the woods for drinking and drugs. They irritate some locals who hunt them.

They only introduce one girl in the beginning, so the final girl is locked in. The characters were drippy with bad dialogue. It is billed as "mix Deliverance with Friday the 13th and a touch of the Breakfast Club." I don't think the person who wrote that has seen any of those films. It is more like "Slave Girls from Beyond Infinity" without the slave girls, infinity, or Ned. Now after traveling half a day in one direction, I was surprised how quickly they could reach the cabin once captured. It seems time and distance had no meaning. The should have done a scene where they may have gotten turned around or traveling in circles. Also there was no water in this film, let alone black water, unless this is some training ground for a company called Black Water which they should have set up in the beginning. Michael William Gordon did a better job directing than writing. Acting was fairly bad too.

Guide: No sex or nudity, although they do discuss their feelings. Don't recall much swearing, if any. 2 generous stars.

Note to self: Don't threaten people who are insane. Comment Comment | Permalink

Too familiar to have an effect
Leofwine_draca8 March 2017
Warning: Spoilers
BLACK WATER WILDERNESS is described as Deliverance meets Friday the 13th meets The Breakfast Club. Watching it, it feels more like Wrong Turn without the gore scenes and with a little more larking about and character interaction than usual for the genre.

The story is ancient and features the standard bunch of interchangeable teenagers who go out into the woods looking for a good time camping only to discover something evil wants to see them dead. This time they encounter some murderous hillbillies and are tortured in some low rent, non-shocking sequences.

There's a little violence but it isn't very realistically delivered and the whole experience is more dull than exploitational. There's no harm in having an old-fashioned viewing experience when when your material is so familiar the viewer just wishes that he or she were watching the originals instead of this lukewarm re-tread.

They Asked For It, and They Got It!

Warning: Spoilers
Ten luckless, hapless, inane, inept, obviously suicidal knuckleheads, must have made a pact to travel to the backwoods of Alabama to commit mass hari-kari! After just a few minutes, I stopped caring whether anyone survived. Each sadsack begged to be put out of their misery, and the maniacal, leaf covered wraith obliged. I don't know if I can sleep tonight. Or ever aagain!! This was stated a horror designation, and they weren't kidding. Nobody had any survival skills, or any desire to survive. One by one they said, "Just leave me", and the rest of the unkilled, yet, obliged. Lastly the title had the words Black Water. The only water I saw in this sham, was the dark blood gushing from their bodies as the Mad Hermit did them in methodically!
