I Deserve To Die...
awoolfork5 May 2015
The title of this review is the perfect title for the review of POI's Season 4 finale titled "YHWH". Words can't even describe this one... Bloodbath ? Yeah sure was. Philosophical ? a whole lot. action packed ? best believe. emotional ?! like you wouldn't believe. its episode like tonight's that show why season 4 has been the best season of the show and why this episode may give If-Then-Else a run for its money ( I'm a shoot fan by the way ). They way the war between Elias and Dominic crosses over with The rampage of Samaritan is an excellent one that i didn't see coming. this is an episode that i really want to void spoiling but let me tell you when Person Of Interest is firing on all cylinders no other show is better... none.

Father, I failed you..........
pavllina6 May 2015
This episode was so complex - it had a little bit of everything I needed to see. It kept me thrilled, amused, shocked, amazed and in the end it sort of just grabbed me by my hand strong enough to make me believe, believe that there is a chance for the Machine. What made it so good, undoubtedly, was the job done by the actors/writers. I will truly miss Glasses, Cocoa Puffs and Wonderboy (Fusco too, of course) throughout this summer. I am psyched about Sameen's storyline, I can't wait for the next season(I hope there is one). I am so grateful and happy that this TV show exists, I never loved anything so much in my life.

Rise of the Machines
jayant-12125 May 2015
Finally the payoff of this season. The disappeared god, the new ruthless god, the crime bosses and the action; everything was just plain awesome.

Finally the machines collide, finally the fight is all naked and the dread of previous episode reaches a fever that is simply impossible to take off.

The last 10 mins sums up everything season 4 wanted to tell. People lost their ways, machines lost their ways and did mundane things all over season but this one was a home run.

Last season finale, the machine was defeated and Elias had no place to perform in season 4. But this season has balanced all expectations.

This was marvelous, story telling at best and the AI mythology getting deeper. More confrontations, dangerous consequences and the fight of team machine and team samaritan will continue

The series will forever excite me and fans alike. Waiting for season 5 now

Warning: Spoilers
This is how a finale should end. And POI writers knows how to deliver a punch to the gut and emotions.

I was thinking they were going to do the obvious choice of Machine integrating itself into the Samaritan and both become as a single entity, in Root and Greer terms "The One true god". But it didn't happen and I love it.

The scene between Finch and the Machine in the end was the first time I cried for a POI episode. Not even Carter's death fazed me, but this was intellectual sadness of the top order. And, signifies the true pain and horror of a creator and inventor.

And Greer's speech to Control is so true and I so want him to be dead. A bad guy with ideals is terrifying and so impossible to shake. As they say, the most gruesome villains believe what they do is always correct and is better for the society.

Reese's bad-ass level spiked and shattered the bar this ep. Reese was becoming complacent this season but when cornered and he thinks all is left to fate and just smashes forward, he shines. His God mode utilization is awesome.

And POI Music time. "Welcome to the Machine". Another song to my playlist.

So many threads dangling, but the most important Q?

Who is feeding Bear when all the team is neck deep in trouble? He will starve to death in that subway

I don't know what else could have been done better. If this entire series would have been crap(not that it is in any way), this episode single handedly would have made me give this series a 9 star rating. If you have not yet started this series, this episode (and few more like this) are reason enough to start now. Why are you reading this? Go now!!! The epicness(I know its not a word) of this series has only increased season to season, episode to episode. They always find a way to capture you and take you onto a roller coaster rise. You will be "root"ing for the character you once disliked, enjoying top notch sci-fi one moment and biting your teeth in anticipation the next.

Best episode from an amazing show
cmore4086 May 2015
Warning: Spoilers
This is the type of finale we deserve from every show. It was full of action, and had a lot of truly gut wrenching moments. Story arcs were wrapped up, but a lot was left open. Characters that have been on the show for seasons died, and yet hope was left for some that were put in dire situations. The last couple of minutes, when the final song kicked in, was just amazing. There is no other way to describe it.

In an era of mediocre cable TV, Person of Interest is the only show I tune in every week to watch live. I wish I could wait until the season was done and watch it all at once, but I have to watch it week to week. I will watch the entire season back-to-back later.

Warning: Spoilers
Season 4 Finale ! Just a roller coaster ride.

But never trust any Nolan brother ! They will manipulate you with their intelligence and make you cry for more. This series just getting better with every season.

Salute sir Jonathan Nolan and team.

The song "Pink Floyd - Welcome To The Machine" which was there at the last 5 mins, you will forget everything in the world, you will just see the TV screen and what is there will just blow your mind. I have never seen anything great like this. So again, Sir Jonathan Nolan, you are the perfect man for this.

at the end - "FATHER, I'M SORRY .. I'VE FAILED YOU"

You will get emotional too ! Never thought anybody can make you this kind of emotional with a machine !!

Keep the good work boss. Waiting for the season 5.

Amazing end to what I hope wasn't the Series Finalle Warning: Spoilers
This was an incredible end to this season. Picked up straight from where we left off with Reese and the whole episode felt like every second of it mattered, no fluff or filler just pure story to cap off what was a roller coaster of a season.

We had an amazing performance from everyone and it's great seeing Johns more human side, after his near death scene all I have hoped for is more conversations between John and the rest of the Cast so they can start understanding each other, it's strange that at this point most of the characters know VERY little about each other, something I want to see more of!

This will be my first review here, I know I have to do this for POI but I can't say anything about it I can not find any words to describe. This last episode was more than amazing. Thank you Nolan and whoever helped this. Best show ever. All episodes were amazing but this final was beyond the limits. I was tired and my eyes were dry, I was going to use eye drops but after this episode I really do not need any eye drops for weeks. Yes this final was amazing but not enough we still need lots of things to be done. I really hope we will get approve for season 5 soon, not only me, world really needs one more season and one more final like this. There are so many bad series going on now and POI does not deserve to finish here. This cast deserves a chance to finish what they have started just give this chance to Nolan, I am sure Jonathan Nolan will give us more than we can imagine.

YHWH: a journey of the fall and rise of two A.I. Gods
rafid-judas5036 May 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Person of Interest has always raised its bars during the middle and end of each season and the writers have not failed to live up to their reputation of producing some of the best season finales. The season four finale, aptly titled "YHWH" which is a Hebrew word for God, caps off the season with a gripping end to what was a "see-saw" of a season with many ups and more than the usual downs.

When I saw last week's episode, I had my concerns regarding the three different story lines and whether they would coalesce in a perfect way in the final episode. I was not let down and I can surely say the same for the fans who have been keenly following the show. The episode was a journey and revealed so much about two characters of the show: Finch and Control. Ever since Nathan Ingram's death, Harold, in a way, blamed his creation and viewed it as a cold and calculating device which only spews out numbers when it detects possible acts of violence. And this notion of his was carried on for the better part of season four until the last episode where the Machine sacrificed its location to save its human agents. Moreover, the point of the final episode where the Machine called Harold "Father" was truly gripping, leading Harold to finally acknowledge that what he created is something he can proud of.

Control's character development in this season, more so in this episode, was equally impressive. She went from being CIA's Greer to someone who could not stand for such hypocrisy anymore. In the end, she was played by Greer and captured. However, I do hope she returns next season.

There were more stunning moments- Reese in God Mode taking down more than 20 Samaritan operatives alone, the fact that Caleb remembered Harold as the high school teacher who saved his life which led him to willing give his compression algorithm. Then there was the biggest subversion of our expectations- "The Correction" was not a terrorist attack, rather a methodical and surgical removal of key dissidents and opposition loyalists.

However, all being said, Samaritan came out on top for the time being. What we were able to glimpse of the Machine in season 1 being a huge network of servers had been reduced to a briefcase containing merely its core heuristics.

Can. You. Hear. Me? Hell, yes!

This was one of the marvelous and the brilliant episodes of POI (including If-Then-Else) Full of story, style, action & philosophy. I'm not sure how the directors and writers are able to conceive such ingenious plot. I was literally biting off my nails & pulling my hair constantly whilst making scream noises during the whole episode (especially the last 15 minutes). It's sheer brilliance. I'm don't flipping understand why would CBS wanna cancel this show & how on flipping earth, this series is so underrated than Breaking Bad, The Walking Dead & GOT Series. I simply don't & it's beyond my comprehension that, people rate mindless zombie show higher than this futuristic, philosophical & realistic show. I love everything about this. Please, more of it. The TV deserves to have some sensible writing!

Best of the rest
ElessarAndurilS12 May 2015
I've enjoyed POI from the beginning and while at points I questioned the direction it was taking I think that the 2015 finale YHWH was by far the best and while wrapping up a lot of story opens the door to even more. It brought us to a "face to face" showdown which left "the good guys" playing catch-up but a chance to see an edge of your seat battle to the death that wiped out some story portions I'm glad to be rid of, but written into the overall battle between the AI superpowers and their backers where one is taking over while the other simply trying to survive to fight another day. Great end and launching pad into next season. Nice to see John with all his unbelievable moves go into superhero mode and take out a small army in the last stand as we get to see a surprisingly emotional ending with our team walking off into obscurity certain that next season will start with the attempt to re-launch the machine and obtain supremacy once again. While that seems obvious the backbone of some stories are now gone while the foundations for many others have been laid. I think next season can only be the launch of a second wind to the series or its demise, but I'll be watching to see! I'll be pulling for a bigger and better continuance!

As soon as this word came on the laptop screen, I had immediate goosebumps and my pupils got dilated. Literal chills. Won't say anything else. No long paragraphs of already known and understood information.

Cheers.

Big Reviewers Secret #2
A_Different_Drummer29 November 2015
Approaching 1000 reviews here -- a while back I shared the first "big reviewers secret" (also used by the late Roger Ebert) which was, if you have to check your watch when watching a theatrical release, there are issues with the release.

And here for posterity is secret #2 -- if you are watching a movie or episode on a personal entertainment device, and you have to pause the PLAY because your brain is a little overloaded (and you walk it off, or get something to eat, or go the John) the producers have exceeded their own expectations.

Which is saying a lot for a single episode that actually named itself after the creator of the universe! Here I paused over a half-dozen times, once I even went outside to repaint the garage.

Think I made my point.

Warning: Spoilers
OH MY GOD.....How is this series not in the bloody top 10 of IMDb and I had made peace with the fact that this series will not win the awards it will always be under rated but this episode destroyed that peace...Screw(wanted to use another word) Game Of Thrones,Screw Breaking Bad and for the love of god SCREW SUITS this is the best series I have and will watch in my life...

Now on to the episode this is probably the only time I have cried for anything on screen..Didn't shed a tear when Carter died(Although was in a hell of a shock even after by mistake reading the summary) didn't shed a tear when Shaw apparently died didn't even shed a tear after the bloody Titanic but shed more than 2 tears when the machine was about to die...This episode probably showed a much better father son relationship in those 2 min then an entire movie could have shown. And only POI writers could have made me cry in just the next scene after having my adrenaline levels to an all time high.As for the rest of the episode the tension levels easily matched those of If-Then-else and easily exceeded any levels that Game of Thrones could have ever reached...

Finally Finch believes his son
dipanshuagrawal-0742714 November 2021
Straightforward episode where things of the season gets wrapped up pretty well.

But have a need to rate this episode due to the father-son conversation for the first time. It shows how well finch has taught "his son" and not "the machine". That was the moment of the series!

Just for the giggles
nemesis-8826 July 2022
There are some things that I don't quite understand.

1. Why use ice with laptops? They are not overclocking them so the standard cooling system would suffice.

2. "23 at the front, 10 at the back" should not be the tiniest of problems for Reece or Root. They are standing there in the open making them an easy target.

3. Why not simply... call the police and tell them there's an armed attack at a power station? Even if Samaritan cancels the call in the computer system, someone still will come and check it out.

And last but not least, when the evacuation of the courthouse is ordered, dozens if not hundreds of people are seen running out while the clock in the corner says "23-59-00". WHAT THE HECK are all those people doing at the Supreme Court, no less, AT MIDNIGHT!?

In order... to order!
hamidullahgenc23 December 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Let's take a step back.

For four to five years, John Reese and Harold Finch, with the contribution of Lionel Fusco, Joss Carter, Root and -even if just a drop or two- Sameen Shaw, have been playing a game to keep people off of each other's throats.

One can't help but wonder:

Could they leave it to the police, and to the court that people behave in peace?..

Could it be deemed arrogance or excessive mercy that this group of people try their own way instead of the well-placed system that has an authority for all to accept with relative ease?..

Some will shout out loud that the answer is no! while some will say yes, bowing their heads in pain...

Here is my answer:

There were efforts to build this government system as we know it. About 5,000 years ago, the small city-states appeared.

By the third to second millenniums B.C., some of these had developed into larger governed areas: Sumer, Ancient Egypt, the Indus Valley Civilization, and the Yellow River Civilization.

And all of these had the instruments to run / lead the people. The human power, the supplies, the will to act... and on top of it, time...

Unlike today's world... where the minds of the people are open to pretty much anything and everything, and they have vast amount of resourses to act on their new, better and stronger designs... like that of Greer's... which the system of Elias or that of Minic are nothing new but ancient with respect to.

Samaritan wants a closed circuit system by which no human can act nor sin freely... If anyone thinks this is good and will prevent the future wars, let us ask; why is so?.. Who gives who the authority?..

The capability is supposed to make way to all that are extraordinary?.. The capability to access information then act at speed of light... in order to order!

Okay, let's get to the top... Harold's inventing the machine was inevitable if we look at the zeitgeist. One way or the other, the artificial intelligence would exist.

Needless to say, Harold's use of it may seem very humane, too. To interfere with the bad happenings... Well-thought and acted on.

However, this instant, Samaritan teared down the walls. And look what's behind! ----- The idea to leave everthing... to a higher power. That is Samaritan!..

In my understanding that's shaped by the religion of Islam, it is not acceptable to leave things at the hands of another, off the cuff, and without thinking and scrutinizing...

Even the government - which can be founded in many ways as long as there are some principles in its core - must be criticized and hampered... even punished and replaced (in a way that is achieved by the system).

To our regret, there is none to hamper Samaritan... (But Allah, in my faith.)

Oh, my... Oh, why...

We should start caressing the orphans' heads... to deploy love against this evil, evil machine!..

(P.S.: Emptying the streets, and the irrelevance of the government in this episode are the work of Samaritan... Even when we see it not.)

The Loyalty Test
claudio_carvalho9 March 2024
The Samaritan is cutting the supply of power on the West Coast and other areas. At the subway station, Finch and Root receive a telephone call from The Machine asking for help. The Machine tells Root to get some supplies, such as night-vision goggles from criminals, ice and the compression software and some chips of Ramdom-access Memory from Caleb's company. Meanwhile, Reese, Fusco and Elias are prisoners of Dominic and The Brotherhood at the NY Savings Bank. Elias lures Domenic, who kills Link, while Harper releases Fusco and he flees. Domenic calls Finch and asks Finch to meet him, but Root tells him that The Machine will help Reese. Fusco arrives at the scene the SWAT, and Domenic and Elias are arrested. Control learns that the Samaritan has forged an email in her name and is worried about a terrorist attack on May 6th, based on the evidence she found with Grice in Columbia Heights. But Greer tells her that it is not a terrorist attack, but a loyalty test.

"YHWH" is another excellent episode of "Person of Interest", with engaging segments. It seems to be the end of Domenic, Elias and Control. She has the chance to eliminate Greer, but is surprised by his revelations, losing the opportunity. Finch and Root try to save the "DNA" of The Machine that was not prepared to fight, but only save lives. The soundtrack with Pink Floyd's Welcome to the Machine song fits perfectly to the show. Looking forward to seeing the next season of this spectacular series. My vote is ten.
