This first episode actually introduces us to Glossaryck, the living embodiment of Star's book of magic spells. He has six fingers, although this is never really brought up. Wait, everyone else only has four fingers, so shouldn't he have five? They did the same thing with Stanford Pines in "Gravity Falls"! This had one of the earliest big shippy hints as Star begins lusting over Marco when thinking of boys. She does eventually tie him up, probably like the other boys. I think Oscar's a pretty good character, even though he is just a romantic false lead for Star. ***1/2
The next episode focuses more on Alfonso and Ferguson. It's nice to see Marco with some male friends, although they do eventually fade out in later episodes. This features the characters having to go to a pixie mine to pay off a debt. The subplot with the pixie queen falling in love with Ferguson is actually kind of cute. It doesn't really amount to that much, but we actually get a good scene where Marco has to talk him out of it and basically says he isn't ready. I wasn't expecting Alfonso to get with her, though. ***1/2
